2 Samuel 14

1 Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s heart was toward Absalom.

Y conociendo Joab hijo de Sarvia, que el corazón del rey estaba por Absalón,

2 And Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel, I pray thee, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that hath a long time mourned for the dead:

envió Joab a Tecoa, y tomó de allá una mujer astuta, y le dijo: Yo te ruego que te enlutes, y te vistas de ropas de luto, y no te unjas con óleo, antes sé como mujer que ha mucho tiempo que trae luto por algún muerto;

3 and go in to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.

y entrando al rey, habla con él de esta manera. Y puso Joab las palabras en su boca.

4 And when the woman of Tekoa spake to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king.

Entró pues aquella mujer de Tecoa al rey, y postrándose en tierra sobre su rostro adoró, y dijo: Oh rey, salve.

5 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, Of a truth I am a widow, and my husband is dead.

Y el rey dijo: ¿Qué tienes? Y ella respondió: Yo a la verdad soy una mujer viuda y mi marido es muerto.

6 And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and killed him.

Y tu sierva tenía dos hijos y los dos riñeron en el campo; y no habiendo quien los separase, hirió el uno al otro, y lo mató.

7 And, behold, the whole family is risen against thy handmaid, and they say, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he slew, and so destroy the heir also. Thus will they quench my coal which is left, and will leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the face of the earth.

Y he aquí toda la parentela se ha levantado contra tu sierva, diciendo: Entrega al que mató a su hermano, para que le hagamos morir por la vida de su hermano a quien él mató, y quitemos también el heredero. Así apagarán el ascua que me ha quedado, no dejando a mi marido nombre ni reliquia sobre la tierra.

8 And the king said unto the woman, Go to thy house, and I will give charge concerning thee.

Entonces el rey dijo a la mujer: Vete a tu casa, que yo mandaré acerca de ti.

9 And the woman of Tekoa said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father’s house; and the king and his throne be guiltless.

Y la mujer de Tecoa dijo al rey: Rey señor mío, la maldad sea sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre; mas el rey y su trono sin culpa.

10 And the king said, Whosoever saith aught unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.

Y el rey dijo: Al que hablare contra tí, tráelo a mí, que no te tocará más.

11 Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember Jehovah thy God, that the avenger of blood destroy not any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As Jehovah liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.

Dijo ella entonces: Te ruego, oh rey, que te acuerdes del SEÑOR tu Dios, que no dejes a los vengadores de la sangre aumentar el daño con destruir a mi hijo. Y él respondió: Vive el SEÑOR, que no caerá ni un cabello de la cabeza de tu hijo en tierra.

12 Then the woman said, Let thy handmaid, I pray thee, speak a word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.

Y la mujer dijo: Te ruego que hable tu criada una palabra a mi señor el rey. Y él dijo: Habla.

13 And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou devised such a thing against the people of God? for in speaking this word the king is as one that is guilty, in that the king doth not fetch home again his banished one.

Entonces la mujer dijo: ¿Por qué pues piensas tú otro tanto contra el pueblo de Dios? Que hablando el rey esta palabra, es como culpado, por cuanto el rey no hace volver a su fugitivo.

14 For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God take away life, but deviseth means, that he that is banished be not an outcast from him.

Porque de cierto morimos, y somos como aguas derramadas por tierra, que no pueden volver a recogerse; ni Dios hace acepción de personas, mas busca la manera para no echar de si al desechado.

15 Now therefore seeing that I am come to speak this word unto my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: and thy handmaid said, I will now speak unto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his servant.

Y que yo he venido ahora para decir esto al rey mi señor, es porque el pueblo me ha puesto miedo. Mas tu sierva dijo en si: Hablaré ahora al rey; por ventura hará el rey la palabra de su sierva.

16 For the king will hear, to deliver his servant out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.

Pues el rey oirá, para librar a su sierva de mano del hombre que me quiere raer a mí, y a mi hijo juntamente, de la heredad de Dios.

17 Then thy handmaid said, Let, I pray thee, the word of my lord the king be comfortable; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: and Jehovah thy God be with thee.

Tu sierva pues dice: Que sea ahora la respuesta de mi señor el rey para descanso; pues que mi señor el rey es como un ángel de Dios para escuchar lo bueno y lo malo, y el SEÑOR tu Dios sea contigo.

18 Then the king answered and said unto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, aught that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak.

Entonces el rey respondió, y dijo a la mujer: Yo te ruego que no me encubras nada de lo que yo te preguntare. Y la mujer dijo: Hable mi señor el rey.

19 And the king said, Is the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from aught that my lord the king hath spoken; for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thy handmaid;

Y el rey dijo: ¿No ha sido la mano de Joab contigo en todas estas cosas? Y la mujer respondió y dijo: Por la vida de tu alma, rey señor mío, que no hay que apartarse a derecha ni a izquierda de todo lo que mi señor el rey ha hablado; porque tu siervo Joab, él me mandó, y él puso en boca de tu sierva todas estas palabras;

20 to change the face of the matter hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.

y que trocara la forma de las palabras, Joab tu siervo lo ha hecho; mas mi señor es sabio, conforme a la sabiduría de un ángel de Dios, para saber lo que se hace en la tierra.

21 And the king said unto Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man Absalom back.

Entonces el rey dijo a Joab: He aquí yo hice esto; por tanto ve, y haz volver al joven Absalón.

22 And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and did obeisance, and blessed the king; and Joab said, To-day thy servant knoweth that I have found favor in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath performed the request of his servant.

Y Joab se postró en tierra sobre su rostro, y adoró, y bendijo al rey, y dijo: Hoy ha entendido tu siervo que he hallado gracia en tus ojos, rey señor mío; pues que ha hecho el rey la palabra de su siervo.

23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

Se levantó luego Joab, y fue a Gesur, y volvió a Absalón a Jerusalén.

24 And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, but let him not see my face. So Absalom turned to his own house, and saw not the king’s face.

Mas el rey dijo: Váyase a su casa, y no vea mi rostro. Y Absalón volvió a su casa, y no vio el rostro del rey.

25 Now in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

Y no había varón en todo Israel tan hermoso como Absalón, de alabar en gran manera; desde la planta de su pie hasta la mollera no había en él defecto.

26 And when he cut the hair of his head (now it was at every year’s end that he cut it; because it was heavy on him, therefore he cut it); he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, after the king’s weight.

Y cuando se cortaba el cabello (lo cual hacía al fin de cada año, pues le causaba molestia, y por eso se lo cortaba), pesaba el cabello de su cabeza doscientos siclos de peso real.

27 And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance.

Y le nacieron a Absalón tres hijos, y una hija que se llamó Tamar, la cual era hermosa de ver.

28 And Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem; and he saw not the king’s face.

Y estuvo Absalón por espacio de dos años en Jerusalén, y no vio el rostro del rey.

29 Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king; but he would not come to him: and he sent again a second time, but he would not come.

Y mandó Absalón por Joab, para enviarlo al rey; mas no quiso venir a él; ni aunque envió por segunda vez, quiso él venir.

30 Therefore he said unto his servants, See, Joab’s field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.

Entonces dijo a sus siervos: Bien sabéis las tierras de Joab junto a mi lugar, donde tiene sus cebadas; id, y prenderles fuego; y los siervos de Absalón prendieron fuego a las tierras.

31 Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire?

Se levantó por tanto Joab, y vino a Absalón a su casa, y le dijo: ¿Por qué han puesto fuego tus siervos a mis tierras?

32 And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it were better for me to be there still. Now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be iniquity in me, let him kill me.

Y Absalón respondió a Joab: He aquí, yo he enviado por ti, diciendo que vinieses acá, a fin de enviarte yo al rey a que le dijeses: ¿Para qué vine de Gesur? Mejor me fuera estar aún allá. Vea yo ahora la cara del rey; y si hay en mí pecado, máteme.

33 So Joab came to the king, and told him; and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.

Vino, pues, Joab al rey, y se lo hizo saber. Entonces llamó a Absalón, el cual vino al rey, e inclinó su rostro a tierra delante del rey; y el rey besó a Absalón.
