Matthew 22
1 Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying,
Et reprenant la parole, Jésus leur parla derechef en paraboles, en disant:
2 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding feast for his son,
« Le royaume des cieux ressemble à un roi qui fit des noces à son fils,
3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.
et il dépêcha ses esclaves pour mander ceux qui avaient été invités aux noces, et ils ne voulaient pas venir.
4 Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding feast!”’
Il dépêcha derechef d'autres esclaves, en disant: « Dites aux invités: Voici, j'ai préparé mon festin; mes taureaux et mes bêtes grasses sont tués, et tout est prêt; venez aux noces. »
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;
Mais eux n'en ayant tenu compte s'en allèrent, qui à son champ, et qui à son négoce,
6 and the rest grabbed his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.
tandis que les autres ayant saisi les esclaves les maltraitèrent et les mirent à mort.
7 When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Mais le roi en fut irrité, et ayant expédié ses armées il fit périr ces meurtriers et brûla leur ville.
8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
Alors il dit à ses esclaves: « Les noces sont bien prêtes, mais les invités n'en étaient pas dignes;
9 Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.’
allez donc dans les carrefours des chemins, et tous ceux que vous trouverez, invitez-les aux noces. »
10 Those servants went out into the highways and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.
Et ces esclaves s'en étant allés sur les chemins réunirent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, méchants et bons, et la salle nuptiale fut remplie de convives.
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on wedding clothing,
Mais le roi étant entré pour voir les convives aperçut là un homme qui n'était pas revêtu d'un habit de noce,
12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’ He was speechless.
et il lui dit: « Camarade, comment es-tu entré ici, sans avoir un habit de noce? » Et l'autre resta bouche close.
13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’
Alors le roi dit à ses serviteurs: « Après lui avoir lié les pieds et les mains, jetez-le dans les ténèbres extérieures. » Là sera le pleur et le grincement des dents.
14 For many are called, but few chosen.”
Il y a en effet beaucoup d'appelés, mais peu d'élus. »
15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.
Alors les pharisiens s'en étant allés tinrent conseil afin de le faire tomber dans le piège par un mot,
16 They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach; for you are not partial to anyone.
et ils lui députent leurs disciples avec les Hérodiens pour lui dire: « Maître, nous savons que tu es véridique, et que tu enseignes avec vérité la voie et que tu ne fais pas acceptions de personnes, car tu ne regardes pas à l'apparence des hommes;
17 Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
dis-nous donc, que t'en semble? Est-il permis ou non de payer l'impôt à l'empereur? »
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?
Mais Jésus, connaissant leur méchanceté, dit: « Pourquoi me mettez-vous à l'épreuve? Hypocrites!
19 Show me the tax money.” They brought to him a denarius.
Montrez-moi la monnaie de l'impôt. » Et ils lui présentèrent un denier.
20 He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”
Et il leur dit: « De qui est cette effigie et cette légende? »
21 They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Ils disent: « De l'empereur. » Alors il leur dit: « Rendez donc à l'empereur ce qui est à l'empereur, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu. »
22 When they heard it, they marveled, and left him and went away.
Ce qu'ayant ouï, ils furent émerveillés, et l'ayant quitté ils s'en allèrent.
23 On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,
Ce jour-là vinrent à lui des sadducéens disant qu'il n'y a pas de résurrection, et ils l'interrogèrent
24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.’
en disant: « Maître, Moïse a dit: Si quelqu'un vient à mourir sans avoir d'enfants, son frère épousera sa femme à titre de beau-frère et il suscitera une postérité à son frère.
25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.
Or, il y avait parmi nous sept frères: et le premier, après s'être marié, mourut, et n'ayant pas de postérité il laissa sa femme à son frère;
26 In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh.
il en fut de même du second, et du troisième, et de tous les sept;
27 After them all, the woman died.
après eux tous la femme mourut.
28 In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.”
Eh bien! lors de la résurrection, duquel des sept sera-t-elle femme? Car ils l'ont tous possédée. »
29 But Jesus answered them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
Mais Jésus leur répliqua: « Vous vous égarez, parce que vous ne connaissez ni les écritures, ni la puissance de Dieu;
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like God’s angels in heaven.
car, lors de la résurrection, ni les hommes ne prennent des femmes, ni les femmes des maris, mais ils sont comme des anges dans le ciel.
31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have not you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
Or, quant à la résurrection des morts, n'avez-vous pas lu ce dont Dieu vous a parlé lorsqu'il dit:
32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, et le Dieu d'Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob? Il n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants. »
33 When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
Ce que la foule ayant ouï, elle était stupéfaite de son enseignement.
34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
Mais les pharisiens, ayant appris qu'il avait fermé la bouche aux sadducéens, se réunirent au même lieu,
35 One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.
et l'un d'entre eux, un légiste, lui demanda pour le mettre à l'épreuve:
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”
« Maître, quel est le grand commandement dans la loi? »
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
Et il lui dit: « Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, et de toute ton âme, et de toute ta pensée;
38 This is the first and great commandment.
celui-ci est le grand et le premier commandement;
39 A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
le second, semblablement: tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.
40 The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
De ces deux commandements dépend la loi tout entière, ainsi que les prophètes. »
41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,
Mais les pharisiens se trouvant réunis, Jésus leur demanda:
42 saying, “What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “Of David.”
« Que vous semble-t-il du Christ? De qui est-il fils? » Il lui disent: « De David. »
43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,
Il leur dit: « Comment donc David étant inspiré l'appelle-t-il seigneur, lorsqu'il dit:
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet’?
« le Seigneur a dit à mon seigneur: Assieds-toi à Ma droite, jusques à ce que J'aie mis tes ennemis sous tes pieds?
45 “If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”
Si donc David l'appelle seigneur, comment est-il son fils? »
46 No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forward.
Et personne ne pouvait lui répondre un mot, et dès ce jour-là nul n'osa l'interroger.
