Luke 23
1 The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.
Toute la troupe se leva et l'amena devant Pilate.
2 They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”
Ils se mirent à l'accuser, en disant: « Nous avons trouvé cet homme qui pervertit la nation, qui interdit de payer les impôts à César, et qui dit qu'il est lui-même le Christ, un roi. »
3 Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”
Pilate lui demanda: « Es-tu le roi des Juifs? » Il lui répondit: « C'est ce que tu dis. »
4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
Pilate dit aux chefs des prêtres et à la foule: « Je ne trouve aucun motif d'accusation contre cet homme. »
5 But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
Mais ils insistèrent, disant: « Il excite le peuple, enseignant dans toute la Judée, depuis la Galilée jusqu'ici. »
6 But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
Mais Pilate, ayant entendu parler de la Galilée, demanda si cet homme était Galiléen.
7 When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
Ayant appris qu'il était dans la juridiction d'Hérode, il l'envoya à Hérode, qui était aussi à Jérusalem en ce temps-là.
8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.
Lorsque Hérode vit Jésus, il eut une grande joie, car il y avait longtemps qu'il désirait le voir, ayant entendu dire beaucoup de choses sur lui. Il espérait voir quelque miracle accompli par lui.
9 He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.
Il l'interrogea avec beaucoup de mots, mais il ne répondit pas.
10 The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.
Les chefs des prêtres et les scribes, debout, l'accusaient avec véhémence.
11 Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.
Hérode et ses soldats l'humiliaient et se moquaient de lui. Après l'avoir revêtu de vêtements de luxe, ils le renvoyèrent à Pilate.
12 Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.
Ce jour-là, Hérode et Pilate se lièrent d'amitié, car ils étaient auparavant ennemis l'un de l'autre.
13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
Pilate convoqua les principaux sacrificateurs, les magistrats et le peuple,
14 and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and behold, having examined him before you, I found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.
et leur dit: Tu m'as amené cet homme comme étant un homme qui pervertit le peuple; or, après l'avoir examiné devant vous, je n'ai trouvé aucun motif d'accusation contre cet homme au sujet des choses dont tu l'accuses.
15 Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.
Hérode non plus, car je t'ai envoyé vers lui, et voici, il n'a rien fait de digne de mort.
16 I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
Je vais donc le châtier et le relâcher. »
17 Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.
Or, il devait leur relâcher un prisonnier à l'occasion de la fête.
18 But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—
Mais ils s'écrièrent tous ensemble: « Lâchez cet homme! Relâchez-nous Barabbas,
19 one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.
qui avait été jeté en prison pour une révolte dans la ville et pour un meurtre. »
20 Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,
Alors Pilate leur parla de nouveau, voulant relâcher Jésus,
21 but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
mais ils crièrent: « Crucifie! Crucifie-le! »
22 He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
Il leur dit pour la troisième fois: « Pourquoi? Quel mal a fait cet homme? Je n'ai trouvé en lui aucun crime capital. Je vais donc le châtier et le relâcher. »
23 But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
Mais ils insistaient à voix haute, demandant qu'il soit crucifié. Leurs voix et celles des principaux sacrificateurs l'emportèrent.
24 Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
Pilate décréta que ce qu'ils demandaient devait être fait.
25 He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.
Il relâcha celui qui avait été jeté en prison pour insurrection et meurtre, celui qu'ils demandaient, mais il livra Jésus à leur volonté.
26 When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it after Jesus.
Après l'avoir emmené, ils saisirent un certain Simon de Cyrène, venu du pays, et lui mirent la croix pour la porter après Jésus.
27 A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.
Une grande foule du peuple le suivait, y compris des femmes qui, elles aussi, le pleuraient et le déploraient.
28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
Mais Jésus, se tournant vers elles, dit: « Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur moi, mais pleurez sur vous-mêmes et sur vos enfants.
29 For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’
Car voici venir des jours où l'on dira: Heureuses les stériles, les entrailles qui n'ont pas enfanté, les mamelles qui n'ont pas allaité!
30 Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’
Alors ils se mettront à dire aux montagnes: « Tombez sur nous », et aux collines: « Couvrez-nous ».
31 For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”
Car s'ils font ces choses dans l'arbre vert, que fera-t-on dans l'arbre sec? ".
32 There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.
Il y en avait aussi d'autres, deux malfaiteurs, conduits avec lui pour être mis à mort.
33 When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent au lieu appelé « Crâne », ils le crucifièrent là avec les malfaiteurs, l'un à droite et l'autre à gauche.
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.
Jésus dit: « Père, pardonne-leur, car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font. » Ils se partagèrent ses vêtements en tirant au sort.
35 The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”
Le peuple était là, à regarder. Les chefs qui étaient avec eux se moquaient aussi de lui, disant: « Il a sauvé les autres. Qu'il se sauve lui-même, si c'est là le Christ de Dieu, son élu! »
36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,
Les soldats se moquaient aussi de lui, s'approchant de lui et lui offrant du vinaigre,
37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
et disant: « Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi toi-même! »
38 An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Une inscription était aussi placée au-dessus de lui en lettres grecques, latines et hébraïques: « C'EST LE ROI DES JUIFS ».
39 One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”
L'un des malfaiteurs qui avait été pendu l'insulta en disant: « Si tu es le Christ, sauve-toi toi-même et nous! ».
40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do not you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
Mais l'autre, prenant la parole, le réprimanda et dit: « Tu ne crains même pas Dieu, puisque tu es sous la même condamnation?
41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
Nous, en effet, nous sommes justes, car nous recevons la récompense de nos actes; mais cet homme n'a rien fait de mal. »
42 He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
Il dit à Jésus: « Seigneur, souviens-toi de moi quand tu viendras dans ton Royaume. »
43 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
Jésus lui dit: « Je te le dis en vérité, aujourd'hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis. »
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
Il était environ la sixième heure, et les ténèbres se répandirent sur tout le pays jusqu'à la neuvième heure.
45 The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
Le soleil s'obscurcit, et le voile du temple se déchira en deux.
46 Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.
Jésus, poussant un grand cri, dit: « Père, entre tes mains je remets mon esprit. » Ayant dit cela, il rendit le dernier soupir.
47 When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.”
Le centurion, voyant ce qui s'était passé, glorifia Dieu, en disant: « Certainement, c'était un homme juste. »
48 All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their chests.
Toute la foule qui s'était rassemblée pour voir cela, à la vue de ce qui s'était passé, s'en retourna chez elle en se frappant la poitrine.
49 All his acquaintances and the women who followed with him from Galilee stood at a distance, watching these things.
Toutes les personnes de sa connaissance et les femmes qui l'avaient suivi depuis la Galilée se tenaient à distance, observant ces choses.
50 Behold, there was a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man
Voici, il y avait un homme nommé Joseph, membre du sanhédrin, homme bon et juste
51 (he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom.
(il n'avait pas consenti à leurs conseils et à leurs actes), originaire d'Arimathée, ville des Juifs, qui attendait aussi le royaume de Dieu.
52 This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.
Cet homme se rendit auprès de Pilate, et demanda le corps de Jésus.
53 He took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.
Il le descendit, l'enveloppa dans un linceul, et le déposa dans un tombeau taillé dans la pierre, où personne n'avait jamais été mis.
54 It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.
C'était le jour de la Préparation, et le sabbat approchait.
55 The women who had come with him out of Galilee followed after, and saw the tomb and how his body was laid.
Les femmes de Galilée qui étaient venues avec lui suivirent, et virent le tombeau et la manière dont son corps avait été déposé.
56 They returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
Elles s'en retournèrent et préparèrent des aromates et des onguents. Le jour du sabbat, elles se reposèrent, selon le commandement.
