Deuteronomy 3

1 Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan. Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

そしてわれわれは身をめぐらして、バシャンの道を上って行ったが、バシャンの王オグは、われわれを迎え撃とうとして、その民をことごとく率い、出てきてエデレイで戦った。

2 The LORD said to me, “Do not fear him; for I have delivered him, with all his people and his land, into your hand. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”

時に主はわたしに言われた、『彼を恐れてはならない。わたしは彼と、そのすべての民と、その地をおまえの手に渡している。おまえはヘシボンに住んでいたアモリびとの王シホンにしたように、彼にするであろう』。

3 So the LORD our God also delivered into our hand Og, the king of Bashan, and all his people. We struck him until no one was left to him remaining.

こうしてわれわれの神、主はバシャンの王オグと、そのすべての民を、われわれの手に渡されたので、われわれはこれを撃ち殺して、ひとりをも残さなかった。

4 We took all his cities at that time. There was not a city which we did not take from them: sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

その時、われわれは彼の町々を、ことごとく取った。われわれが取らなかった町は一つもなかった。取った町は六十。アルゴブの全地方であって、バシャンにおけるオグの国である。

5 All these were cities fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, in addition to a great many villages without walls.

これらは皆、高い石がきがあり、門があり、貫の木のある堅固な町であった。このほかに石がきのない町は、非常に多かった。

6 We utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones.

われわれはヘシボンの王シホンにしたように、これらを全く滅ぼし、そのすべての町の男、女および子供をことごとく滅ぼした。

7 But all the livestock, and the plunder of the cities, we took for plunder for ourselves.

ただし、そのすべての家畜と、その町々からのぶんどり物とは、われわれが獲て自分の物とした。

8 We took the land at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, from the valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon.

その時われわれはヨルダンの向こう側にいるアモリびとのふたりの王の手から、アルノン川からヘルモン山までの地を取った。

9 (The Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir.)

（シドンびとはヘルモンをシリオンと呼び、アモリびとはこれをセニルと呼んでいる。）

10 We took all the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, to Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

すなわち高原のすべての町、ギレアデの全地、バシャンの全地、サルカおよびエデレイまで、バシャンにあるオグの国の町々をことごとく取った。

11 (For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron. Is not it in Rabbah of the children of Ammon? Nine cubits was its length, and four cubits its width, after the cubit of a man.)

（バシャンの王オグはレパイムのただひとりの生存者であった。彼の寝台は鉄の寝台であった。これは今なおアンモンびとのラバにあるではないか。これは普通のキュビト尺で、長さ九キュビト、幅四キュビトである。）

12 This land we took in possession at that time: from Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, and half the hill country of Gilead with its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites;

その時われわれは、この地を獲た。そしてわたしはアルノン川のほとりのアロエルから始まる地と、ギレアデの山地の半ばと、その町々とは、ルベンびとと、ガドびととに与えた。

13 and the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh—all the region of Argob, even all Bashan. (The same is called the land of Rephaim.

わたしはまたギレアデの残りの地と、オグの国であったバシャンの全地とは、マナセの半部族に与えた。すなわちアルゴブの全地方である。（そのバシャンの全地はレパイムの国と唱えられる。

14 Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob, to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and called them, even Bashan, after his own name, Havvoth Jair, to this day.)

マナセの子ヤイルは、アルゴブの全地方を取って、ゲシュルびとと、マアカびとの境にまで達し、自分の名にしたがって、バシャンをハボテ・ヤイルと名づけた。この名は今日にまでおよんでいる。）

15 I gave Gilead to Machir.

またわたしはマキルにはギレアデを与えた。

16 To the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even to the valley of the Arnon, the middle of the valley, and its border, even to the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

ルベンびとと、ガドびととには、ギレアデからアルノン川までを与え、その川のまん中をもって境とし、またアンモンびとの境であるヤボク川にまで達せしめた。

17 the Arabah also, and the Jordan and its border, from Chinnereth even to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah eastward.

またヨルダンを境として、キンネレテからアラバの海すなわち塩の海まで、アラバをこれに与えて、東の方ピスガのふもとに達せしめた。

18 I commanded you at that time, saying, “The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it. All of you men of valor shall pass over armed before your brothers, the children of Israel.

その時わたしはあなたがたに命じて言った、『あなたがたの神、主はこの地をあなたがたに与えて、これを獲させられるから、あなたがた勇士はみな武装して、兄弟であるイスラエルの人々に先立って、渡って行かなければならない。

19 But your wives, and your little ones, and your livestock, (I know that you have much livestock), shall live in your cities which I have given you,

ただし、あなたがたの妻と、子供と、家畜とは、わたしが与えた町々にとどまらなければならない。（わたしはあなたがたが多くの家畜を持っているのを知っている。）

20 until the LORD gives rest to your brothers, as to you, and they also possess the land which the LORD your God gives them beyond the Jordan. Then you shall each return to his own possession, which I have given you.”

主がすでにあなたがたに与えられたように、あなたがたの兄弟にも安息を与えられて、彼らもまたヨルダンの向こう側で、あなたがたの神、主が与えられる地を獲るようになったならば、あなたがたはおのおのわたしがあなたがたに与えた領地に帰ることができる』。

21 I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, “Your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings. So shall the LORD do to all the kingdoms where you go over.

その時わたしはヨシュアに命じて言った、『あなたの目はあなたがたの神、主がこのふたりの王に行われたすべてのことを見た。主はまたあなたが渡って行くもろもろの国にも、同じように行われるであろう。

22 You shall not fear them; for the LORD your God himself fights for you.”

彼らを恐れてはならない。あなたがたの神、主があなたがたのために戦われるからである』。

23 I begged GOD at that time, saying,

その時わたしは主に願って言った、

24 “Lord GOD, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or in earth that can do works like yours, and mighty acts like yours?

『主なる神よ、あなたの大いなる事と、あなたの強い手とを、たった今、しもべに示し始められました。天にも地にも、あなたのようなわざをなし、あなたのような力あるわざのできる神が、ほかにありましょうか。

25 Please let me go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that fine mountain, and Lebanon.”

どうぞ、わたしにヨルダンを渡って行かせ、その向こう側の良い地、あの良い山地、およびレバノンを見ることのできるようにしてください』。

26 But the LORD was angry with me because of you, and did not listen to me. The LORD said to me, “That is enough! Speak no more to me of this matter.

しかし主はあなたがたのゆえにわたしを怒り、わたしに聞かれなかった。そして主はわたしに言われた、『おまえはもはや足りている。この事については、重ねてわたしに言ってはならない。

27 Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and see with your eyes; for you shall not go over this Jordan.

おまえはピスガの頂に登り、目をあげて西、北、南、東を望み見よ。おまえはこのヨルダンを渡ることができないからである。

28 But commission Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.”

しかし、おまえはヨシュアに命じ、彼を励まし、彼を強くせよ。彼はこの民に先立って渡って行き、彼らにおまえの見る地を継がせるであろう』。

29 So we stayed in the valley near Beth Peor.

こうしてわれわれはベテペオルに対する谷にとどまっていた。
