Numbers 24

1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased Jehovah to bless Israel, he did not go, as at the other times, to meet with omens, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

Und Bileam sah, daß es vor den Augen Jehovahs gut war, Israel zu segnen, und er ging nicht mehr, wie einmal und das andere Mal auf Beschwörungen aus, sondern richtete sein Angesicht der Wüste zu.

2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel dwelling according to their tribes, and the Spirit of God came upon him.

Und Bileam erhob seine Augen und sah Israel, wie es nach seinen Stämmen wohnte, und der Geist Gottes war auf ihm.

3 And he took up his oracle, and said, Balaam the son of Beor says, and the man whose eye was closed says,

Und Bileam hob seinen Spruch an und sprach: So spricht Bileam, der Sohn Beors, und so spricht der Mann, dem das Auge erschlossen;

4 he says who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, and having his eyes open,

So spricht, der die Reden Gottes hört, der das Gesichte Schaddais erschaut, der niederfällt, und dem die Augen sind aufge- deckt;

5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, thy tabernacles, O Israel!

Wie gut sind deine Zelte, Jakob! deine Wohnungen, Israel!

6 As valleys they are spread forth, as gardens by the river-side, as aloes which Jehovah has planted, as cedar trees beside the waters.

Wie Bachtäler sich erstrecken, wie Gärten am Flusse, wie Sandelbäume, die Jehovah gepflanzt, wie Zedern an dem Gewässer.

7 Water shall flow from his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

Wasser wird ausströmen aus seinen Eimern; und seine Aussaat in vielen Wassern. Erhöhet über Agag wird sein König sein, und erhaben sein Reich.

8 God brings him forth out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild-ox. He shall eat up the nations his adversaries, and shall break their bones in pieces, and smite them through with his arrows.

Gott hat ihn aus Ägypten ausgeführt. Mit der Festigkeit des Einhorns ist Er bei ihm. Er verzehrt die Völkerschaften, seine Dränger und ihre Gebeine zermalmt und ihre Pfeile zerschmettert Er.

9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a lioness. Who shall rouse him up? He who blesses thee is blessed, And he who curses thee is cursed.

Er kauert sich nieder und legt sich wie der Löwe und wie der alte Löwe; wer will ihn aufscheuchen? Wer dich segnet, der ist gesegnet, und wer dich verflucht, ist verflucht.

10 And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together. And Balak said to Balaam, I called thee to curse my enemies, and, behold, thou have altogether blessed them these three times.

Und es entbrannte Balaks Zorn über Bileam, daß er die Hände zusammenschlug; und Balak sprach zu Bileam: Zu verwünschen meine Feinde hatte ich dich gerufen, und siehe, du hast sie dreimal gesegnet.

11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place. I thought to promote thee to great honor, but, lo, Jehovah has kept thee back from honor.

Und nun entweiche an deinen Ort. Ich hatte gesagt: Ich würde dich verherrlichen, und siehe, Jehovah hat dir Herrlichkeit vorenthalten.

12 And Balaam said to Balak, Did I not also speak to thy messengers that thou sent to me, saying,

Und Bileam sprach zu Balak: Redete ich nicht auch zu den Boten, die du zu mir sandtest, und sprach:

13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah, to do either good or bad of my own mind. What Jehovah speaks, that I will speak?

Gäbe mir Balak sein Haus voll Silber und Gold, so vermöchte ich doch nicht, Jehovahs Befehl zu überschreiten, Gutes oder Böses aus meinem Herzen zu tun. Was Jehovah zu mir rede, das würde ich reden.

14 And now, behold, I go to my people. Come, I will advise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.

Und nun siehe, ich gehe zu meinem Volk. Komm, ich will dich beraten, was dieses Volk in späteren Tagen deinem Volk tun wird.

15 And he took up his oracle, and said, Balaam the son of Beor says, and the man whose eye was closed says,

Und er hob an seinen Spruch und sprach: Der Spruch Bileams, des Sohnes Beors, und der Spruch des Mannes, dem das Auge erschlossen.

16 he says who hears the words of God, and knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, and having his eyes open:

Der Spruch dessen, der die Reden Gottes hört, und der da kennt die Kunde des Höchsten, der Schaddais Gesicht erschaut, der da niederfällt, und dem die Augen sind aufgedeckt.

17 I see him, but not now. I behold him, but not near. There shall come forth a star out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite through the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of tumult.

Ich sehe Ihn, aber nicht jetzt, ich betrachte Ihn, aber nicht nahe. Ein Stern wird aufgehen aus Jakob, und eine Rute steht auf aus Israel und zerschmettert die Ecken Moabs und stürzet alle Söhne Scheths danieder.

18 And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession, who were his enemies, while Israel does valiantly.

Und Edom wird ein Erbbesitz und Seir wird ein Erbbesitz Seiner Feinde, Israel aber übt Tapferkeit.

19 And out of Jacob shall come he who shall have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city.

Und Er wird beherrschen den Jakob, und zerstören den Rest aus der Stadt.

20 And he looked on Amalek, and took up his oracle, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations, but his latter end shall come to destruction.

Und er sah Amalek und hob seinen Spruch an und sprach: Der Völkerschaften Erstling ist Amalek: aber um kommt seine Nachkommenschaft.

21 And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his oracle, and said, Strong is thy dwelling-place, and thy nest is set in the rock.

Und er sah den Keniter, und hob seinen Spruch an und sprach: Fest ist dein Wohnsitz, und auf die Felsenklippe hast du dein Nest gesetzt.

22 Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.

Jedoch Kain wird zum Brande sein. Wie lange, so wird Assur dich gefangennehmen.

23 And he took up his oracle, and said, Alas, who shall live when God does this?

Und er hob an seinen Spruch und er sprach: Wehe, wer wird leben, wenn Gott es tun wird?

24 But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim, and they shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall come to destruction.

Aber Schiffe kommen aus der Kittim Ufer, und sie demütigen Aschur und demütigen Eber, aber auch er muß umkommen.

25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place, and Balak also went his way.

Und Bileam machte sich auf, und ging und kehrte zurück an seinen Ort, und auch Balak ging seines Weges.
