Matthew 5
1 And having seen the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. And when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
その群衆を見ると，彼は山に上った。彼が座ると，弟子たちがそのもとにやって来た。
2 And having opened his mouth, he taught them, saying,
彼は口を開き，彼らを教えてこう言った。
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, because the kingdom of the heavens is theirs.
「霊において貧しい人たちは幸いだ，天の王国はその人たちのものだからだ。
4 Blessed are those who mourn, because they will be comforted.
嘆き悲しむ人たちは幸いだ，その人たちは慰められるからだ。
5 Blessed are the meek, because they will inherit the earth.
柔和な人たちは幸いだ，その人たちは地を受け継ぐからだ。
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, because they will be filled.
義に飢え渇く人たちは幸いだ，その人たちは満たされるからだ。
7 Blessed are the merciful, because they will obtain mercy.
あわれみ深い人たちは幸いだ，その人たちはあわれみを受けるからだ。
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, because they will see God.
心の清い人たちは幸いだ，その人たちは神を見るからだ。
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God.
平和を造り出す人たちは幸いだ，その人たちは神の子供と呼ばれるからだ。
10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted because of righteousness, because the kingdom of the heavens is theirs.
義のために迫害されてきた人たちは幸いだ，天の王国はその人たちのものだからだ。
11 Blessed are ye when they revile you, and persecute you, and say every evil word, being deceitful against you because of me.
「人々がわたしのゆえにあなた方を非難し，迫害し，あなた方に敵対してあらゆる悪いことを偽って言うとき，あなた方は幸いだ。
12 Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, because your reward is great in the heavens, for so they persecuted the prophets before you.
喜び，かつ喜び踊りなさい。天においてあなた方の報いは大きいからだ。人々はあなた方より前の預言者たちも同じように迫害したのだ。
13 Ye are the salt material of the earth. But if the salt material becomes ineffective, by what will it be salted? It is potent for nothing further, except to be cast outside and to be trodden down by men.
「あなた方は地の塩だ。だが，塩がその風味を失うなら，何によって塩づけられるだろう。そうなると，もはや何の役にも立たず，外に投げ出されて人々の足の下で踏みつけられるだけだ。
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city setting on a hill cannot be hid,
あなた方は世の光だ。丘の上にある町は隠れることができない。
15 nor do they light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the lampstand, and it shines to all in the house.
あなた方はともし火をともすと，量りかごの下ではなく，台の上に置く。そうすれば，それは家の中にいるすべての人に輝くのだ。
16 Thus your light should shine before men, so that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in the heavens.
このように，あなた方の光を人々の前で輝かせなさい。人々があなた方の良い行ないを見て，天におられるあなた方の父に栄光をささげるためだ。
17 Think not that I came to abolish the law or the prophets. I came not to abolish, but to fulfill.
「わたしが律法や預言者たちを破棄するために来たと考えてはいけない。破棄するためではなく，達成するために来たのだ。
18 For truly I say to you, until the heaven and the earth pass away, one iota or one tittle will, no, not pass away from the law, until all things come to pass.
本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げるが，天と地が過ぎ行くまでは，律法から最も小さな文字の一つやごく小さな字画の一つも決して過ぎ行くことがなく，すべての事柄が実現するのだ。
19 Whoever therefore may relax one of these least commandments, and may teach men so, he will be called least in the kingdom of the heavens. But whoever may do and may teach them, this man will be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.
だから，これらの最も小さなおきての一つを破り，そうするようにほかの人たちに教える者は，天の王国において最も小さな者と呼ばれるだろう。だが，そのおきてを行ない，またそうするようにほかの人たちに教える者は，天の王国において大きな者と呼ばれるだろう。
20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness abounds more than of the scholars and Pharisees, ye will, no, not enter into the kingdom of the heavens.
あなた方に告げるが，あなた方の義が律法学者たちやファリサイ人たちのものにまさっていなければ，あなた方は決して天の王国に入ることはないからだ。
21 Ye have heard that it was said to them in old times, Thou shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable to the judgment.
「古代の人々に対して，『あなたは殺してはならない』，そして，『殺す者は裁きを受けるだろう』と言われたのをあなた方は聞いた。
22 But I say to you, that every man who is angry at his brother without cause will be liable to the judgment, and whoever speaks an insult to his brother will be liable to the council, and whoever says, Foolish man, will be liable to the hell of fire. (Geenna g1067)
だが，あなた方に告げるが，自分の兄弟に対して理由なく腹を立てる者はみな裁きを受ける。自分の兄弟に対して『ラカ！』と言う者は最高法院に引き渡され，『愚か者！』と言う者は燃えるゲヘナに投げ込まれる。 (Geenna g1067)
23 If therefore thou should bring thy gift to the altar, and remember there that thy brother has anything against thee,
「だから，供え物を祭壇にささげようとして，兄弟が自分に対して何か恨み事を抱いていることをそこで思い出したなら，
24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go. First be reconciled to thy brother, and then, after coming, bring thy gift.
あなたの供え物をそこ，祭壇の前に残しておいて，出かけて行きなさい。まず自分の兄弟と仲直りし，それから戻って来て，自分の供え物をささげなさい。
25 Be agreeing with thine opponent quickly, while thou are with him on the way, lest the opponent deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the subordinate, and thou will be cast into prison.
あなたを訴える者とは，あなたが彼と共にその途上にある間に，急いで和解しなさい。その告訴人があなたを裁判官に引き渡し，裁判官があなたを役人に引き渡し，あなたがろうやに投げ込まれてしまうことのないためだ。
26 Truly I say to thee, thou will, no, not come out from there, until thou have paid the last quadran.
本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。最後の小銭を払い切るまで，あなたは決してそこから出ることはないだろう。
27 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shall not commit adultery.
「『あなたは姦淫を犯してはならない』と言われたのをあなた方は聞いた。
28 But I say to you, that every man who looks on a woman to crave her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
だが，あなた方に告げるが，女を情欲を抱いて見つめる者はみな，心の中ですでにその女と姦淫を犯したのだ。
29 And if thy right eye causes thee to stumble, remove it and cast it from thee, for it is advantageous for thee that one of thy body-parts should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
もしあなたの右目があなたをつまずかせるなら，それをえぐり出して捨て去りなさい。あなたの肢体の一部が滅ぶほうが，あなたの全身がゲヘナに投げ込まれるよりは，あなたにとっては益になるのだ。 (Geenna g1067)
30 And if thy right hand causes thee to stumble, cut it off and cast it from thee, for it is advantageous for thee that one of thy body-parts should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
もしあなたの右手があなたをつまずかせるなら，それを切り取って捨て去りなさい。あなたの肢体の一部が滅ぶほうが，あなたの全身がゲヘナに投げ込まれるよりは，あなたにとっては益になるのだ。 (Geenna g1067)
31 And it was said, Whoever may divorce his wife, let him give her a divorce certificate.
「また，『自分の妻を離縁する者は，彼女に離縁状を与えるように』と言われた。
32 But I say to you, that whoever may divorce his wife apart from a matter of fornication, disposes her to commit adultery, and whoever may marry her who has been divorced commits adultery.
だが，あなた方に告げるが，淫行以外の理由で自分の妻を離縁する者は，彼女に姦淫を犯させるのであり，離縁された女と結婚する者は，姦淫を犯すのだ。
33 Again, ye have heard that it was said to them in old times, Thou shall not swear falsely, but shall render to the Lord thine oaths.
「古い時代の人々に対して，『あなたは偽りの誓いをしてはならず，主に対して自分の誓いを果たさなければならない』と言われたのをあなた方は聞いた。
34 But I say to you, not to swear at all, neither by heaven, because it is the throne of God,
だが，あなた方に告げるが，いっさい誓うな。天にかけても誓うな。それは神のみ座だからだ。
35 nor by the earth, because it is the footstool of his feet, nor by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King.
地にかけても誓うな。それは神の足台だからだ。エルサレムにかけても誓うな。それは偉大な王の都だからだ。
36 Neither shall thou swear by thy head, because thou cannot make one hair white or black.
あなたの頭にかけても誓ってはならない。あなたは髪の毛一本さえ白くも黒くもできないからだ。
37 But let your word be, Yes, yes, No, no. And anything beyond these is from evil.
そうではなく，あなた方の『はい』を『はい』に，『いいえ』を『いいえ』にならせなさい。これ以上のことは悪い者から出るのだ。
38 Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.
「『目には目，歯には歯』と言われたのをあなた方は聞いた。
39 But I say to you, not to resist what is troublesome, but whoever will strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
だが，あなた方に告げるが，悪い者に手向かうな。むしろ，あなたの右のほおを打つ者には，反対側をも向けなさい。
40 And to the man who wants to sue thee, and take away thy coat, thou shall leave him thy cloak also.
だれかがあなたを訴えて上着を取ろうとするなら，外衣をも取らせなさい。
41 And whoever will draft thee for one mile, go thou with him two.
あなたに強要して一マイル行かせようとする者とは，一緒に二マイル行きなさい。
42 Give to him who asks thee, and turn thou not away from him who wants to borrow from thee.
求める者には与えなさい。そして，借りたいと望む者には背を向けてはいけない。
43 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shall love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.
「『あなたは隣人を愛し，敵を憎まなければならない』と言われたのをあなた方は聞いた。
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
だが，あなた方に告げるが，敵を愛し，のろう者を祝福し，虐待し迫害する者たちのために祈りなさい。
45 so that ye may become sons of your Father in the heavens, because he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and makes rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
あなた方が，天におられるあなた方の父の子供となるためだ。その方は，悪い者の上にも善い者の上にもご自分の太陽を昇らせ，正しい者の上にも正しくない者の上にも雨を降らせてくださるからだ。
46 For if ye love those who love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the tax collectors the same?
自分を愛してくれる者たちを愛したからといって，あなた方に何の報いがあるだろうか。徴税人たちも同じことをしているではないか。
47 And if ye only greet your friends, what do ye extra? Do not even the tax collectors this way?
自分の友人たちだけにあいさつしたからといって，あなた方は何の優れたことをしているのか。徴税人たちも同じことをしているではないか。
48 Ye therefore shall be perfect, even as your Father in the heavens is perfect.
だから，あなた方の天の父が完全であられるように，あなた方も完全でありなさい。
