Job 35

1 Moreover Elihu answered, and said,

Elihu hob sodann wieder an und sprach:

2 What is this thou think in judgment? Who are thou that thou said, I am righteousness before the Lord?

Hälst du das Recht, nennst du das “meine Gerechtigkeit vor Gott”,

3 That thou said, What advantage will it be to thee? And, What profit shall I have more than if I had sinned?

daß du fragst, was sie dir nütze? “Was hilft mir's mehr, als wenn ich sündige?”

4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

Ich will dir Antwort geben und deinen Freunden mit dir.

5 Look to the heavens, and see. And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

Schau zum Himmel auf und sieh, blicke hinauf zu den Wolken, die hoch über dir sind.

6 If thou have sinned, what do thou effect against him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what do thou to him?

Wenn du sündigst, was kannst du ihm thun? und sind deiner Übertretungen viel, was schadest du ihm?

7 If thou be righteous, what do thou give him? Or what does he receive of thy hand?

Bist du fromm, was schenkst du ihm, oder was empfängt er aus deiner Hand?

8 Thy wickedness is a man as thou are, and thy righteousness is a son of man.

Den Mann, wie du einer bist, geht dein Frevel an, und das Menschenkind deine Frömmigkeit!

9 Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help because of the arm of the mighty.

Man schreit wohl über der Bedrückungen Menge, klagt über den Arm der Großen,

10 But none says, Where is God my maker who gives songs in the night,

doch keiner sagt: “Wo ist Gott mein Schöpfer, der Lobgesänge schenkt in der Nacht,

11 who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

der uns belehrt vor den Tieren des Feldes und vor den Vögeln unter dem Himmel und Weisheit giebt?”

12 There they cry, but none gives answer, because of the pride of evil men.

Dann schreit man denn, ohne Erhörung bei ihm zu finden, über den Übermut der Bösen.

13 Surely God will not hear an empty cry, nor will the Almighty regard it.

Nein, Nichtiges erhört Gott nicht, und der Allmächtige beachtet es nicht,

14 How much less when thou say thou do not behold him. The case is before him, and thou wait for him!

geschweige, da du sagst, du sehest ihn nicht; der Streit liege ihm vor und du harrtest sein.

15 But now, because he has not visited in his anger, nor does he greatly regard folly,

Und nun, weil sein Zorn nicht gestraft hat, soll er um die Vergehung gar nicht gewußt haben!

16 so Job opens his mouth in vanity. He multiplies words without knowledge.

Hiob aber that seinen Mund auf zu leerem Gerede; ohne Einsicht macht er viel Redens.
