Psalmen 54

1 Voor muziekbegeleiding; met harpen. Een leerdicht van David, toen de Zifieten Saül kwamen melden: “David houdt zich bij ons schuil.” O God, kom mij te hulp door uw Naam, En verschaf mij recht door uw kracht.

For the end, amongst Hymns of instruction by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Behold, is not David hid with us? Save me, O God, by your name, and judge me by your might.

2 Hoor naar mijn smeken, o God, Luister naar het gebed van mijn mond.

O God, hear my prayer; listen to the words of my mouth.

3 Want vreemden staan tegen mij op, En geweldenaars belagen mijn leven; Neen, ze houden God niet voor ogen.

For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life: they have not set God before them. (Pause)

4 Zie, God is mijn Helper; Het is de Heer, die mijn leven behoudt!

For behold! God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul.

5 Wend de rampen op mijn vijanden af, Verniel ze om wille van uw trouw.

He shall return evil to mine enemies; utterly destroy them in your truth.

6 Dan zal ik U gaarne offers brengen, En danken, o Jahweh, de goedertierenheid van uw Naam;

I will willingly sacrifice to you: I will give thanks to your name, O Lord; for [it is] good.

7 Omdat hij mij uit alle nood heeft verlost, En mijn oog zich aan mijn vijand verlustigt.

For you have delivered me out of all affliction, and mine eye has seen [my desire] upon mine enemies.
