Jesaja 52

1 Ontwaak, ontwaak! Sion, bekleed u met kracht, Jerusalem, heilige stad, trek uw feestgewaad aan; Want nooit meer treedt bij u binnen Onbesnedene of onreine!

Awake, awake, Sion; put on your strength, O Sion; and o you put on your glory, Jerusalem the holy city: there shall no more pass through you, the uncircumcised and unclean.

2 Schud het stof van u af, en sta op, Gevangene, Jerusalem; Slaak de boeien van uw hals, Gevangen dochter van Sion!

Shake off the dust and arise; sit down, Jerusalem: put off the band of your neck, captive daughter of Sion.

3 Want zó spreekt Jahweh, de Heer; Om niet zijt ge verkocht; Niet voor de prijs van zilver Zult ge worden gelost!

For thus says the Lord, You have been sold for nothing; and you shall not be ransomed with silver.

4 Want zó spreekt Jahweh, de Heer: Mijn volk trok eertijds naar Egypte, Om daar te verblijven, En Assjoer heeft het zonder reden verdrukt.

Thus says the Lord, My people went down before to Egypt to sojourn there; and were carried away forcibly to the Assyrians.

5 Maar hier, zegt Jahweh, wat heb Ik hier nog te doen? Mijn volk is er heengesleept zonder enige grond; Zijn tyrannen razen, zegt Jahweh; Dag in, dag uit wordt mijn Naam er gelasterd!

And now why are you here? Thus says the Lord, Because my people was taken for nothing, wonder you and howl. Thus says the Lord, On account of you my name is continually blasphemed amongst the Gentiles.

6 Waarachtig, mijn volk zal er mijn Naam leren kennen; Ja, op die dag zal het weten, Dat Ik het ben, die zegt: Hier ben Ik!

Therefore shall my people know my name in that day, for I am he that speaks: I am present,

7 Hoe lieflijk zijn op de bergen De voeten van den vreugdebode, Die vrede meldt, de blijmare brengt, het heil verkondigt, Tot Sion zegt: Uw God gaat heersen!

as a season of beauty upon the mountains, as the feet of one preaching glad tidings of peace, as one preaching good news: for I will publish your salvation, saying, O Sion, your God shall reign.

8 Al uw wachters verheffen hun stem En jubelen in koren; Want ze zien met hun ogen, Dat Jahweh terugkeert naar Sion.

For the voice of them that guard you is exalted, and with the voice together they shall rejoice: for eyes shall look to eyes, when the Lord shall have mercy upon Sion.

9 Juicht en jubelt in koren Puinen van Jerusalem; Want Jahweh erbarmt zich over zijn volk, En gaat Jerusalem verlossen.

Let the waste places of Jerusalem break forth [in] joy together, because the Lord has had mercy upon her, and has delivered Jerusalem.

10 Jahweh ontbloot zijn heilige arm Voor het oog aller volken; En alle grenzen der aarde aanschouwen Het heil van onzen God!

And the Lord shall reveal his holy arm in the sight of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation that [comes] from our God.

11 Terug, terug! Trekt er uit weg; Raakt niet aan wat onrein is; Trekt weg uit zijn midden, en maakt u weer rein, Die Jahweh’s vaten moet dragen!

Depart you, depart, go out from thence, and touch not the unclean thing; go you out from the midst of her; separate yourselves, you that bear the vessels of the Lord.

12 Maar trekt niet weg in wilde haast, En snelt niet als vluchteling heen: Want Jahweh gaat aan uw spits, Uw achterhoede is Israëls God!

For you shall not go forth with tumult, neither go by flight: for the Lord shall go first in advance of you; and the God of Israel shall be he that brings up your rear.

13 Zie, mijn Dienaar zal stijgen in aanzien, En worden verhoogd en verheven; Even hoog zal Hij stijgen, Als velen verslagen over Hem stonden.

Behold, my servant shall understand, and be exalted, and glorified exceedingly.

14 Nu is zijn gelaat wel onmenselijk verwrongen, En heeft zijn gestalte niets menselijks meer;

As many shall be amazed at you, so shall your face be without glory from men, and your glory [shall not be honoured] by the sons of men.

15 Maar eens zullen vele volken bij zijn aanblik ontroeren, En koningen hun mond voor Hem sluiten. Want dan zullen ze zien wat hun nooit was verkondigd, Aanschouwen wat ze nimmer nog hadden gehoord;

Thus shall many nations wonder at him; and kings shall keep their mouths shut: for they to whom no report was brought concerning him, shall see; and they who have not heard, shall consider.
