Genesis 47

1 Josef ging dus Farao berichten: Mijn vader en mijn broers zijn met hun schapen en runderen en met heel hun bezit uit het land Kanaän aangekomen, en bevinden zich in het land Gósjen.

Then came Ioseph and tolde Pharaoh, and sayde, My father, and my brethren, and their sheepe, and their cattell, and all that they haue, are come out of the land of Canaan, and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.

2 Hij had vijf van zijn broers meegenomen, en stelde ze aan Farao voor.

And Ioseph tooke part of his brethren, euen fiue men, and presented them vnto Pharaoh.

3 Farao vroeg aan zijn broers: Wat is uw beroep? Zij gaven Farao ten antwoord: Uw dienaren zijn schaapherders, van vader op zoon.

Then Pharaoh said vnto his brethren, What is your trade? And they answered Pharaoh, Thy seruants are shepheards, both we and our fathers.

4 En ze vervolgden tot Farao: We zijn gekomen, om de gastvrijheid van het land te genieten; want uw dienaars hadden geen weidegrond meer voor hun vee, daar de hongersnood het land Kanaän heeft geteisterd. Geef uw dienaren verlof, zich in het land Gósjen te vestigen.

They sayde moreouer vnto Pharaoh, For to soiourne in ye lande are we come: for thy seruants haue no pasture for their sheepe, so sore is ye famine in the lande of Canaan. Nowe therefore, we pray thee, let thy seruants dwel in the land of Goshen.

5 Toen sprak Farao tot Josef: Nu uw vader en broers tot u zijn gekomen,

Then spake Pharaoh to Ioseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come vnto thee.

6 staat het land van Egypte voor u open. Laat uw vader en broers in het beste deel van het land wonen; ze kunnen in het land Gósjen blijven. En wanneer ge weet, dat er geschikte mannen onder hen zijn, stel ze dan tot opzichters over mijn eigen veestapel aan.

The lande of Egypt is before thee: in the best place of the land make thy father and thy brethren dwel: let the dwel in the land of Goshen: and if thou knowest that there be men of actiuitie among them, make them rulers ouer my cattell.

7 Nu ging Josef zijn vader Jakob halen, en stelde ook hem aan Farao voor. Nadat Jakob Farao met een zegenwens had begroet,

Ioseph also brought Iaakob his father, and set him before Pharaoh. And Iaakob saluted Pharaoh.

8 sprak Farao tot Jakob: Hoeveel jaren telt ge reeds?

Then Pharaoh sayde vnto Iaakob, Howe olde art thou?

9 Jakob gaf Farao ten antwoord: Het getal van mijn pelgrimsjaren bedraagt honderd dertig: weinig in aantal, maar vol van verdriet zijn mijn levensjaren geweest, en zij hebben niet het getal van die mijner vaderen bereikt in de dagen van hun pelgrimstocht.

And Iaakob sayd vnto Pharaoh, The whole time of my pilgrimage is an hundreth and thirty yeeres: fewe and euill haue the dayes of my life bene, and I haue not attayned vnto the yeeres of the life of my fathers, in the dayes of their pilgrimages.

10 Toen zegende Jakob Farao, en ging van Farao heen.

And Iaakob tooke leaue of Pharaoh, and departed from the presence of Pharaoh.

11 Josef wees zijn vader en broers een woonplaats aan en gaf hun grondbezit in Egypte, en wel in de streek van Raämses, in het beste deel van het land, zoals Farao bevolen had.

And Ioseph placed his father, and his brethren, and gaue them possession in the lande of Egypt, in the best of the land, euen in the lande of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

12 En Josef voorzag zijn vader en broers van brood, en heel het gezin van zijn vader naar het getal van de kinderen.

And Ioseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his fathers houshold with bread, euen to the yong children.

13 Daar intussen de hongersnood hevig bleef woeden, was er in heel het land geen voedsel meer, en raakten Egypte en Kanaän uitgeput van honger.

Now there was no bread in all the land: for the famine was exceeding sore: so that the land of Egypt, and the land of Canaan were famished by reason of the famine.

14 Nu kreeg Josef al het geld in handen, dat in Egypte en Kanaän werd gevonden, in ruil voor het koren, dat men kocht; en al het geld stortte Josef in de schatkist van Farao.

And Ioseph gathered all the money, that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corne which they bought, and Ioseph layd vp the money in Pharaohs house.

15 Toen er in Egypte en Kanaän geen geld meer was, kwamen alle Egyptenaren naar Josef toe, en zeiden: Geef ons brood; waarom moeten wij voor uw ogen sterven, omdat er geen geld meer is.

So when money fayled in the lande of Egypt, and in the lande of Canaan, then all the Egyptians came vnto Ioseph, and sayde, Giue vs bread: for why should we dye before thee? for our money is spent.

16 Josef antwoordde: Als ge geen geld meer bezit, geeft dan uw vee, en ik geef u daarvoor brood in de plaats.

Then saide Ioseph, Bring your cattell, and I will giue you for your cattell, if your money be spent.

17 Zij brachten dus Josef hun kudden, en Josef gaf hun voedsel in ruil voor hun paarden, schapen, runderen en ezels. Dat jaar voorzag hij hen van brood in ruil voor al hun kudden.

So they brought their cattell vnto Ioseph, and Ioseph gaue them bread for the horses, and for the flockes of sheepe, and for the heards of cattel, and for the asses: so he fed them with bread for all their cattell that yeere.

18 Maar toen het jaar om was, kwamen zij ook in het volgende jaar naar hem toe, en zeiden: We behoeven het niet voor onzen heer te verbergen, dat het geld op is en de veestapel reeds in het bezit van onzen heer is gekomen; we hebben dus niets meer over voor onzen heer, dan onze eigen persoon en onze landerijen.

But when the yeere was ended, they came vnto him the next yeere, and sayd vnto him, We will not hide from my lord, that since our money is spent, and my lord hath the heards of the cattel, there is nothing left in the sight of my lorde, but our bodies and our ground.

19 Waarom zouden wij met onze landerijen voor uw ogen te gronde gaan? Koop onszelf en ons land in ruil voor brood; dan zullen wij met ons land dienstbaar zijn aan Farao. Geef ook koren, om te zaaien, dan kunnen we in leven blijven en behoeven we niet te sterven, en zal ook het land niet braak blijven liggen.

Why shall we perish in thy sight, both we, and our land? bye vs and our land for bread, and we and our land will be bonde to Pharaoh: therefore giue vs seede, that we may liue and not dye, and that the land go not to waste.

20 Nu kocht Josef al het land van Egypte voor Farao op; want de Egyptenaren moesten allen hun akkers verkopen, omdat de honger hen kwelde. Zo werd het land Farao’s eigendom.

So Ioseph bought all the lande of Egypt for Pharaoh: for the Egyptians solde euery man his ground because the famine was sore vpon the: so the land became Pharaohs.

21 Bovendien bracht hij het hele volk in lijfeigenschap van het ene eind van Egypte tot het andere.

And he remoued the people vnto the cities, from one side of Egypt euen to the other.

22 Alleen het land van de priesters kon hij niet kopen. Want de priesters hadden een vaste toelage van Farao, en leefden van wat Farao hun gaf; daarom behoefden zij hun land niet te verkopen.

Onely the lande of the Priestes bought he not: for the Priestes had an ordinarie of Pharaoh, and they did eate their ordinarie, which Pharaoh gaue them: wherefore they solde not their grounde.

23 Nu zei Josef tot het volk: Ik heb nu uw personen en akkers voor Farao gekocht, en gij hebt nu zaaikoren, om het land te bezaaien.

Then Ioseph sayd vnto the people, Behold, I haue bought you this daye, and your lande for Pharaoh: lo, here is seede for you: sowe therefore the grounde.

24 Maar nu moet ge van de opbrengst een vijfde aan Farao afstaan; vier vijfden moogt ge voor u zelf behouden, om er uw velden mee te bezaaien, er met uw gezinnen van te leven, en uw kinderen te onderhouden.

And of the encrease ye shall giue the fifth part vnto Pharaoh, and foure partes shalbe yours for the seede of the fielde, and for your meate, and for them of your housholdes, and for your children to eate.

25 Zij zeiden: Gij hebt ons het leven gered! Laat ons genade vinden in de ogen van onzen heer, en de slaven van Farao zijn.

Then they answered, Thou hast saued our liues: let vs finde grace in the sight of my Lord, and we will be Pharaohs seruants.

26 Zo maakte Josef het tot wet, die nog heden voor de akkers in Egypte geldt, dat een vijfde aan Farao moet worden opgebracht. Alleen het land van de priesters bleef uitgezonderd, omdat het niet van Farao was.

Then Ioseph made it a lawe ouer the land of Egypt vnto this day, that Pharaoh should haue the fift part, except the land of the priests only, which was not Pharaohs.

27 Zo vestigden de Israëlieten zich in Egypte, in het land Gósjen. Ze kregen daar vaste bezittingen, waren er vruchtbaar, en werden zeer talrijk.

And Israel dwelt in the lande of Egypt, in the countrey of Goshen: and they had their possessions therein, and grewe and multiplied exceedingly.

28 Jakob leefde in Egypte nog zeventien jaar, zodat de hele levensduur van Jakob honderd zeven en veertig jaren bedroeg.

Moreouer, Iaakob liued in the lande of Egypt seuenteene yeeres, so that the whole age of Iaakob was an hundreth fourtie and seuen yeere.

29 Toen de dag van zijn sterven begon te naderen, ontbood hij zijn zoon Josef, en sprak tot hem: Als ik genade gevonden heb in uw ogen, leg dan uw hand onder mijn heup als bewijs van uw liefde en trouw, dat ge mij niet in Egypte zult begraven,

Now when the time drewe neere that Israel must dye, he called his sonne Ioseph, and sayde vnto him, If I haue nowe founde grace in thy sight, put thine hand nowe vnder my thigh, and deale mercifully and truely with me: burie me not, I pray thee, in Egypt.

30 maar dat ik bij mijn vaderen zal rusten. Breng me uit Egypte over, en begraaf mij in hun graf. Hij antwoordde: Ik zal doen, wat ge zegt.

But when I shall sleepe with my fathers, thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury mee in their buryall. And he answered, I will doe as thou hast sayde.

31 Hij sprak: Zweer het mij dan! En toen hij het hem had gezworen, boog Israël zich aanbiddend neer op het hoofdeinde van zijn bed.

The he said, Sweare vnto me. And he sware vnto him. And Israel worshipped towardes the beds head.
