Salme 115

1 Ikke os, o Herre, ikke os, men dit navn, det give du ære for din Miskundheds og Trofastheds Skyld!

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, because of your mercy and your truth;

2 Hvi skal Folkene sige: "Hvor er dog deres Gud?"

lest at any time the nations should say, Where is their God?

3 Vor Gud, han er i Himlen; alt, hvad han vil, det gør han!

But our God has done in heaven and on earth, whatever he has pleased.

4 Deres Billeder er Sølv og Guld, Værk af Menneskehænder;

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of men's hands.

5 de har Mund, men taler ikke, Øjne, men ser dog ej;

They have a mouth, but they can’t speak; they have eyes, but they can’t see:

6 de har Ører, men hører ikke, Næse men lugter dog ej;

they have ears, but they can’t hear; they have noses, but they can’t smell;

7 de har Hænder, men føler ikke, Fødder, men går dog ej, deres Strube frembringer ikke en Lyd.

they have hands, but they can’t handle; they have feet, but they can’t walk: they can’t speak through their throat.

8 Som dem skal de, der lavede dem, blive, enhver, som stoler på dem!

Let those that make them become like to them, and all who trust in them.

9 Israel stoler på HERREN, han er deres Hjælp og Skjold;

The house of Israel trusts in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.

10 Arons Hus stoler på HERREN, han er deres Hjælp og Skjold;

The house of Aaron trusts in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.

11 de, som frygter HERREN, stoler på ham, han er deres Hjælp og Skjold.

They that fear the Lord trust in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.

12 HERREN kommer os i Hu, velsigner, velsigner Israels Hus, velsigner Arons Hus,

The Lord has remembered us, and blessed us: he has blessed the house of Israel, he has blessed the house of Aaron.

13 velsigner dem, der frygter HERREN, og det både små og store.

He has blessed them that fear the Lord, both small and great.

14 HERREN lader eder vokse i Tal, eder og eders Børn;

The Lord add [blessings] to you and to your children.

15 velsignet er I af HERREN, Himlens og Jordens Skaber.

Blessed are you of the Lord, who made the heaven and the earth.

16 Himlen er HERRENs Himmel, men Jorden gav han til Menneskens Børn.

The heaven of heavens [belongs] to the Lord: but he has given the earth to the sons of men.

17 De døde priser ej HERREN, ingen af dem, der steg ned i det tavse.

The dead shall not praise you, O Lord, nor any that go down to Hades.

18 Men vi, vi lover HERREN, fra nu og til evig Tid!

But we, the living, will bless the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.
