1 Jan drahému Gájovi. Milovaný příteli, ujišťuji tě o své lásce a modlím se za tebe, aby ses měl tak dobře na těle, jako se máš na duchu.
The elder To Gaius the beloved whom I myself love in truth.
Beloved, concerning all things I pray you to do well and to be in good health even as does well your soul.
3 Měl jsem velikou radost z vyprávění některých bratří, kteří se u mne zastavili a pověděli mi, že svým životem věrně následuješ pravdu.
I rejoiced for exceedingly when were coming [the] brothers and those bearing witness from you to the to truth, even as you yourself in truth are walking.
4 Nic mne nepotěší jako zpráva, že mé děti se drží Kristovy pravdy.
Greater than these things not I have (joy *NK+O) that I may hear of my children in (the *no) truth walking.
5 Milovaný příteli, konáš opravdu záslužnou a dobrou práci, že se staráš o kazatele, kteří navštěvují váš sbor.
Beloved, faithfully you are doing whatever maybe you shall do for the brothers and (for *k) (that [thing] *N+kO) strangers,
6 Všude o tvé lásce vyprávějí. Dobře děláš, že jim umožňuješ další práci, jak si Bůh přeje.
who testified of your love before [the] church, whom well you will do having set forward worthily of God.
7 Pracují přece pro Krista, a proto nepřijímají podporu od nevěřících.
On behalf for of the name they went forth nothing accepting from the (Gentile [people]. *N+kO)
8 Pro takové lidi máme mít otevřené dveře a tak napomáhat šíření pravdy.
We ourselves therefore ought (to receive *N+kO) such [men] so that fellow workers we may be in the truth.
9 Napsal jsem vašemu sboru dopis, ale Diotrefés, který chce mít mezi vámi vždycky první i poslední slovo, neuznává naši autoritu.
I have written (something *no) to the church; but the [one] loving to be first among them Diotrephes not welcomes us.
10 Až k vám přijdu, povolám ho k odpovědnosti za to, že nás ošklivě pomlouvá, nepřijímá naše posly a dokonce brání těm, kdo se jich ujímají, a vylučuje je ze sboru.
Because of this, if I shall come, I will bring to remembrance of him the works which he is doing, with words evil prating against us; and not being satisfied with these, neither himself he receives the brothers, and those purposing he forbids and from the church he casts [them] out.
11 Drahý příteli, drž se ne zlého, ale dobrého příkladu. Kdo jedná podle Boží vůle, je jeho dítě. Kdo jedná svévolně, Boha nezná.
Beloved, not do imitate what [is] evil but what [is] good. The [one] doing good of God is; the [one] (now *k) doing evil not has seen God.
12 Demétria si váží a staví se za něj sám Bůh. I my za něho ručíme a vy víte, že naše svědectví je spolehlivé.
To Demetrius witness has been given by all and by itself the truth; and we ourselves also bear witness, and (you know *N+kO) that the testimony of us true is.
13 Rád bych napsal ještě více, ale je to zbytečné,
Many things I had (to write *N+kO) (to you, *no) but not I desire with ink and pen to you (to write; *N+kO)
14 protože doufám, že se brzo uvidíme a důkladně si o všem pohovoříme. Měj se dobře. Pozdravují tě přátelé a také ty pozdravuj každého z bratří.
