申命記 4
1 「以色列人哪，現在我所教訓你們的律例典章，你們要聽從遵行，好叫你們存活，得以進入耶和華－你們列祖之上帝所賜給你們的地，承受為業。
Now, Israel, listen to the laws and the decrees that I am about to teach you, to do them; so that you may live and go in and possess the land that Yahweh, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
2 所吩咐你們的話，你們不可加添，也不可刪減，好叫你們遵守我所吩咐的，就是耶和華－你們上帝的命令。
You will not add to the words that I command you, neither will you diminish them, so that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am about to command you.
3 耶和華因巴力‧毗珥的事所行的，你們親眼看見了。凡隨從巴力‧毗珥的人，耶和華－你們的上帝都從你們中間除滅了。
Your eyes have seen what Yahweh did because of Baal Peor; for all the men who followed the Baal of Peor, Yahweh your God has destroyed them from among you.
4 惟有你們專靠耶和華－你們上帝的人，今日全都存活。
But you who clung to Yahweh your God are alive today, every one of you.
5 我照着耶和華－我上帝所吩咐的將律例典章教訓你們，使你們在所要進去得為業的地上遵行。
Look, I have taught you laws and decrees, as Yahweh my God had commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land which you are going into in order to possess it.
6 所以你們要謹守遵行；這就是你們在萬民眼前的智慧、聰明。他們聽見這一切律例，必說：『這大國的人真是有智慧，有聰明！』
Therefore keep them and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear about all these statutes and say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.'
7 哪一大國的人有神與他們相近，像耶和華－我們的上帝、在我們求告他的時候與我們相近呢？
For what other great nation is there that has a god so near to them, as Yahweh our God is whenever we call upon him?
8 又哪一大國有這樣公義的律例典章、像我今日在你們面前所陳明的這一切律法呢？
What other great nation is there that has laws and decrees so righteous as all this law that I am setting before you today?
9 「你只要謹慎，殷勤保守你的心靈，免得忘記你親眼所看見的事，又免得你一生、這事離開你的心；總要傳給你的子子孫孫。
Only pay attention and carefully guard yourself, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not leave your heart for all the days of your life. Instead, make them known to your children and your children's children.
10 你在何烈山站在耶和華－你上帝面前的那日，耶和華對我說：『你為我招聚百姓，我要叫他們聽見我的話，使他們存活在世的日子，可以學習敬畏我，又可以教訓兒女這樣行。』
On the day that you stood before Yahweh your God at Horeb, when Yahweh said to me, 'Assemble me the people, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.'
11 那時你們近前來，站在山下；山上有火焰沖天，並有昏黑、密雲、幽暗。
You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain. The mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.
12 耶和華從火焰中對你們說話，你們只聽見聲音，卻沒有看見形像。
Yahweh spoke to you out of the middle of the fire; you heard the voice with its words, but you saw no form; you only heard a voice.
13 他將所吩咐你們當守的約指示你們，就是十條誡，並將這誡寫在兩塊石版上。
He declared to you his covenant that he commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments. He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
14 那時耶和華又吩咐我將律例典章教訓你們，使你們在所要過去得為業的地上遵行。」
Yahweh commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, so that you might do them in the land that you are crossing over to take possession of.
15 「所以，你們要分外謹慎；因為耶和華在何烈山、從火中對你們說話的那日，你們沒有看見甚麼形像。
So take great heed to yourselves—for you saw no kind of form on the day that Yahweh spoke to you at Horeb out of the middle of the fire—
16 惟恐你們敗壞自己，雕刻偶像，彷彿甚麼男像女像，
that you do not corrupt yourselves and by making a carved image in the form of any figure, in the likeness of male or female,
17 或地上走獸的像，或空中飛鳥的像，
the likeness of any animal on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the heavens,
18 或地上爬物的像，或地底下水中魚的像。
the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, or the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth.
19 又恐怕你向天舉目觀看，見耶和華－你的上帝為天下萬民所擺列的日月星，就是天上的萬象，自己便被勾引敬拜事奉它。
You shall not lift your eyes up to the heavens and look at the sun, the moon, or the stars—all the host of the heavens—and be drawn away to worship them and adore them—those things of which Yahweh your God has given a share all the peoples under the whole sky.
20 耶和華將你們從埃及領出來，脫離鐵爐，要特作自己產業的子民，像今日一樣。
But Yahweh has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to him a people of his own inheritance, as you are today.
21 耶和華又因你們的緣故向我發怒，起誓必不容我過約旦河，也不容我進入耶和華－你上帝所賜你為業的那美地。
Yahweh was angry with me because of you; he swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go into that good land, the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you as an inheritance.
22 我只得死在這地，不能過約旦河；但你們必過去得那美地。
Instead, I must die in this land; I must not go over the Jordan; but you will go over and possess that good land.
23 你們要謹慎，免得忘記耶和華－你們上帝與你們所立的約，為自己雕刻偶像，就是耶和華－你上帝所禁止你做的偶像；
Pay attention to yourselves, so that you do not forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything that Yahweh your God has forbidden you to make.
24 因為耶和華－你的上帝乃是烈火，是忌邪的上帝。
For Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.
25 「你們在那地住久了，生子生孫，就雕刻偶像，彷彿甚麼形像，敗壞自己，行耶和華－你上帝眼中看為惡的事，惹他發怒。
When you beget children and children's children, and when you will have been in the land for a long time, and if you corrupt yourselves and make a carved figure in the form of anything, and do what is evil in the sight of Yahweh your God, to provoke him to anger—
26 我今日呼天喚地向你們作見證，你們必在過約旦河得為業的地上速速滅盡！你們不能在那地上長久，必盡行除滅。
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that you will soon utterly perish from off the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess; you will not prolong your days in it, but you will be completely destroyed.
27 耶和華必使你們分散在萬民中；在他所領你們到的萬國裏，你們剩下的人數稀少。
Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations, where Yahweh will lead you away.
28 在那裏，你們必事奉人手所造的神，就是用木石造成、不能看、不能聽、不能吃、不能聞的神。
There you will serve other gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, hear, eat, nor smell.
29 但你們在那裏必尋求耶和華－你的上帝。你盡心盡性尋求他的時候，就必尋見。
But from there you will seek Yahweh your God, and you will find him, when you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.
30 日後你遭遇一切患難的時候，你必歸回耶和華－你的上帝，聽從他的話。
When you are in distress, and when all these things will have come on you, in those later days you will return to Yahweh your God and listen to his voice.
31 耶和華－你上帝原是有憐憫的上帝；他總不撇下你，不滅絕你，也不忘記他起誓與你列祖所立的約。
For Yahweh your God is a merciful God; he will not fail you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers that he swore to them.
32 「你且考察在你以前的世代，自上帝造人在世以來，從天這邊到天那邊，曾有何民聽見上帝在火中說話的聲音，像你聽見還能存活呢？這樣的大事何曾有、何曾聽見呢？
Ask now about the days that are past, which were before your time, since the day that God created man on the earth, ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether there has been anything so great as this, or has anything like it ever been heard?
Did ever a people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?
34 上帝何曾從別的國中將一國的人民領出來，用試驗、神蹟、奇事、爭戰、大能的手，和伸出來的膀臂，並大可畏的事，像耶和華－你們的上帝在埃及，在你們眼前為你們所行的一切事呢？
Or has God ever attempted to go and take for himself a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, as everything that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
35 這是顯給你看，要使你知道，惟有耶和華－他是上帝，除他以外，再無別神。
To you these things were shown, so that you might know that Yahweh is God, and that there is no one else besides him.
36 他從天上使你聽見他的聲音，為要教訓你，又在地上使你看見他的烈火，並且聽見他從火中所說的話。
Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, so that he might instruct you; on earth he made you see his great fire; you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.
37 因他愛你的列祖，所以揀選他們的後裔，用大能親自領你出了埃及，
Because he loved your fathers, he chose their descendants after them, and brought you out of Egypt with his presence, with his great power;
38 要將比你強大的國民從你面前趕出，領你進去，將他們的地賜你為業，像今日一樣。
in order to drive out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land as an inheritance, as today.
39 所以，今日你要知道，也要記在心上，天上地下惟有耶和華他是上帝，除他以外，再無別神。
Know therefore today, and lay it on your heart, that Yahweh is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no one else.
40 我今日將他的律例誡命曉諭你，你要遵守，使你和你的子孫可以得福，並使你的日子在耶和華－你上帝所賜的地上得以長久。」
You will keep his statutes and his commandments that I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that Yahweh your God is giving you forever.”
41 「那時，摩西在約旦河東，向日出之地，分定三座城，
Then Moses selected three cities on the east side of the Jordan,
42 使那素無仇恨、無心殺了人的，可以逃到這三城之中的一座城，就得存活：
so that anyone might flee to one of them if he killed another person accidentally, without being his enemy previously. By fleeing to one of these cities, he might survive.
43 為呂便人分定曠野平原的比悉；為迦得人分定基列的拉末；為瑪拿西人分定巴珊的哥蘭。」
They were: Bezer in the wilderness, the plain country, for the Reubenites; Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.
44 摩西在以色列人面前所陳明的律法－
This is the law that Moses placed before the people of Israel;
45 就是摩西在以色列人出埃及後所傳給他們的法度、律例、典章；
these are the covenant decrees, laws, and other decrees that he spoke to the people of Israel when they came out of Egypt,
46 在約旦河東伯‧毗珥對面的谷中，在住希實本、亞摩利王西宏之地；這西宏是摩西和以色列人出埃及後所擊殺的。
when they were east of the Jordan, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the people of Israel had defeated when they came out of Egypt.
47 他們得了他的地，又得了巴珊王噩的地，就是兩個亞摩利王，在約旦河東向日出之地。
They took his land as a possession, and the land of Og king of Bashan—these, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan toward the east.
48 從亞嫩谷邊的亞羅珥，直到西雲山，就是黑門山。
This territory went from Aroer, on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, to Mount Sion (or Mount Hermon),
49 還有約旦河東的全亞拉巴，直到亞拉巴海，靠近毗斯迦山根。
and included all of the plain of the Jordan River valley, eastward beyond the Jordan, to the Sea of the Arabah, to the slopes of Mount Pisgah.
