< 1 Samuel 1 >

1 Ephraim mon, Ramathaim kho dawk tami buet touh ao. A min teh Elkanah, Ephraim kho e Zuph capa, Tohu capa, Elihu capa, Jeroham capa doeh.
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim, a Zuphite of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Toah, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 Ahni teh a yu kahni touh a tawn, buet touh e min teh Hannah, buet touh e teh Peninnah, Peninnah teh a ca a tawn, Hannah teh ca tawn hoeh.
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Elkanah teh ransahu BAWIPA bawk hane hoi thueng hanelah amae kho hoi Shiloh kho kumtangkuem ouk a cei. Hote kho dawk Eli e capa roi Hophni hoi Phinehas teh Bawipa e vaihma lah ao roi.
This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of the LORD, were there.
4 Thuengnae tueng a pha navah Elkanah ni a yu Peninnah hoi a canaw e ham a rei.
When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5 Hatei Hannah teh coe hane let hni touh a poe. Bawipa ni Hannah ca khe hane kâ poe hoeh ei Hannah a pahren dawk a poe.
but to Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but the LORD had shut up her womb.
6 Bawipa ni Hannah hah ca khenae a poe hoeh dawkvah, Hannah hoi kâpo hoeh e napui ni, Hannah a lungmathoe nahanelah voutsout a sak.
Her rival taunted her severely, to irritate her, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
7 Hottelah kumtangkuem, Bawipa im a cei navah, lungmathoenae a poe, a khuika teh bu hai cat laipalah Hannah teh ao.
As he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she taunted her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
8 A vâ Elkanah ni Hannah bangkongmaw bu na ca hoeh. Bangkongmaw na lung a mathoe. Capa hra touh hlak nang hanelah kahawi nahoehmaw telah atipouh.
Elkanah her husband said to her, "Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?"
9 Shiloh kho vah a canei awh hnukkhu vaihma teh BAWIPA e bawkim longkha koe a tahung navah,
So Hannah rose after eating and drinking in Shiloh, and stood before the LORD. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
10 Hannah a thaw teh, lungthin ka rek lah khuika laihoi BAWIPA koe a ratoum.
She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly.
11 Hannah ni ransahu BAWIPA, nange sannu e rucatnae na hmu teh kai na pahnim hanh. Na sannu pou na pouk lah, capa na poe pawiteh hote capa teh a hring nathung BAWIPA koe ka poe han. A sam hai ka ngaw pouh mahoeh telah lawkkamnae a sak.
She vowed a vow, and said, "LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a son, then I will set him before you as a Nazirite until the day of his death. And he will not drink wine or strong drink, and no razor will come on his head."
12 Hannah teh, BAWIPA hmalah pou a ratoum nah Eli ni apâhni a khet pouh.
It happened, as she multiplied prayers before the LORD, that Eli saw her mouth.
13 Hannah ni a lungthung hoi a ratoum. A pahni dueng a kâroe teh a lawk a thai hoeh dawkvah, yamu a parui telah Eli ni a pouk.
And she was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.
14 Nâsittouh maw na parui lahoi na o han. Misurtui hah takhoe leih telah atipouh.
So Eli said to her, "How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine from you."
15 Hannah ni nahoeh bawipa, lungmathoenae hoi kaawm e doeh. Misur thoseh, yamu thoseh ka net hoeh. BAWIPA hmalah kahringnae ka rabawk e doeh.
And Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before the LORD.
16 Na sannu tami kahawihoehe lah pouk hanh. Ka phuenang laihoi atu sittouh ka hei telah bout a dei navah,
Do not count your handmaid as a worthless woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my distress and my anguish."
17 Eli ni karoumcalah cet haw, BAWIPA koe na hei e teh, Isarel miphun e Cathut ni na poe lawiseh telah atipouh.
Then Eli answered, "Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him."
18 Hannah ni hai na sannu kai teh, na minhmai kahawi kahmawt naseh telah a dei hnukkhu, a minhmai kapan lahoi a cei teh bu a ca toe.
She said, "Let your handmaid find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way, and entered her quarters, and ate; and her facial expression wasn't sad any more.
19 Ahnimouh teh amom a thaw awh teh, BAWIPA a bawk awh teh Ramah kho amamouh im vah a pha awh. ELkanah teh a yu Hannah hoi a kâpanue roi teh BAWIPA ni Hannah teh pahnim hoeh.
They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20 Hannah ni camo a von teh atueng akuep navah ca tongpa a khe. Hete ca teh BAWIPA koe ratoum lahoi hmu e lah ao dawkvah, Samuel telah a min a phung.
It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of the LORD."
21 Elkanah hoi a imthungnaw teh BAWIPA koe kumtangkuem ouk a sak awh e thueng hanelah lawk a kam e kuep sak hanelah a cei.
The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and to redeem his vow and all the tithes of his land.
22 Hannah ni a vâ koe, camo sanu a kamphei torei doeh BAWIPA hmalah, ka ceikhai vaiteh BAWIPA koe pou ao han toe telah atipouh.
But Hannah did not go up; for she said to her husband, "Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and stay there forever."
23 A vâ Elkanah ni ahawi na tie patetlah sak lawih. Camo sanu na pâphei totouh awm lawih. BAWIPA e lawkkam mah kuep sak telah atipouh. Hatdawkvah Hannah ni a ca sanu a pânei teh sanu pâphei totouh a im vah ao.
And Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems good in your eyes. Wait until you have weaned him; only may the LORD establish what you have said." So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.
24 A ca sanu a pâphei hnukkhu kum thum touh e maitotan buet touh, tavai kawlung buet touh, misurtui um touh hoi a ca hah a ceikhai, camo a nawca rah eiteh, Shiloh e BAWIPA e im dawk a ceikhai.
And she went up with him to Shiloh with a three-year old bull, and bread, and one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the LORD in Shiloh. And the child was with them. And they went before the LORD, and his father slaughtered the sacrifice, which he did annually to the LORD. And he brought the child,
25 Maito a thei hnukkhu camo hah Eli koe a thokhai.
and he slaughtered the bull. And Hannah, the mother of the child, brought him to Eli.
26 Hannah ni oe ka bawipa nang na hring e patetlah kai teh yampa vah hete hmuen koe nang koevah, ka kangdue lahoi BAWIPA koe ouk ka ratoum e napui kai hah doeh.
She said, "Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD.
27 Hete camo ka hmu thai nahan ka ratoum teh ka hei e patetlah Bawipa ni na poe toe.
For this child I prayed; and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.
28 Hatdawkvah, kai ni BAWIPA koe ka hnawng toe a hring nathung BAWIPA koe hnawng e lah ao toe, a titeh hote hmuen koe BAWIPA hah a bawk.
Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD. As long as he lives he is lent to the LORD." He worshiped the LORD there.
