< Nehemiah 8 >

1 Pilnam pum te tui vongka hmai kah toltung ah hlang pakhat bangla tingtun uh. Te vaengah cadaek Ezra te, “Moses kah olkhueng cabu te hang khuen, te nen ni BOEIPA loh Israel a uen,” a ti uh.
All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the square that was before the Water Gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the scroll of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
2 A hla rhih kah lamhmacuek hnin vaengah tah khosoih Ezra loh olkhueng te hlangping mikhmuh ah tongpa lamloh huta ham khaw, yaak ham aka yakming boeih taengah a phoe puei.
Ezra the cohen brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.
3 Te lamkah te tui vongka hmai kah toltung imdan ah khopo lamloh khothun khovang hil a tae. Tongpa neh huta neh aka yakming rhoek kah hmai neh olkhueng cabu dongla hna aka kaeng pilnam cungkuem ham a tae pah.
And he read it before the square that was before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the scroll of the law.
4 Te vaengah cadaek Ezra te olthui vaengkah ham a dawn tlaang thing dongah pai. Anih taengah Mattithiah neh Shema, Anaiah neh Uriah, Hilkiah neh Maaseiah, a banvoei neh a bantang ah Pedaiah neh Mishael, Malkhiah neh Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zekhariah neh Meshullam pai.
Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5 Ezra loh cabu te pilnam boeih kah mikhmuh ah a ong. Pilnam boeih so la om tih cabu a ong vaengah pilnam khaw boeih pai uh.
Ezra opened the scroll in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people; ) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
6 Ezra loh boeilen Pathen BOEIPA te a uem vaengah pilnam pum loh a kut thueng neh, “Amen, Amen,” tila a doo uh. Te phoeiah a tal te diklai la a buluk uh tih BOEIPA te a bawk uh.
and Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. All the people answered, "Amen, Amen," with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
7 Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah neh amih Levi rhoek loh olkhueng te pilnam taengah a thuicaih pah. Te vaengah pilnam tah amamih paihmuen ah pai uh.
Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, the Levites, explained the law to the people, and the people stayed in their place.
8 Pathen kah olkhueng cabu lamkah te puk a tae uh tih lungmingnah khaw a paek dongah tingtunnah ham khaw a yakming uh.
They read in the scroll, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.
9 Te vaengah tongmang boei Nehemiah amah neh khosoih cadaek Ezra, pilnam ham aka thuicaih Levi rhoek loh pilnam boeih taengah, “Na Pathen BOEIPA kah khohnin cim ah he nguekcoi uh boeh, rhap uh boeh. Olkhueng ol a yaak vanbangla pilnam boeih rhap coeng,” a ti nah.
Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the cohen the scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, "This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn, nor weep." For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
10 Amih te, “Cet uh, buhtha te ca uh lamtah didip tui khaw o uh. Mamih Boeipa kah khohnin he a cim dongah maehvae te a taengah aka sikim pawt taengah thak uh. BOEIPA kah kohoenah he nangmih kah lunghim la a om dongah kothae sak uh boeh,” a ti nah.
Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved; for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
11 Aka ngam Levi rhoek long khaw pilnam boeih taengah, “Saah lah, khohnin cim ni, na kothae sak uh boeh,” a ti nah.
So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, "Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be grieved."
12 Amih taengah a thuicaih pah ol te a yakming uh coeng dongah tah pilnam pum te caak ham neh ok hamla, maehvae tael hamla, kohoenah len saii hamla cet uh.
All the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.
13 A hnin bae dongah tah pilnam pum kah a napa boeilu rhoek, khosoih rhoek neh Levi rhoek tah cadaek Ezra taengah olkhueng ol dongah lungming la om ham tingtun uh.
On the second day were gathered together the heads of fathers' households of all the people, the cohanim, and the Levites, to Ezra the scribe, even to give attention to the words of the law.
14 Te vaengah, “Israel ca he hla rhih vaengkah khotue ah dungtlungim khuiah khosa saeh,” tila BOEIPA loh Moses kut ah a uen tih olkhueng khuiah a daek te a hmuh uh.
They found written in the law, how that the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;
15 Te dongah amamih kho takuem ah a yaak sak uh tih ol a haeh uh. Jerusalem ah khaw, “Tlang la cet uh lamtah olive hnah, situi thing hnah, cuihal hnah, rhophoe hnah neh thing hnah aka bu te lo uh. A daek bangla dungtlungim saii ham om,” a ti nah.
and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, and branches of wild olive, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written."
16 Pilnam te cet tih a khuen phoeiah tah amamih ham dungtlungim te a imphu ah khaw, a vongup ah khaw, Pathen im kah vongup ah khaw, tui vongka kah toltung ah khaw, Ephraim vongka kah toltung ah khaw rhip a saii uh.
So the people went out, and brought them, and made themselves booths, everyone on the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of God's house, and in the broad place of the Water Gate, and in the broad place of the Ephraim Gate.
17 Tamna lamkah aka mael hlangping boeih long khaw dungtlungim a saii uh tih dungtlungim ah kho a sak uh. Nun capa Jeshua tue lamloh te khohnin hil Israel ca rhoek loh ana saii moenih. Te dongah kohoenah khaw muep om khungdaeng mai.
All the assembly of those who had come again out of the captivity made booths, and lived in the booths; for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.
18 Pathen kah olkhueng cabu te a hnin, hnin ah a tongcuek hnin lamloh a bawt hnin hil a tae pah. Khotue te hnin rhih a saii uh tih a hnin rhet dongah tah a khosing bangla pahong uh.
Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the scroll of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.
