And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be registered.
2 (Hae baktih milu lakhaih loe Cyrenius Syria ukkung angraeng ah oh nathuem ah sak tangsuek ah oh: )
(This registering was the first made while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)

And all went to be registered, each to his own city.
4 (Joseph loe David ih acaeng ah oh pongah, ) Kalili prae, Nazareth vangpui hoiah Judea prae thung ih Bethlehem, tiah kawk ih David vangpui ah,
And Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
5 milu cazin paek hanah, nawkta tapen tom a zu Meri hoiah caeh hoi.
to be registered with Mary who had been betrothed to him, who was with child.
6 To ah a oh hoi nathuem ah nawkta zahhaih ni to akoep.
And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days for her delivery were completed.
7 Nongpata mah calu nongpa to tapen, angvin toemhaih im kong ai boeh pongah, Anih to kahni hoiah ayaw moe, maitaw okduk thungah pasongh.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swathing-clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 To prae thung ih tuutoep kaminawk loe taw ah oh o, aqum ah angmacae ih tuu to toep o.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, and keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 Khenah, Angraeng ih van kami nihcae hma ah angdoet, Angraeng lensawkhaih mah nihcae to toeh pae: nihcae loe paroeai zit o.
And an angel of the Lord came to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were in great fear.
10 Toe van kami mah nihcae khaeah, Zii o hmah: khenah, kami boih hanah, paroeai anghoehaih kahoih tamthanglok to nangcae khaeah kang sinh.
And the angel said to them, Fear not; for lo! I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to the whole people;
11 Vaihniah David vangpui thungah pahlongkung, Kri Angraeng to tapen boeh.
for to you hath been born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, who is the Christ, the Lord.
12 Hae loe nangcae han angmathaih maeto ah om tih; kahni hoi ayaw moe, maitaw okduk thungah pasong ih nawkta to na hnu o tih, tiah a naa.
And this shall be the sign to you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swathing-clothes, [[lying]] in a manger.
13 Akra ai ah van kami loe paroeai pop van misatuh kaminawk hoi nawnto Sithaw to saphaw o,
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 kasang koek Sithaw lensawkhaih om nasoe, long nuiah angdaehhaih om nasoe, kaminawk khaeah tahmenhaih om nasoe, tiah thuih o.
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men of good will!”
15 Van kaminawk mah nihcae van ah caehtaak pacoengah, tuutoep kaminawk mah Bethlehem ah caeh o si loe, Angraeng mah aicae khaeah thuih ih, kaom han koi hae hmuen hae khen o si, tiah thuih o.
And it came to pass, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said one to another, Let us go at once to Bethlehem, and see that which hath come to pass, which the Lord hath made known to us.
16 Nihcae loe karangah caeh o, to naah Meri, Joseph hoi maitaw okduk thungah pasong ih nawkta to a hnuk o.
And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad what had been told them concerning this child.

And all who heard wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20 Nihcae khaeah thuih pae ih lok baktih toengah, a thaih o ih hmuennawk a hnuk o boih pongah, tuutoep kaminawk mah Sithaw to pakoeh o moe, saphaw o pacoengah amlaem o.
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all which they had heard and seen, as had been told them.
21 Nawkta tangzat hin aah han ih ni tazetto akoep pacoengah, anih zok thungah om ai naah van kami mah paek ih ahmin baktih toengah anih to Jesu, tiah ahmin phui o.
And when eight days were completed for him to be circumcised, his name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22 Mosi ih kaalok baktih toengah amprikcaihaih ni akoep naah loe, nihnik mah nawkta to Angraeng khae ap hanah, Jerusalem ah caeh hoi haih;
And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,
23 (Angraeng ih kaalok pongah, calu nongpa boih loe Angraeng han ciimcai ah oh, tiah tarik ih oh; )
as it is written in the law of the Lord: “Every first-born male shall be called holy to the Lord,”
24 Angraeng ih kaalok mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, angbawnhaih sak hanah pahu hnetto, to tih ai boeh loe saning kanawk im pahuu hnetto sin han oh.
and to offer a sacrifice, according to what is directed in the law of the Lord: “A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.”
25 Khenah, Simeon tiah ahmin kaom kami maeto loe Jerusalem ah oh; anih loe katoeng kami, Sithaw khae angpaek kami ah oh, Israel kaminawk Monghaih paekkung zing kami ah oh moe, Kacai Muihtla mah anih to oh thuih.
And lo! there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and he was a righteous and devout man, waiting for the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was upon him;
26 Angraeng ih Kri to na hnu ai karoek to, na dueh mak ai, tiah Kacai Muithal mah panoekhaih to paek.
and it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
27 Anih loe Muithla zaehhoihhaih rang hoiah tempul thungah caeh: kaalok atawk mah angaihaih baktih toengah anih khaeah sak pae hanah, amno hoi ampa mah nawkta Jesu to angzoh hoi haih,
And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
28 to naah Simeon mah nawkta to ban ah tapom moe, Sithaw to pakoeh pacoengah,
he took him in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Angraeng, na thuih ih lok baktih toengah, na tamna hae kamongah nang caehsak boeh:
Lord! now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word;
30 ka mik mah na pahlonghaih to hnuk boeh,
for mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

which thou hast prepared before the face of all the peoples;
32 Gentel kaminawk amtuengsak aanghaih hoi nangmah ih Israel kaminawk lensawkhaih doeh ka hnuk boeh, tiah a thuih.
a light to enlighten the gentiles, and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
33 Anih mah thuih ih nawkta kawngnawk to Joseph hoi nawkta ih amno mah thaih naah dawnrai.
And his father and his mother marveled at what was spoken concerning him.
34 Simeon mah nihnik tahamhoihaih paek pacoengah, nawkta amno Meri khaeah, Khenah, hae nawkta loe Israel prae thungah amtimh paroeai kaminawk angthawk lethaih ah oh moe, kaminawk lok angaek hanah angmathaih maeto ah oh,
And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that will be spoken against; —
35 paroeai kaminawk poekhaih palungthin to amtuengsak tih, (ue, na palung mataeng doeh sumsen hoiah na thun pae vop tih, ) tiah a naa.
yea, a sword will pierce through thine own soul, —that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
36 Asher acaeng thung ih, Phanuel canu Anna loe, tahmaa nongpata maeto ah oh: anih loe mitong parai boeh, tangla kacuem ah oh nathuem hoi kamtong saning sarihto thung sava maeto hoiah ni nawnto khosak;
And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel: of the tribe of Asher; she was of great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;
37 to pacoengah anih loe saning qui tazet, palito thung lamhmai ah oh, tempul to caehtaak ai, buhzah lawkthuihaih hoiah aqum athun Sithaw tok to a sak.
and she was a widow eighty-four years old, who never left the temple, worshipping with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 Anih loe caeh moe, Sithaw khaeah oephaih lawkthuih pacoengah, Jerusalem ah akranghaih pakrong kaminawk boih khaeah, Anih kawng to thuih pae.
And she came up at this very time, and gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all that were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
39 Angraeng ih kaalok daan baktih toengah hmuennawk boih a sak hoi pacoengah, angmah hnik ih vangpui Kalili prae, Nazareth ah amlaem hoi.
And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40 Nawkta loe poekhaih palungthin thacakhaih hoiah qoeng tahang moe, palunghahaih hoiah koi: Anih nuiah Sithaw tahmenhaih to oh.
And the child grew, and waxed strong, being filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him.
41 Anih ih amno hoi ampa loe misong loihhaih poihkung ah saning kruek Jerusalem ah caeh hoi.
Now his parents used to go yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.
42 Nawkta saning hatlai hnetto phak naah loe, sakzong ih atawk baktiah sak ih loihhaih poihkung ah Jerusalem ah caeh o tahang.
And when he was twelve years old, and they went up, after the custom of the feast,
43 Poih ni boeng pacoengah, amno hoi ampa loe amlaem hoi boeh, nawkta Jesu loe Jerusalem ah oh vop; to tiah kaom to Joseph hoi amno mah panoek ai:
and had completed the days, on their returning, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and his parents did not know it,
44 nawkta loe angmah ih ampuinawk hoi nawnto ahloi boeh mue, tiah a poek hoi, nihnik loe ni to loklam caeh hoi boeh; to naah nihnik mah nawkta to angmacae nawkamya hoi ampuinawk salakah pakrong hoi.
but, supposing him to be in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance;
45 Anih to hnu hoi ai naah loe, anih pakrong hanah, Jerusalem ah amlaem hoi let.
and not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of him.
46 Ni thumto pacoengah anih to tempul thungah a hnuk hoi, anih loe patuk kaminawk salakah anghnut moe, nihcae patukhaihnawk to tahngaih, loknawk to a dueng.
And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47 Anih thaikophaih hoi lok pathimhaih thaih kaminawk boih dawnrai o.
And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and his answers.
48 Amno hoi ampa mah hnuk naah dawnrai hoi: amno mah, Ka capa, tipongah hae tiah na oh loe? Khenah, nam pa kaihnik loe tasoeh takuenhaih hoiah bae kang pakrong hoi, tiah a naa.
And when they saw him, they were amazed; and his mother said to him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have been seeking thee in much distress.
49 Anih mah nihnik khaeah, Tih hanah nang pakrong hoi loe? Kam Pa ih im ah om tih, tito na panoek hoi ai maw? tiah a naa.
And he said to them, Why is it that ye have been seeking me? Did ye not know that I must be about my Father's business?
50 Anih mah nihnik khaeah thuih ih lok to panoek hoi thai ai.
And they understood not what he spoke to them.
51 Anih loe nihnik hoi nawnto Nazareth vangpui ah caeh tathuk, nihnik ih lok to tahngaih: toe amno loe hae tiah thuih ih loknawk to palung thungah pakuem boih.
And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.
52 Jesu loe palunghahaih hoiah a takpum to qoeng tahang moe, Sithaw hoi kami mikcuk naakrak ah khosak.
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
