1 Israel kaminawk boih mah Mizpah vangpui ah, Kami boih mah angmacae ih canu to Benjamin kaminawk han paek o hmah, tiah lokkam o.
Now the men of Israel had taken an oath in Mizpah, saying, Not one of us will give his daughter as a wife to Benjamin.
2 Kaminawk loe Angraeng im ah caeh o moe, duembang khoek to Sithaw hmaa ah oh o;
And the people came to Beth-el, waiting there till evening before God, and gave themselves up to bitter weeping.
3 nihcae mah, Aw Israel Angraeng Sithaw, tipongah maw hae hmuen hae Israel kaminawk khaeah oh? Tipongah maw Israel acaengnawk thung hoiah acaeng maeto anghmaat ving hanah hmuen to oh? tiah hang o moe, a qah o.
And they said, O Lord, the God of Israel, why has this fate come on Israel, that today one tribe has been cut off from Israel?
4 Kaminawk loe khawnbang khawnthaw ah angthawk o moe, to ah hmaicam maeto sak o; hmai angbawnhaih hoi angdaeh angbawnhaih to a sak o.
Then on the day after, the people got up early and made an altar there, offering burned offerings and peace-offerings.
5 To naah Israel kaminawk mah, Angraeng hmaa ah amkhueng hanah Israel acaengnawk thung hoiah angzo ai kami mi maw kaom? tiah a thuih o. Mi kawbaktih doeh Angraeng hmaa ah amkhueng hanah Mizpah vangpui ah angzo ai kami loe, paduek han oh, tiah a thuih o.
And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel, who did not come up to the Lord at the meeting of all Israel? For they had taken a great oath that whoever did not come up to Mizpah to the Lord was to be put to death.
6 Vaihiah Israel kami thung hoiah acaeng maeto pathok ving ah oh boeh, tiah angmacae ih nawkamya ah kaom Benjamin kaminawk pongah dawnpakhuemhaih a tawnh o.
And the children of Israel were moved with pity for Benjamin their brother, saying, Today one tribe has been cut off from Israel.
7 Aicae mah Angraeng hmaa ah aicae ih canu to nihcae han zu ah paek hmah si, tiah lok a kam o boeh pongah, katang kanghmat nihcae hanah zu kawbangmaw a lak pae o han? tiah a thuih o.
What are we to do about wives for those who are still living? For we have taken an oath by the Lord that we will not give them our daughters for wives.
8 Angraeng hmaa ah amkhueng hanah, Mizpah vangpui ah angzo ai Israel acaeng mi maw kaom? tiah a thuih o; to naah Gilead prae Jabesh vangpui ih kami mi doeh amkhuenghaih ahmuen ah angzo o ai, tiah panoek o.
And they said, Which one of the tribes of Israel did not come up to Mizpah to the Lord? And it was seen that no one had come from Jabesh-gilead to the meeting.
9 Kaminawk to pakoep o naah, Gilead prae Jabesh vangpui ih kami maeto doeh om ai.
For when the people were numbered, not one man of the people of Jabesh-gilead was present.
10 To pongah misatuh kop kami sang hatlai hnetto Gilead Jabesh vangpui ah patoeh o moe, to ah kaom nongpa doeh, nongpata hoi nawkta doeh, sumsen hoi hum boih hanah lokpaek o.
So they (the meeting) sent twelve thousand of the best fighting-men, and gave them orders, saying, Go and put the people of Jabesh-gilead to the sword without mercy, with their women and their little ones.
11 Nongpa hoi kacuem ai ah khosah nongpata to hum o boih ah, hae loe na sak o han ih tok ni, tiah a naa o.
And this is what you are to do: every male, and every woman who has had sex relations with a man, you are to put to the curse, but you are to keep safe the virgins. And they did so.
12 Gilead prae Jabesh vangpui ah kaom kaminawk thungah nongpa hoi nawnto iip vai ai tangla kacuem cumvai palito a hnuk o; nihcae to Kanaan prae Shiloh vangpui ataihaih ahmuen ah a hoih o.
Now there were among the people of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins who had never had sex relations with a man; these they took to their tents in Shiloh in the land of Canaan.
13 To ah amkhueng kaminawk mah Rimmon thlung ohhaih ahmuen ah kaom Benjamin kaminawk to kawk hanah, kaminawk to patoeh o.
And all the meeting sent to the men of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, offering them peace.
14 To nathuem hoiah Benjamin kaminawk loe amlaem o let moe, Gilead prae Jabesh vangpui hoi pahlong o ih nongpatanawk to zu ah a paek o; toe nongpatanawk loe nihcae boih han khawt ai.
Then Benjamin came back; and they gave them the women whom they had kept from death among the women of Jabesh-gilead: but still there were not enough for them.
15 Angraeng mah Israel acaeng thung hoiah anghmatsak boeh pongah, kaminawk loe Benjamin kaminawk nuiah dawnpakhuemhaih tawnh o.
And the people were moved with pity for Benjamin, because the Lord had let his wrath loose on the tribes of Israel.
16 Amkhueng kacoehtanawk mah, Benjamin nongpatanawk to hum o boih boeh pongah, kanghmat nongpanawk hanah kawbangah maw zu a lak pae o han?
Then the responsible men of the meeting said, What are we to do about wives for the rest of them, seeing that the women of Benjamin are dead?
17 Nihcae mah, Israel acaeng thung hoiah acaeng anghmat ving han ai ah, kanghmat Benjamin kaminawk mah qawktoep o hanah, caa a sak o han oh.
And they said, How is the rest of Benjamin to be given offspring so that one tribe of Israel may not be put out of existence,
18 Toe Benjamin acaeng hanah a canu paek kami loe, khosak sethaih om nasoe, tiah Israel kaminawk mah lokkam o boeh pongah, aicae ih canunawk to nihcae han paek thai ai boeh.
Seeing that we may not give them our daughters as wives? For the children of Israel had taken an oath, saying, Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.
19 Toe khenah, Bethel aluek bang, Bethel hoi Shekem caehhaih loklam ni angyae bang hoi Lebonah aloih bangah kaom, Shiloh vangpui ah saning kruek Angraeng khaeah sak ih poih to oh, tiah a thuih o.
And they said, See, every year there is a feast of the Lord in Shiloh, which is to the north of Beth-el, on the east side of the highway which goes up from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.
20 To pongah nihcae mah Benjamin kaminawk to kawk o moe, Caeh oh loe, misur takha thungah anghawk oh;
And they said to the men of Benjamin, Go into the vine-gardens, waiting there secretly,
21 khenah, Shiloh ih tanglanawk hnawh han angzoh o naah, misur takha thung hoiah tacawt oh, Shiloh vangpui ih nongpatanawk to nangmacae han zu ah naeh oh loe, Benjamin prae ah caeh o haih ah.
And watching; and if the daughters of Shiloh come out to take part in the dances, then come from the vine-gardens and take a wife for every one of you from among the daughters of Shiloh, and go back to the land of Benjamin.
22 Ampa hoi a thangqoinawk mah kaicae khaeah na thui o nahaeloe, nihcae khaeah, Nihcae nuiah tahmenhaih tawn oh; misatuk nathung nihcae zu hanah nongpata maeto doeh a pathlung pae o ai boeh; nangcae mah nihcae ih zu ah oh hanah na canunawk to na paek o ai, to pongah lokkam ih baktiah zaehaih na tawn o mak ai, tiah ka thuih pae o han, tiah a naa o.
And when their fathers or their brothers come and make trouble, you are to say to them, Give them to us as an act of grace; for we did not take them as wives for ourselves in war; and if you yourselves had given them to us you would have been responsible for the broken oath.
23 A thuih pae o ih lok baktih toengah, Benjamin kaminawk mah sak o; kami boih mah kahnawh tanglanawk to angmacae zu hanah naeh o moe, angmacae qawktoephaih prae ah caeh o haih; kamro vangpui to pathoep o moe, to ah khosak o let.
So the men of Benjamin did this, and got wives for themselves for every one of their number, taking them away by force from the dance; then they went back to their heritage, building up their towns and living in them.
24 To naah Israel kaminawk loe to ahmuen hoiah tacawt o moe, angmacae acaeng kaminawk hoi angmacae qawktoephaih ahmuen ah amlaem o boih.
Then the children of Israel went away from there, every man to his tribe and his family, every man went back to his heritage.
25 To nathuem ah Israel kaminawk loe siangpahrang tawn o ai vop; kami boih mah angmacae mikhnukah hoih, tiah a poek o ih baktih toengah hmuen to a sak o.
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did what seemed right to him.
