< 1 Samuel 2 >

1 To naah Hannah mah, Angraeng ah palung kang hoe; Angraeng mah kai ih takii to sangsak; na pahlonghaih ah kang hoe pongah, ka misanawk khaeah amoekhaih hoiah lok ka paeh boeh.
Hannah prayed, and said, “My heart exults in the LORD! My horn is exalted in the LORD. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.
2 Angraeng baktiah ciimcai kami maeto doeh om ai; nang ai ah loe kalah Sithaw om ai; aicae Sithaw baktiah abuephaih lungsong mi doeh om ai.
There is no one as holy as the LORD, for there is no one besides you, nor is there any rock like our God.
3 Amoekhaih lokthui hmah, pakha thung hoiah amoekhaih lok tacawtsak hmah nasoe; Angraeng loe hmuen boih panoek Sithaw ah oh, a sak o ih hmuennawk to anih mah khingh.
“Don’t keep talking so exceedingly proudly. Don’t let arrogance come out of your mouth, for the LORD is a God of knowledge. By him actions are weighed.
4 Thacak kaminawk ih kalii loe angkhaeh boih boeh moe, amthaek kaminawk to thacakhaih hoiah oh o lat boeh.
“The bows of the mighty men are broken. Those who stumbled are armed with strength.
5 Zok kamhah ah buh caa kaminawk loe caaknaek hak hanah minawk khaeah toksak o moe, zok amthlam kaminawk zok amhah o lat boeh; caa kaak kaminawk loe caa sarihto sak o moe, kapop ah caa sah nongpata to thazok lat boeh.
Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread. Those who were hungry are satisfied. Yes, the barren has borne seven. She who has many children languishes.
6 Angraeng nang loe kami to paduek thaih moe hinghaih doeh paek thaih, taprong thungah caehsak thaih moe, pathawk thaih. (Sheol h7585)
“The LORD kills and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol and brings up. (Sheol h7585)
7 Angraeng mah amtanghaih hoi angraenghaih to ohsak moe, ahnaemhaih hoi sanghaih doeh ohsak.
The LORD makes poor and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.
8 Angraeng capanawk salakah anghnutsak moe, lensawkhaih angraeng tangkhang toepsak hanah, anih mah amtang kami to maiphu thung hoiah pathawk moe, caaknaek tawn ai kaminawk to maiphu thung hoiah pathawk; long ih homhnawk loe Angraeng ih ni; to homhnawk nuiah long to a suek.
He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill to make them sit with princes and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s. He has set the world on them.
9 Anih mah ciimcai angmah kaminawk ih khok to khen pae tih, kasae kaminawk loe khoving thungah anghmaa angtaa o tih; mi mah doeh thacakhaih hoiah pazawk thai mak ai.
He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked will be put to silence in darkness; for no man will prevail by strength.
10 Angraeng ih misanawk loe koi o phaeng tih; nihcae to van bang hoiah khopazih thuih ueloe, long boenghaih khoek to Angraeng mah lokcaek tih; angmah ih siangpahrang khaeah thacakhaih to paek ueloe, angmah situi bawh kami ih takii to sawksak tih, tiah lawkthuih.
Those who strive with the LORD shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. “The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.”
11 To pacoengah Elkanah loe im ah Ramah vangpui ah amlaem; toe a caa nawkta loe Eli khaeah Angraeng ih tok to sak.
Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. The child served the LORD before Eli the priest.
12 Eli capa hnik loe kahoih ai kami ah oh hoi; Angraeng to panoek hoi ai.
Now the sons of Eli were wicked men. They didn’t know the LORD.
13 Kaminawk hoi nawnto oh naah qaima mah sak han koi hmuen loe hae tiah oh; angbawnhaih moi to thongh li naah, qaima ih tamna maeto angzo tih, anih loe aha thumto kaom moi thunhaih racah to sin tih,
The custom of the priests with the people was that when anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant came while the meat was boiling, with a fork of three teeth in his hand;
14 anih mah camphaek laom, to tih ai boeh loe tahmawh kaom laom, to tih ai boeh loe laom kangphaek, to tih ai boeh loe laom kangbuet thung ih moi to quh tathuk ueloe, racah kamsum aha mah thunh ih moi to qaima angmah ih taham ah la tih; to pongah Shiloh ah angzo Israel kaminawk boih hanah to tiah sak pae o.
and he stabbed it into the pan, or kettle, or cauldron, or pot. The priest took all that the fork brought up for himself. They did this to all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.
15 Toe athawk hmai pakhaem ai naah, qaima ih tamna to angzoh moe, angbawnhaih moi bop kami khaeah, Haek hanah qaima ih taham moi to paek ah; anih loe thongh tangcae moi to koeh ai; kahaeng moi ni a koeh, tiah a naa.
Yes, before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man who sacrificed, “Give meat to roast for the priest; for he will not accept boiled meat from you, but raw.”
16 To kami mah anih khaeah, Moithawk hae hmai ka pakhaem han vop, to pacoengah na koeh zetto moi to la ah, tiah a naa. Toe anih mah, To tih na ai ni, vaihi roe na paek ah; nang paek ai nahaeloe, tha hoiah kang lomh han, tiah a naa.
If the man said to him, “Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as your soul desires;” then he would say, “No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force.”
17 Angraeng khae paek ih hmuen to panuet thok ah a sak hoi pongah, thendoeng hnik loe Angraeng hmaa ah kalen parai zaehaih to a sak hoi.
The sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for the men despised the LORD’s offering.
18 Toe Samuel loe puu ngan khukbuen to angkhuk moe, Angraeng hmaa ah toksak.
But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, clothed with a linen ephod.
19 Saning kruek amno mah anih hanah kahni tetta sak pae moe, angbawnhaih sak hanah saning kruek a sava hoi nawnto caeh hoi tahang naah, anih hanah a sinh pae hoi.
Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20 Eli mah Elkanah hoi a zu to tahamhoihaih paek; Angraeng khaeah lawkthuihaih hoi hnik ih capa to, Angraeng angmah khaeah na paek hoi let pongah, Angraeng mah hae nongpata hanah caa kapop ah sahsak nasoe, tiah a naa. To pacoengah nihnik loe angmah hnik im ah amlaem hoi.
Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, “May the LORD give you offspring from this woman for the petition which was asked of the LORD.” Then they went to their own home.
21 Angraeng mah Hannah khaeah tahmenhaih amtuengsak pongah, nawkta to sak hoi let moe, capa thumto hoi canu hnetto tawnh hoi let. To pongah nawkta Samuel loe Angraeng hmaa ah qoeng tahang aep aep.
The LORD visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. The child Samuel grew before the LORD.
22 Eli loe paroeai mitong boeh, to naah a caa hnik mah Israel kaminawk nuiah sak hoi ih hmuennawk hoi amkhuenghaih kahni im toepkung nongpatanawk to iih hoi haih ti, tiah thuih o ih hmuen kawngnawk boih to a thaih.
Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how that they slept with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
23 To pongah anih mah a caa hnik khaeah, Tipongah hae baktih hmuennawk hae na sak hoi loe? Na sak hoi ih kahoih ai hae baktih hmuen kawng hae minawk khae hoiah ka thaih.
He said to them, “Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all these people.
24 Ka caa hnik, to tiah na ai ni; ka thaih ih tamthang loe hoih ai; Angraeng ih kaminawk na zae hoi sak boeh.
No, my sons; for it is not a good report that I hear! You make the LORD’s people disobey.
25 Kami maeto mah kalah kami maeto nuiah zaehaih sah nahaeloe, lokcaekkung mah lok to takroek pae tih; toe kami mah Sithaw hmaa ah zaehaih sah nahaeloe, mi mah maw anih hanah tahmenhaih hni pae tih? tiah a naa. Toe nihnik paduek hanah Sithaw mah lokkhaeh tangcae boeh pongah, nihnik mah ampa ih lok to tahngai pae hoi ai.
If one man sins against another, God will judge him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?” Notwithstanding, they didn’t listen to the voice of their father, because the LORD intended to kill them.
26 Nawkta Samuel loe qoeng tahang aep aep moe, Sithaw hoi kaminawk mikcuk naakrak ah khosak.
The child Samuel grew on, and increased in favor both with the LORD and also with men.
27 To pacoengah Sithaw kami maeto Eli im ah angzoh moe, anih khaeah, Izip prae Faro imthung ah a oh o naah, kaimah roe nam pa imthung takoh nuiah kamtueng thuih na ai maw? tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
A man of God came to Eli and said to him, “The LORD says, ‘Did I reveal myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house?
28 Nam pa loe ka hmaicam ah angbawnhaih, hmuihoih hmai thlaekhaih hoi ka hmaa ah puu ngan kahni to angkhuk moe, ka tok sak hanah, Israel acaengnawk thung hoiah kaimah ih qaima ah ka qoih na ai maw?
Didn’t I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Didn’t I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?
29 Tipongah ka ohhaih im ah sak ih angbawnhaih hoi tathlang ih hmuen to khok hoiah na pathuih loe? Na thawk hanah Israel kaminawk mah paek o ih kahoih koek hmuen hoiah kang pacah na ai maw, tikhoe kai pongah na caa hnik to na pakoeh kue loe? tiah a naa.
Why do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?’
30 To pongah na imthung hoi nam pa imthung takoh loe, ka hmaa ah dungzan khoek to toksah poe tih, tiah lok ka thuih, tiah Israel Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih. Toe vaihi loe Angraeng mah, Kai hoiah angthla lai nasoe; kai pakoeh kaminawk to ka pakoeh han, kai patoek kaminawk loe azathaih tong o tih.
“Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father should walk before me forever.’ But now the LORD says, ‘Far be it from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me will be cursed.
31 Khenah, na ban hoi nampa imthung takoh ih ban ka takroekhaih atue to pha tih; na imthung takoh ah saningcoeh mitong om mak ai boeh.
Behold, the days come that I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father’s house, that there will not be an old man in your house.
32 Sithaw mah Israel kaminawk khaeah kahoih hmuen to paek, toe ka ohhaih ahmuen ah misa to na hnu tih; natuek naah doeh na imthung takoh ah saningcoeh mitong om mak ai boeh.
You will see the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which I will give Israel. There shall not be an old man in your house forever.
33 Apet ai ah ka hmaicam ah ka suek ih nangmah ih acaeng mah, na mik to amrosak ueloe, palung na saesak tih; na imthung takohnawk boih apawk baktiah ampha li naah, dueh o tih.
The man of yours whom I don’t cut off from my altar will consume your eyes and grieve your heart. All the increase of your house will die in the flower of their age.
34 Na capa hnik, Hophni hoi Phinehas loe, nang ih angmathaih ah om hoi tih; nihnik loe nito thungah dueh hoi hmaek tih.
This will be the sign to you that will come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they will both die.
35 Kaimah hanah oepthok qaima maeto ka suek han, palung thungah ka poek ih hmuen baktih toengah anih mah sah tih; anih hanah kacak im to ka sak pae han, anih loe situi ka bawh ih kami hmaa ah dungzan khoek to toksah tih.
I will raise up a faithful priest for myself who will do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house. He will walk before my anointed forever.
36 Kanghmat na imthung takoh kaminawk mah, anih khaeah caeh o ueloe, anih hmaa ah akuephaih hoiah phoisa zetta hoi takaw kae tetta to hni o tih, to pacoengah Buh ka caak thai hanah, qaima toksakhaih ahmuen ah tok na sahsak ah, tiah hni o tih, tiah a thuih, tiah a naa.
It will happen that everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and will say, “Please put me into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”
