1 ১ পরে দায়ূদ মনে মনে ভাবলেন, “কোনো একদিন এই শৌলের হাতেই আমাকে মারা পড়তে হবে, তাই পলেষ্টীয়দের দেশে পালিয়ে যাওয়াই আমার পক্ষে সবচেয়ে ভাল হবে। তাহলে ইস্রায়েল দেশের মধ্যে তিনি আর আমাকে খুঁজে বেড়াবেন না, আর আমিও তাঁর হাত থেকে রক্ষা পাব।”

And Dauid seide in his herte, Sumtyme Y schal falle in o dai in the hond of Saul; whether it is not betere, that Y fle, and be sauyd in the lond of Filisteis, that Saul dispeire, and cesse to seke me in alle the endis of Israel; therfor fle we hise hondis.

2 ২ এই ভেবে দায়ূদ তাঁর সঙ্গের ছয়শো লোক নিয়ে সেই জায়গা ছেড়ে মায়োকের ছেলে আখীশের কাছে গেলেন। আখীশ গাতের রাজা ছিলেন।

And Dauid roos, and yede, he and sixe hundrid men with hym, to Achis, the sone of Maoth, kyng of Geth.

3 ৩ দায়ূদ ও তাঁর লোকেরা গাতে আখীশের কাছে বাস করতে লাগলেন। তাঁর লোকদের প্রত্যেকের সঙ্গে ছিল তাদের পরিবার, আর দায়ূদের সঙ্গে ছিলেন তাঁর দুই স্ত্রী, যিষ্রীয়েল গ্রামের অহীনোয়ম এবং কর্মিল গ্রামের অবীগল। অবীগল ছিলেন নাবলের বিধবা স্ত্রী।

And Dauid dwellide with Achis in Geth, he, and hise men, and his hows; Dauid, and hise twei wyues, Achynoem of Jezrael, and Abigail, the wijf of Nabal of Carmele.

4 ৪ শৌল যখন জানতে পারলেন যে, দায়ূদ গাতে পালিয়ে গেছেন তখন তিনি তাঁর খোঁজ করা বন্ধ করে দিলেন।

And it was teld to Saul, that Dauid fledde in to Geth; and he addide no more `that he schulde seke Dauid.

5 ৫ পরে দায়ূদ আখীশকে বললেন, “আপনি যদি আমার উপর সন্তুষ্ট হয়ে থাকেন তবে এই দেশের কোন একটা গ্রামে আমাকে কিছু জায়গা দিন যাতে আমি সেখানে গিয়ে বাস করতে পারি। আপনার এই দাস কেন আপনার সঙ্গে রাজধানীতে বাস করবে?”

Forsothe Dauid seide to Achis, If Y haue founden grace in thin iyen, a place be youun to me in oon of the citees of this cuntrey, that Y dwelle there; for whi dwellith thi seruaunt in the citee of the kyng with thee?

6 ৬ তখন আখীশ সিক্লগ শহরটা দায়ূদকে দান করলেন। সেইজন্য আজও সিক্লগ যিহূদার রাজাদের অধিকারে আছে।

Therfor Achis yaf to hym Sichelech in that dai, for which cause Sichelech was maad in to the possessioun of the kyngis of Juda `til in to this dai.

7 ৭ দায়ূদ পলেষ্টীয়দের দেশে এক বছর চার মাস ছিলেন।

Forsothe the noumbre of daies, in whiche Dauid dwellide in the cuntrei of Filisteis, was of foure monethis.

8 ৮ সেই দিনের মধ্যে তিনি তাঁর লোকদের নিয়ে গশূরীয়, গির্ষীয় ও অমালেকীয়দের দেশে লুট পাট করতে গিয়েছিলেন। এই সব জাতির লোকেরা অনেক কাল আগে শূর থেকে মিশর পর্যন্ত সমস্ত এলাকাটায় বাস করত।

And Dauid stiede, and hise men, and token preies of Gethsuri, and of Gethri, and of men of Amalech; for these townes weren enhabitid bi eld tyme in the lond, to men goynge to Sur, `til to the lond of Egipt.

9 ৯ দায়ূদ যখন কোন এলাকা আক্রমণ করতেন তখন সেখানকার স্ত্রী-পুরুষ সবাইকে মেরে ফেলতেন এবং তাদের ভেড়া, গরু, গাধা, উট, আর কাপড়-চোপড় নিয়ে আসতেন। যখন তিনি আখীশের কাছে ফিরে আসতেন

And Dauid smoot al the lond of hem, and lefte not man `lyuynge and womman; and he took scheep, and oxun, and assis, and camels, and clothis, and turnede ayen, and cam to Achis.

10 ১০ তখন আখীশ জিজ্ঞাসা করতেন, “আজ কোথায় লুটপাট করতে গিয়েছিলে?” উত্তরে দায়ূদ বলতেন যে, তিনি যিহূদার দক্ষিণাঞ্চলে কিম্বা যিরহমেলীয়দের দক্ষিণাঞ্চলে কিম্বা কেনীয়দের দক্ষিণাঞ্চলে গিয়েছিলেন।

Sotheli Achis seide to hym, `In to whom `hurliden ye to dai? Dauid answeride, Ayens the south of Juda, and ayens the south of Hiramel, and ayens the south of Ceney.

11 ১১ কিন্তু দায়ূদ কোন স্ত্রীলোক কিম্বা পুরুষকে গাতে নিয়ে আসবার জন্য বাঁচিয়ে রাখতেন না, কারণ তিনি মনে করতেন, তারা তাদের বিষয় সব কথা জানিয়ে দিয়ে বলবে যে, দায়ূদ এই কাজ করেছে। পলেষ্টীয়দের দেশে আসবার পর থেকে দায়ূদ বরাবরই এই রকম করতেন,

Dauid left not quik man and womman, nether brouyte `in to Geth, and se ide, Lest perauenture thei speken ayens vs. Dauid dide these thingis, and this was his doom, in alle daies in whiche he dwellide in the cuntrei of Filisteis.

12 ১২ কিন্তু আখীশ দায়ূদকে বিশ্বাস করতেন আর ভাবতেন দায়ূদ এই সব কাজ করে তাঁর নিজের জাতি ইস্রায়েলীয়দের কাছে নিজেকে খুব ঘৃণার পাত্র করে তুলেছে আর তাতে সে চিরকাল আমার দাস হয়ে থাকবে।

Therfor Achis bileuyde to Dauid, and seide, Forsothe he wrouyte many yuelis ayens his puple Israel, therfor he schal be euerlastynge seruaunt to me.
