< Joan 18 >

1 Gauça hauc erran cituenean, ilki cedin Iesus bere discipuluequin Cedrongo torrentaz berce aldera, non baitzén baratzebat, ceinetan sar baitzedin hura eta haren discipuluac
When Jesus had said these things, He went with His disciples across the Kidron ravine, where there was a garden, into which He and His disciples entered.
2 Eta baçaquian leku hura Iudasec-ere, ceinec traditzen baitzuen hura: ecen anhitzetan Iesus bildu içan cen hara bere discipuluequin.
Now Judas, who was betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with His disciples.
3 Iudas bada harturic soldadozco bandabat, eta Sacrificadore principaletaric eta Phariseuetaric officierac, ethor cedin hara lanternequin eta torchoequin eta harmequin.
Then Judas, leading a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
4 Iesusec bada çaquizquialaric haren gainera ethorteco ciradenen gauça guciac, aitzinaraturic erran ciecén, Noren bilha çabiltzate?
Therefore Jesus, knowing everything that would happen to Him, went forward and asked them, “Who are you looking for?”
5 Ihardets cieçoten, Iesus Nazarenoren. Dioste Iesusec, Ni naiz. Eta hequin cegoen Iudas-ere ceinec traditzen baitzuen hura.
They answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus told them, “I AM.” Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them.
6 Bada erran cerauenean, Ni naiz, guibelerat citecen, eta eror citecen lurrera.
Now when He told them, “I AM,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
7 Orduan berriz interroga citzan, Noren bilha çabiltzate? Eta hec erran ceçaten, Iesus Nazarenoren.
Then He asked them again, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
8 Ihardets ceçan Iesusec, Erran drauçuet ecen ni naicela: bada baldin ene bilha baçabiltzate, vtzitzaçue hauc ioaitera.
Jesus answered, “I told you that I AM. So, if you are looking for me, let these go their way,”
9 Erran çuen hitza compli ledinçát, Niri hic eman drauzquidanetaric, eztiát galdu batre.
that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, “I have lost none of those who You gave me.”
10 Eta Simon Pierrisec nola baitzuen ezpatá, idoqui ceçan hura, eta io ceçan Sacrificadore subiranoaren cerbitzaria, eta ebaqui cieçón escuineco beharria: eta cerbitzariaren icena cen Malchus.
Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11 Erran cieçón bada Iesusec Pierrisi, Eçarrac eure ezpatá maguinán: ala eztut edanen Aitac niri eman drautan copa?
So Jesus told Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath! Shouldn’t I drink the cup that my Father has given me?”
12 Orduan bandác eta capitainac eta Iuduen officieréc elkarrequin hatzaman ceçaten Iesus, eta esteca ceçaten.
Then the detachment of soldiers and their commander and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and tied Him up.
13 Eta eraman ceçaten lehenic Annasgana: (ecen Caiphasen guinharreba cen, cein baitzén vrthe hartaco Sacrificadore subirano) eta harc igor ceçan hura estecaturic Caiphas Sacrificadore subiranoagana.
They led Him away to Annas first, because he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
14 Eta Caiphas cen conseillu eman cerauena Iuduey ecen probetchu cela guiçombat hil ledin populuagatic.
It was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 Eta iarreiquiten çayón Iesusi Simon Pierris, eta berce discipulubat, eta discipulu hura cen Sacrificadore subiranoaren eçaguna, eta sar cedin Iesusequin batean Sacrificadore subiranoaren salán
Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Since the high priest knew that disciple, he entered with Jesus into the high priest’s court,
16 Baina Pierris borthaldean campotic cegoen. Ilki cedin bada berce discipulu Sacrificadore subiranoaren eçaguna, eta minça cequión nescato borthalçainari, eta sar eraci ceçan Pierris.
but Peter was standing just outside the door. So the other disciple, who the high priest knew, went out and spoke to the woman who guarded the door, and brought Peter in.
17 Eta erran cieçón Pierrisi nescato borthalçainac. Ez othe aiz hi-ere guiçon hunen discipuluetaric? Dio harc, Ez naun.
Then the maidservant who kept the door asked Peter, “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples, too, are you?” He said, “I am not.”
18 Eta ceuden han cerbitzariac eta officierac ikatz kamborra eguinic, ecen hotz ari cen, eta berotzen ciraden: eta cen hequin Pierris-ere eta berotzen cegoen.
Because it was cold, the servants and the officers were standing there warming themselves, having made a charcoal fire. Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.
19 Sacrificadore subiranoac bada interroga ceçan Iesus bere discipuluéz eta bere doctrináz.
Then the high priest asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine.
20 Ihardets cieçón Iesusec, Ni publicoqui minçatu içan natzayóc munduari, nic bethiere iracatsi vkan diat synagogán eta templean, nora Iuduac alde gucietaric biltzen baitirade, eta secretuan eznauc minçatu deus.
Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.
21 Cergatic interrogatzen nauc ni? interrogaitzac ni cer minçatu natzayen ençun dutenac: hará, hec ciaquié cer erran dudan nic.
Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me to tell you what I told them. They certainly know what I said.”
22 Eta gauça hauc harc erran cituenean, present ciraden officieretaric batec cihor colpebat eman cieçón Iesusi, cioela, Horrela ihardesten draucac Sacrificadore subiranoari?
When He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by hit Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?”
23 Ihardets cieçón Iesusec, baldin gaizqui minçatu banaiz, testifica eçac gaizquiaz: eta baldin vngui erran badut, cergatic ioiten nauc?
Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify about the evil, but if I have spoken honestly, why do you hit me?”
24 Orduan igor ceçan hura Annasec estecaturic Caiphas Sacrificadore subiranoagana.
Then Annas sent Him, still bound, to Caiaphas, the high priest.
25 Eta cegoen han Simon Pierris, eta berotzen cen: erran cieçoten bada hari, Ez othe aiz hi-ere haren discipuluetaric? vka ceçan harc, eta erran ceçan, Ez naiz.
Now Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. Therefore they asked him, “You aren’t one of His disciples, too, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not!”
26 Diotsa hari Sacrificadore subiranoaren cerbitzarietaric cembeitec, Pierrisec beharria ebaqui ceraucanaren ahaide batec, Ez aut nic hi ikussi baratzean harequin?
One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with Him?”
27 Orduan berriz vka ceçan Pierrisec, eta bertan oillarrac io ceçan.
Peter then denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed.
28 Guero eraman ceçaten Iesus Caiphasganic Pretoriora: eta cen goiça, eta berac etzitecen sar Pretoriora, satsu ezlitecençat, baina Bazcoa ian leçatençat.
Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium. It was early morning. They themselves didn’t go into the Praetorium, so that they wouldn’t be defiled, and so that they might eat the Passover supper.
29 Ilki cedin bada Pilate hetara campora, eta erran ceçan, Cer accusatione daccarqueçue guiçon hunen contra?
So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges do you bring against this man?”
30 Ihardets ceçaten eta erran cieçoten, Baldin hori gaizqui-eguile ezpaliz, ezquindrauqueán hiri liuratu.
They answered, “If this man wasn’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”
31 Dioste orduan Pilatec, Har eçaçue haur çuec, eta çuen Leguearen arauez condemna eçaçue. Orduan erran cieçoten Iuduéc, Eztuc sori guretzát nehoren hiltzea.
Then Pilate told them, “You take Him and judge Him according to your Law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It’s illegal for us to put anyone to death.”
32 Haur cen Iesusen hitza compli ledinçát, cein erran baitzeçan aditzera emaiten çuela cer herioz hil behar luen.
This happened so that the words would be fulfilled which Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die.
33 Sar cedin bada berriz Pretoriora Pilate, eta dei ceçan Iesus, eta erran cieçón, Hi aiz Iuduen Reguea?
Then Pilate went back into the Praetorium, summoned Jesus, and asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
34 Ihardets cieçon Iesusec, Eurorren burutic hic hori erraiten duc, ala bercéc erran draue niçaz?
Jesus answered, “Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this about me?”
35 Ihardets ceçan Pilatec, Ala ni Iudu naiz? eure nationeac eta Sacrificadore principaléc liuratu arauté: cer eguin duc?
Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?”
36 Ihardets ceçan Iesusec, Ene resumá eztuc mundu hunetaric: baldin mundu hunetaric baliz ene resumá, ene gendeac combati litezquec Iuduey liura eznendinçát: baina orain ene resumá eztuc hemengo.
Jesus answered, “My kingdom doesn’t belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, then my servants would be fighting to keep me from being delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, my kingdom isn’t from here.”
37 Erran cieçón orduan Pilatec, Regue aiz bada hi? Ihardets ceçan Iesusec, Hic dioc ecen Regue naicela ni. Ni hunetacotzát iayo içan nauc, eta hunetacotzát ethorri içan nauc mundura, testimoniage demodançát eguiari. Eguiatic den guciac, ençuten dic ene voza.
Pilate therefore asked Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You are right in saying that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify about the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”
38 Diotsa Pilatec, Cer da eguia? Eta haur erran çuenean, berriz ilki cedin Iuduetara, eta dioste, Nic eztut erideiten haur baithan causaric batre.
“What is truth?” Pilate asked. After asking this, he went out again to the Jews and said, “I find no basis for a charge against Him,
39 Eta costumabat baituçue bat larga dieçaçuedan Bazcoz: nahi duçue bada larga dieçaçuedan Iuduen Reguea?
but you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore you decide: do you want me to release the King of the Jews to you?”
40 Oihuz iar citecen bada berriz guciac, cioitela, Ez hori, baina Barabbas: eta cen Barabbas gaichtaguin-bat.
Then they all shouted back, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
