1 Cen bada Lazaro deitzen cen guiçombat eri, Bethaniaco, Mariaren eta Martha haren ahizparen burguco.
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and Martha her sister.
2 (Eta Maria haur cen Iauna vnguentuz vnctatu çuena, eta haren oinac bere adatseco biloez ichucatu cituena: ceinen anaye Lazaro baitzen eri)
And Mary was she who anointed the Lord with perfume, and wiped his feet with her hair—whose brother Lazarus was sick.

The sisters, therefore, sent out unto him, saying—Lord, see! he whom thou tenderly lovest, is sick.

But Jesus hearing, said—This sickness, is not unto death, but for the glory of God, —that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.
5 Eta cituen maite Iesusec Martha, eta haren ahizpá, eta Lazaro.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 Bada ençun çuenean ecen eri cela, bi egun egon cedin, orduan non baitzén leku hartan.
When, therefore, he heard that he was sick, then, indeed, he abode in the place where he was, two days.
7 Guero horren ondoan erran ciecén discipuluey, Goacen Iudearát berriz.
Then, after this, he saith unto the disciples—Let us be leading on into Judaea, again.
8 Diotsate discipuluéc, Magistruá, orain ciabiltzan Iuduac hi lapidatu nahiz, eta berriz hara ioaiten aiz?
The disciples say unto him—Rabbi! just now, were the Jews seeking to stone thee—and, again, goest thou thither?
9 Ihardets ceçan Iesusec, Egunean eztira hamabi oren? baldin nehor egunaz ebil badadi, ezta behaztopatzen: ecen mundu hunetaco arguia ikusten du.
Jesus answered—Are there not, twelve hours, in the day? If one walk in the day, he doth no stumble, because, the light of this world, he seeth;
10 Baina baldin nehor ebil badadi gauaz, behaztopatzen da: ecen arguiric ezta hura baithan.
But, if one walk in the night, he stumbleth, because, the light, is not in him.
11 Gauça hauc erraiten ditu, eta guero dioste, Lazaro gure adiquisdea lo datza, baina banoa iratzar deçadan.
These things, he said, and, after this, he saith unto them—Lazarus, our dear friend, hath fallen asleep; but I am going, that I may awake him.
12 Erran cieçoten bada bere discipuléc, Iauna, baldin lo badatza sendaturen duc.
The disciples, therefore, said unto him—Lord! if he have fallen asleep, he will recover.
13 Eta haur erran ceçan Iesusec haren herioaz: eta hec vste çuten lozco lokartzeaz erraiten çuela.
But Jesus had spoken concerning his death; whereas, they, supposed that, concerning the taking of rest in sleep, he had been speaking.
14 Orduan bada erran ciecén Iesusec claroqui, Lazaro hil da:
Jesus, therefore, then, said unto them, plainly, —Lazarus, died;
15 Eta aleguera naiz çuengatic (sinhets deçaçuençat) ceren ezpainincén han: baina goacen harengana.
and I rejoice, for your sake—that ye may believe, —that I was not there; but let us be going unto him.
16 Erran ciecén bada Thomas Didymus deitzen denac discipulu laguney, Goacen gu-ere horrequin hil gaitecençát.
Thomas, therefore, the one called Didymus, said unto his fellow-disciples—Let, us also, be going, that we may die with him.
17 Ethor cedin bada Iesus, eta eriden ceçan hura ia laur egun çuela monumentean cela.
Jesus, therefore, coming, found that, four days already, had he been in the tomb.
18 Cen bada Bethania hurbil Ierusalemeren hamaborz stadioren inguruä:
Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;
19 Eta Iuduetaric anhitz ethor citecen Marthagana eta Mariagana, hec consola litzatençát bere anayeaz.
and, many from among the Jews, had come unto Martha and Mary, that they might console them concerning their brother.
20 Marthac bada ençun ceçanean Iesus ethorten cela, aitzinera ilki cequión: eta Maria etchean iarriric cegoen.
Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet him; but, Mary, in the house, remained sitting.
21 Erran cieçón bada Marthac Iesusi, Iauna, baldin içan bahinz hemen, ene anaye etzuqueán hil:
Martha, therefore, said unto Jesus—Lord! if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;
22 Baina orain-ere baceaquiat ecen cer-ere galde eguinen baitraucac Iaincoari, emanen drauala hiri.
And, now, I know, that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God, will give unto thee.
23 Diotsa Iesusec, Resuscitaturen dun hire anaye.
Jesus saith unto her—Thy brother shall rise.
24 Diotsa Marthac, Baceaquiat ecen resuscitaturen dela resurrectionean, azquen egunean.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise, in the resurrection, in the last day.
25 Erran cieçón Iesusec, Ni naun resurrectionea eta vicitzea: ni baithan sinhesten duena, baldin hil içan badere vicico dun:
Jesus said unto her—I, am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, even though he die, shall live again!
26 Eta nor-ere vici baita, eta sinhesten baitu ni baithan, seculan eztun hilen. Sinhesten dun haur? (aiōn g165)
And, no one who liveth again and believeth on me, shall in anywise die, unto times age-abiding. Believest thou this? (aiōn g165)
27 Erraiten drauca, Bay, Iauna, nic diat sinhesten ecen hi aicela Christ Iaincoaren Seme mundura ethorteco cena.
She saith unto him—Yea, Lord! I, have believed, that, thou, art the Christ, the Son of God, —He who, into the world, should come.
28 Eta haur erranic, ioan cedin, eta secretuqui dei ceçan Maria bere ahizpá, cioela, Magistrua dun hemen, eta deitzen au.
And this saying, she went away, and called Mary her sister, secretly, saying—The teacher, is present, and calleth thee.
29 Hura, hori ençun duenean, iaiquiten da fitetz, eta ethorten da harengana.
And, she, when she heard, was roused up quickly, and was coming unto him.
30 Ecen oraino etzén ethorri Iesus burgura: baina cen Marthac encontratu çuen lekuan.
Not yet, however, had Jesus come into the village, but was still in the place where, Martha, met him.
31 Orduan harequin etchean ciraden Iuduac, eta hura consolatzen çutenac, ikussiric ecen Maria hain fitetz iaiqui, eta ilki cela, iarreiqui cequizquion hari, cioitela, Monumentera ioaiten da, han nigar daguiançat.
The Jews, therefore, who were with her in the house and consoling her, seeing Mary, that quickly she arose and went out, followed her, supposing that she was withdrawing unto the tomb, that she might weep there.
32 Bada Mariac, ethor cedinean Iesus cen lekura, hura ikussiric, egotz ceçan bere buruä haren oinetara, ciotsala, Iauna, baldin içan bahinz hemen, etzuqueán hil ene anaye.
Mary, therefore, when she came where Jesus was, seeing him, fell at his feet, saying unto him—Lord! if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 Iesusec bada ikus ceçanean hura nigarrez legoela, eta harequin ethorri ciraden Iuduac nigarrez leudela, spirituz mouituric trubla ceçan bere buruä:
Jesus, therefore, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, was indignant in the spirit, and troubled himself,
34 Eta erran ceçan, Non eçarri duçue? Erraiten draucate, Iauna, athor eta ikussac.
and said—Where have ye laid him? They say unto him—Lord! come and see.
35 Eta nigar eguin ceçan Iesusec.
Jesus wept.
36 Erran ceçaten bada Iuduéc, Horra nola maite çuen.
The Jews, therefore, were saying—See! how tenderly he loved him!
37 Eta hetaric batzuc erran ceçaten, Ecin eguin ciroqueen itsuaren beguiac irequi dituen hunec, haur-ere hil ezladin?
But, some from among them, said—Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that, this one also, should not have died?
38 Iesus bada berriz bere baithan mouitzen cela, ethorten da monumentera, eta lecea cen, eta harribat haren gainera, eçarria.
Jesus, therefore, again, being indignant within himself, cometh unto the tomb. Now it was a cave, and, a stone, was lying thereon.
39 Dio Iesusec, Altcha eçaçue harria. Diotsa Marthac, hil içan cenaren arrebác, Iauna, kirestu duc gaurguero: ecen laur egunetacoa duc.
Jesus, saith, Take ye away the stone! Martha, the sister of the deceased, saith unto him—Lord! by this time, he stinketh, for it is, four days.
40 Diotsa Iesusec, Eztraunat erran, ecen baldin sinhets badeçan ikussiren dunala Iaincoaren gloria?
Jesus saith unto her—Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldst believe, thou shouldst see the glory of God?
41 Ken ceçaten bada harria, hila eçarri içan cen lekutic. Orduan Iesusec altchaturic goiti beguiac, erran ceçan, Aitá, esquerrac emaiten drauzquiat, ceren ençun bainauc:
So they took away the stone. And, Jesus, lifted up his eyes on high, and said—Father! I thank thee, thou didst hear me:
42 Eta nic baniaquián ecen bethi ençuten nauala: baina inguru dagoen gendetzeagatic erran diát, sinhets deçatençat ecen hic igorri nauala.
I, indeed, knew that, always, unto me, thou dost hearken; but, for the sake of the multitude standing around, I spake, —that they might believe that, thou, didst send me forth.
43 Eta hauc erranic, voz goraz oihu eguin ceçan, Lazaro, athor campora.
And, these things, having said, with a loud voice, he cried out—Lazarus! Come forth!
44 Eta hil içan cena ilki cedin, escuac eta oinac lothuraz lothuac cituela: eta haren beguithartea crobitchet batez cen estalia. Dioste Iesusec, Lacha eçaçue eta vtzi eçaçue ioaitera.
He that was dead came forth, bound feet and hands with bandages, and, his face, with a napkin, was bound about. Jesus saith unto them—Loose him, and let him go.
45 Bada Iudu Mariagana ethorri ciradenetaric, eta Iesusec eguin cituen gauçác ikussi cituztenetaric anhitzec sinhets ceçaten hura baithan.
Many therefore from among the Jews, who had come unto Mary, and gazed on what he did, believed on him
46 Baina hetaric batzu ioan citecen Phariseuetara, eta erran cietzen hæy Iesusec eguin cituen gauçác.
but, certain from among them, went away unto the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done.
47 Orduan bil ceçaten Sacrificadore principaléc eta Phariseuéc conseillua, eta erraiten çuten, Cer eguiten dugu, ecen guiçon hunec anhitz signo eguiten du.
The High-priests and Pharisees, therefore, brought together a high-council, and were saying—What are we to do, in that, this man, doeth, many signs?
48 Baldin hunela vtzi badeçagu, guciéc sinhetsiren duté hori baithan: eta ethorriren dirade Romanoac, eta arrasaturen duté bay gure lekua, bay nationea.
If we let him alone thus, all, will believe on him, and the Romans will come, and take away, both our place and nation.
49 Orduan hetaric batec, Caiphasec, cein baitzén vrthe hartaco Sacrificadore subirano, erran ciecén, Çuec eztaquiçue deus:
But, a certain one from among them, Caiaphas, being, High-priest, for that year, said unto them—Ye, know, nothing at all;
50 Eta eztuçue pensatzen ecen probetchu dugula, guiçombat hil dadin populuagatic, eta natione gucia gal eztadin.
nor do ye take into account, that it is profitable for you that, one man, should die for the people, and not, the whole nation, perish.
51 Eta haur bere burutic etzeçan erran: baina nola baitzén vrthe hartaco Sacrificadore subirano, prophetiza ceçan ecen Iesusec hil behar luela nationeagatic.
This, however, from himself, he spake not, but, being, High-priest, for that year, he prophesied, that Jesus was about to die for the nation;
52 Eta ez solament natione harengatic, baina are Iaincoaren haour barreyatuac bil litzançát batetara
and, not for the nation only, but that, the scattered children of God also, he might gather together into one.
53 Bada egun harçaz gueroztic consultatzen çutén elkarrequin hura hil leçatençát.
From that day, therefore, they took counsel, that they might put him to death.
54 Iesus bada guehiagoric etzabilan aguerriz Iuduén artean: baina ioan cedin handic desertuaren aldeco comarcarát, Ephraim deitzen den hirira: eta han egoiten cen bere discipuluequin.
Jesus, therefore, no longer openly, was walking among the Jews, but departed thence, into the country near the desert, unto a city called, Ephraim; and, there, abode, with his disciples.
55 Eta cen hurbil Iuduén bazcoa, eta igan cedin anhitz Ierusalemera comarca hartacoric bazco aitzinean, purifica litecençat.
Now the passover of the Jews was at hand, and many went up unto Jerusalem, out of the country, before the passover, that they might purify themselves.
56 Bada Iesusen bilha çabiltzan, eta elkarren artean erraiten çutén, templean leudela, Cer irudi çaiçue, ecen eztela ethorriren bestara?
They were therefore seeking Jesus, and were saying one to another, in the temple, standing—How seemeth it unto you? that he will in nowise come unto the feast?
57 Eta eman ceçaten Sacrificadore principaléc eta Phariseuéc manamendu, baldin nehorc eçagutzen balu non licén, eracuts leçan, hatzaman leçatençát.
Now the High-priests and the Pharisees had given commands, that, if anyone came to know where he was, he should inform [them], so that they might seize him.
