ܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܠܟܝܙܕܩ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܠܟ ܫܠܝ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܪܝܡܐ ܘܗܘ ܐܪܥܗ ܠܐܒܪܗ ܟܕ ܗܦܟ ܡܢ ܚܪܒܐ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܘܒܪܟܗ 1
For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,
ܘܠܗ ܦܪܫ ܐܒܪܗ ܡܥܤܪܐ ܡܢ ܟܠܡܕ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗ ܡܬܦܫܩ ܕܝܢ ܫܡܗ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܟܐܢܘܬܐ ܘܬܘܒ ܡܠܟ ܫܠܝ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܫܠܡܐ 2
to whom also Abraham divided "a tenth part of everything" (being first, by interpretation, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace;
ܕܠܐ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܐܡܗ ܐܬܟܬܒܘ ܒܫܪܒܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܪܝܫܝܬܐ ܕܝܘܡܘܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܫܘܠܡܐ ܕܚܝܘܗܝ ܐܠܐ ܒܕܡܘܬܐ ܕܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܩܘܝܐ ܟܘܡܪܘܬܗ ܠܥܠ 3
without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a priest continually.
ܚܙܘ ܕܝܢ ܟܡܐ ܪܒ ܗܢܐ ܕܐܒܪܗ ܪܝܫ ܐܒܗܬܐ ܠܗ ܝܗܒ ܡܥܤܪܐ ܕܪܫܝܬܐ 4
Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the most valuable plunder.
ܐܝܠܝܢ ܓܝܪ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܠܘܝ ܕܡܩܒܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܟܘܡܪܘܬܐ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܢܡܘܤܐ ܕܢܤܒܘܢ ܡܥܤܪܐ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܚܝܗܘܢ ܟܕ ܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܡܢ ܚܨܗ ܕܐܒܪܗ ܢܦܩܘ 5
They indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest's office have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the Law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the body of Abraham,
ܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܟܬܝܒ ܒܫܪܒܬܗܘܢ ܡܥܤܪܐ ܫܩܠ ܡܢ ܐܒܪܗ ܘܒܪܟܗ ܠܗܘ ܕܩܒܠ ܡܘܠܟܢܐ 6
but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has accepted tithes from Abraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.
ܕܠܐ ܚܪܝܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܗܘ ܕܒܨܝܪ ܡܬܒܪܟ ܡܢ ܗܘ ܕܡܝܬܪ ܡܢܗ 7
But without any dispute the lesser is blessed by the greater.
ܘܗܪܟܐ ܒܢܝܢܫܐ ܕܡܝܬܝܢ ܢܤܒܝܢ ܡܥܤܪܐ ܠܗܠ ܕܝܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܤܗܕ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܟܬܒܐ ܕܚܝ ܗܘ 8
Here people who die receive tithes, but there one receives tithes of whom it is testified that he lives.
ܘܐܝܟ ܐܢܫ ܢܐܡܪ ܒܝܕ ܐܒܪܗ ܐܦ ܠܘܝ ܗܘ ܕܡܥܤܪܐ ܢܤܒ ܗܘܐ ܐܦ ܗܘ ܐܬܥܤܪ 9
We can say that through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,
ܥܕܟܝܠ ܓܝܪ ܒܚܨܗ ܗܘܐ ܕܐܒܘܗܝ ܟܕ ܐܪܥܗ ܠܡܠܟܝܙܕܩ 10
for he was yet in the body of his father when Melchizedek met him.
ܐܠܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܓܡܝܪܘܬܐ ܒܝܕ ܟܘܡܪܘܬܐ ܕܠܘܝܐ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܗܘܬ ܕܒܗ ܤܝ ܢܡܘܤܐ ܠܥܡܐ ܠܡܢܐ ܡܬܒܥܐ ܗܘܐ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܕܢܩܘ ܒܕܡܘܬܗ ܕܡܠܟܝܙܕܩ ܐܡܪ ܕܝܢ ܕܒܕܡܘܬܗ ܕܐܗܪܘܢ ܢܗܘܐ 11
Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܗܘܐ ܫܘܚܠܦܐ ܒܟܘܡܪܘܬܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܗܘܐ ܫܘܚܠܦܐ ܐܦ ܒܢܡܘܤܐ 12
For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the law.
ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܬܐܡܪ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܢ ܫܪܒܬܐ ܗܘ ܐܚܪܬܐ ܐܬܝܠܕ ܕܐܢܫ ܡܡܬܘ ܡܢܗ ܠܐ ܫܡܫ ܒܡܕܒܚܐ 13
For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.
ܓܠܝܐ ܗܝ ܓܝܪ ܕܡܢ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܕܢܚ ܡܪܢ ܡܢ ܫܪܒܬܐ ܕܠܐ ܐܡܪ ܥܠܝܗ ܡܘܫܐ ܡܕ ܥܠ ܟܘܡܪܘܬܐ 14
For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, about which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.
ܘܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܬܘܒ ܝܕܝܥܐ ܒܗܝ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܒܕܡܘܬܗ ܕܡܠܟܝܙܕܩ ܩܐ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ 15
This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,
ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܒܢܡܘܤܐ ܕܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܦܓܪܢܝܐ ܗܘܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܚܝܠܐ ܕܚܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܫܬܪܝܢ 16
who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life:
ܡܤܗܕ ܓܝܪ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܕܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܠܥܠ ܒܕܡܘܬܗ ܕܡܠܟܝܙܕܩ (aiōn g165) 17
for it is testified, "You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek." (aiōn g165)
ܫܘܚܠܦܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܗܘܐ ܠܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܡܚܝܠܘܬܗ ܘܕܝܘܬܪܢ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܒܗ 18
For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness
ܡܕ ܓܝܪ ܠܐ ܓܡܪ ܢܡܘܤܐ ܥܠ ܕܝܢ ܚܠܦܘܗܝ ܤܒܪܐ ܕܡܝܬܪ ܡܢܗ ܕܒܗ ܡܬܩܪܒܝܢܢ ܠܐܠܗܐ 19
(for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
ܘܫܪܪܗ ܠܢ ܒܡܘܡܬܐ 20
Inasmuch as he was not made priest without the taking of an oath,
ܗܢܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܠܐ ܡܘܡܬܐ ܗܘܘ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܡܘܡܬܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܒܝܕ ܕܘܝܕ ܕܝܡܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܕܓܠ ܕܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܠܥܠ ܒܕܡܘܬܗ ܕܡܠܟܝܙܕܩ (aiōn g165) 21
for they indeed have been made priests without an oath, but he with an oath by him that says of him, "The Lord swore and will not change his mind, 'You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.'" (aiōn g165)
ܗܢܐ ܟܠܗ ܡܝܬܪܐ ܕܝܬܩܐ ܗܕܐ ܕܗܘܐ ܒܗ ܥܪܒܐ ܝܫܘܥ 22
Accordingly Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.
ܘܗܢܘܢ ܗܘܘ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܤܓܝܐܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܝܬܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܠܐ ܡܫܬܒܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܢܩܘܘܢ 23
Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death.
ܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܥܠ ܩܝ ܠܐ ܥܒܪܐ ܟܘܡܪܘܬܗ (aiōn g165) 24
But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable. (aiōn g165)
ܘܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܚܝܘ ܠܥܠ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܬܩܪܒܝܢ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܚܝ ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܒܟܠܙܒܢ ܘܡܤܩ ܨܠܘܬܐ ܚܠܦܝܗܘܢ 25
Therefore he is also able to save completely those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.
ܕܐܝܟ ܗܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܐܦ ܙܕܩ ܗܘܐ ܠܢ ܕܟܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܒܝܫܘ ܘܕܠܐ ܛܘܠܫܐ ܕܦܪܝܩ ܡܢ ܚܛܗܐ ܘܡܪܝ ܠܥܠ ܡܢ ܫܡܝܐ 26
For such a high priest was indeed fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
ܘܠܝܬ ܠܗ ܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܟܠܝܘ ܐܝܟ ܪܒܝ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܕܠܘܩܕ ܚܠܦ ܚܛܗܘܗܝ ܢܩܪܒ ܕܒܚܐ ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܚܠܦ ܥܡܐ ܗܕܐ ܓܝܪ ܥܒܕܗ ܚܕܐ ܙܒܢ ܒܢܦܫܗ ܕܩܪܒ 27
who does not need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself.
ܢܡܘܤܐ ܓܝܪ ܒܢܝܢܫܐ ܗܘ ܟܪܝܗܐ ܡܩܝ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܡܠܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܘܡܬܐ ܕܗܘܬ ܒܬܪ ܢܡܘܤܐ ܒܪܐ ܓܡܝܪܐ ܠܥܠ (aiōn g165) 28
For the Law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the Law appoints a Son forever who has been perfected. (aiōn g165)
