أَمْثَالٌ 8

١ 1 أَلَعَلَّ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ لَا تُنَادِي؟ وَٱلْفَهْمَ أَلَا يُعْطِي صَوْتَهُ؟

Whether wisdom crieth not ofte; and prudence yyueth his vois?

٢ 2 عِنْدَ رُؤُوسِ ٱلشَّوَاهِقِ، عِنْدَ ٱلطَّرِيقِ بَيْنَ ٱلْمَسَالِكِ تَقِفُ.

In souereyneste and hiy coppis, aboue the weie, in the myddis of pathis,

٣ 3 بِجَانِبِ ٱلْأَبْوَابِ، عِنْدَ ثَغْرِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ، عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ ٱلْأَبْوَابِ تُصَرِّحُ:

and it stondith bisidis the yate of the citee, in thilke closyngis, and spekith, and seith, A!

٤ 4 «لَكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ أُنَادِي، وَصَوْتِي إِلَى بَنِي آدَمَ.

ye men, Y crie ofte to you; and my vois is to the sones of men.

٥ 5 أَيُّهَا ٱلْحَمْقَى تَعَلَّمُوا ذَكَاءً، وَيَا جُهَّالُ تَعَلَّمُوا فَهْمًا.

Litle children, vndirstonde ye wisdom; and ye vnwise men, `perseyue wisdom.

٦ 6 اِسْمَعُوا فَإِنِّي أَتَكَلَّمُ بِأُمُورٍ شَرِيفَةٍ، وَٱفْتِتَاحُ شَفَتَيَّ ٱسْتِقَامَةٌ.

Here ye, for Y schal speke of grete thingis; and my lippis schulen be openyd, to preche riytful thingis.

٧ 7 لِأَنَّ حَنَكِي يَلْهَجُ بِٱلصِّدْقِ، وَمَكْرَهَةُ شَفَتَيَّ ٱلْكَذِبُ.

My throte schal bithenke treuthe; and my lippis schulen curse a wickid man.

٨ 8 كُلُّ كَلِمَاتِ فَمِي بِٱلْحَقِّ. لَيْسَ فِيهَا عِوَجٌ وَلَا ٱلْتِوَاءٌ.

My wordis ben iust; no schrewid thing, nether weiward is in tho.

٩ 9 كُلُّهَا وَاضِحَةٌ لَدَى ٱلْفَهِيمِ، وَمُسْتَقِيمَةٌ لَدَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَجِدُونَ ٱلْمَعْرِفَةَ.

`My wordis ben riytful to hem that vndurstonden; and ben euene to hem that fynden kunnyng.

١٠ 10 خُذُوا تَأْدِيبِي لَا ٱلْفِضَّةَ، وَٱلْمَعْرِفَةَ أَكْثَرَ مِنَ ٱلذَّهَبِ ٱلْمُخْتَارِ.

Take ye my chastisyng, and not money; chese ye teching more than tresour.

١١ 11 لِأَنَّ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ خَيْرٌ مِنَ ٱلَّلآلِئِ، وَكُلُّ ٱلْجَوَاهِرِ لَا تُسَاوِيهَا.

For wisdom is betere than alle richessis moost preciouse; and al desirable thing mai not be comparisound therto.

١٢ 12 «أَنَا ٱلْحِكْمَةُ أَسْكُنُ ٱلذَّكَاءَ، وَأَجِدُ مَعْرِفَةَ ٱلتَّدَابِيرِ.

Y, wisdom, dwelle in counsel; and Y am among lernyd thouytis.

١٣ 13 مَخَافَةُ ٱلرَّبِّ بُغْضُ ٱلشَّرِّ. ٱلْكِبْرِيَاءَ وَٱلتَّعَظُّمَ وَطَرِيقَ ٱلشَّرِّ وَفَمَ ٱلْأَكَاذِيبِ أَبْغَضْتُ.

The drede of the Lord hatith yuel; Y curse boost, and pride, and a schrewid weie, and a double tungid mouth.

١٤ 14 لِي ٱلْمَشُورَةُ وَٱلرَّأْيُ. أَنَا ٱلْفَهْمُ. لِي ٱلْقُدْرَةُ.

Counseil is myn, and equyte `is myn; prudence is myn, and strengthe `is myn.

١٥ 15 بِي تَمْلِكُ ٱلْمُلُوكُ، وَتَقْضِي ٱلْعُظَمَاءُ عَدْلًا.

Kyngis regnen bi me; and the makeris of lawis demen iust thingis bi me.

١٦ 16 بِي تَتَرَأَّسُ ٱلرُّؤَسَاءُ وَٱلشُّرَفَاءُ، كُلُّ قُضَاةِ ٱلْأَرْضِ.

Princis comaunden bi me; and myyti men demen riytfulnesse bi me.

١٧ 17 أَنَا أُحِبُّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَنِي، وَٱلَّذِينَ يُبَكِّرُونَ إِلَيَّ يَجِدُونَنِي.

I loue hem that louen me; and thei that waken eerli to me, schulen fynde me.

١٨ 18 عِنْدِي ٱلْغِنَى وَٱلْكَرَامَةُ. قِنْيَةٌ فَاخِرَةٌ وَحَظٌّ.

With me ben rychessis, and glorie; souereyn richessis, and riytfulnesse.

١٩ 19 ثَمَرِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ ٱلذَّهَبِ وَمِنَ ٱلْإِبْرِيزِ، وَغَلَّتِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ ٱلْفِضَّةِ ٱلْمُخْتَارَةِ.

My fruyt is betere than gold, and precyouse stoon; and my seedis ben betere than chosun siluer.

٢٠ 20 فِي طَرِيقِ ٱلْعَدْلِ أَتَمَشَّى، فِي وَسَطِ سُبُلِ ٱلْحَقِّ،

Y go in the weies of riytfulnesse, in the myddis of pathis of doom;

٢١ 21 فَأُوَرِّثُ مُحِبِّيَّ رِزْقًا وَأَمْلَأُ خَزَائِنَهُمْ.

that Y make riche hem that louen me, and that Y fille her tresouris.

٢٢ 22 «اَلرَّبُّ قَنَانِي أَوَّلَ طَرِيقِهِ، مِنْ قَبْلِ أَعْمَالِهِ، مُنْذُ ٱلْقِدَمِ.

The Lord weldide me in the bigynnyng of hise weies; bifore that he made ony thing, at the bigynnyng.

٢٣ 23 مُنْذُ ٱلْأَزَلِ مُسِحْتُ، مُنْذُ ٱلْبَدْءِ، مُنْذُ أَوَائِلِ ٱلْأَرْضِ.

Fro with out bigynnyng Y was ordeined; and fro elde tymes, bifor that the erthe was maad.

٢٤ 24 إِذْ لَمْ يَكُنْ غَمْرٌ أُبْدِئْتُ. إِذْ لَمْ تَكُنْ يَنَابِيعُ كَثِيرَةُ ٱلْمِيَاهِ.

Depthis of watris weren not yit; and Y was conseyued thanne. The wellis of watris hadden not brokun out yit,

٢٥ 25 مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَقَرَّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ، قَبْلَ ٱلتِّلَالِ أُبْدِئْتُ.

and hillis stoden not togidere yit bi sad heuynesse; bifor litil hillis Y was born.

٢٦ 26 إِذْ لَمْ يَكُنْ قَدْ صَنَعَ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدُ وَلَا ٱلْبَرَارِيَّ وَلَا أَوَّلَ أَعْفَارِ ٱلْمَسْكُونَةِ.

Yit he hadde not maad erthe; and floodis, and the herris of the world.

٢٧ 27 لَمَّا ثَبَّتَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ كُنْتُ هُنَاكَ أَنَا. لَمَّا رَسَمَ دَائِرَةً عَلَى وَجْهِ ٱلْغَمْرِ.

Whanne he made redi heuenes, Y was present; whanne he cumpasside the depthis of watris bi certeyn lawe and cumpas.

٢٨ 28 لَمَّا أَثْبَتَ ٱلسُّحُبَ مِنْ فَوْقُ. لَمَّا تَشَدَّدَتْ يَنَابِيعُ ٱلْغَمْرِ.

Whanne he made stidfast the eir aboue; and weiede the wellis of watris.

٢٩ 29 لَمَّا وَضَعَ لِلْبَحْرِ حَدَّهُ فَلَا تَتَعَدَّى ٱلْمِيَاهُ تُخْمَهُ، لَمَّا رَسَمَ أُسُسَ ٱلْأَرْضِ،

Whanne he cumpasside to the see his marke; and settide lawe to watris, that tho schulden not passe her coostis. Whanne he peiside the foundementis of erthe;

٣٠ 30 كُنْتُ عِنْدَهُ صَانِعًا، وَكُنْتُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ لَذَّتَهُ، فَرِحَةً دَائِمًا قُدَّامَهُ.

Y was making alle thingis with him. And Y delitide bi alle daies, and pleiede bifore hym in al tyme,

٣١ 31 فَرِحَةً فِي مَسْكُونَةِ أَرْضِهِ، وَلَذَّاتِي مَعَ بَنِي آدَمَ.

and Y pleiede in the world; and my delices ben to be with the sones of men.

٣٢ 32 «فَٱلْآنَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْبَنُونَ ٱسْمَعُوا لِي. فَطُوبَى لِلَّذِينَ يَحْفَظُونَ طُرُقِي.

Now therfor, sones, here ye me; blessid ben thei that kepen my weies.

٣٣ 33 ٱسْمَعُوا ٱلتَّعْلِيمَ وَكُونُوا حُكَمَاءَ وَلَا تَرْفُضُوهُ.

Here ye teching, and be ye wise men; and nile ye caste it awei.

٣٤ 34 طُوبَى لِلْإِنْسَانِ ٱلَّذِي يَسْمَعُ لِي سَاهِرًا كُلَّ يَوْمٍ عِنْدَ مَصَارِيعِي، حَافِظًا قَوَائِمَ أَبْوَابِي.

Blessid is the man that herith me, and that wakith at my yatis al dai; and kepith at the postis of my dore.

٣٥ 35 لِأَنَّهُ مَنْ يَجِدُنِي يَجِدُ ٱلْحَيَاةَ، وَيَنَالُ رِضًى مِنَ ٱلرَّبِّ،

He that fyndith me, schal fynde lijf; and schal drawe helthe of the Lord.

٣٦ 36 وَمَنْ يُخْطِئُ عَنِّي يَضُرُّ نَفْسَهُ. كُلُّ مُبْغِضِيَّ يُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَوْتَ».

But he that synneth ayens me, schal hurte his soule; alle that haten me, louen deeth.
