أَيُّوبَ 38

١ 1 فَأَجَابَ ٱلرَّبُّ أَيُّوبَ مِنَ ٱلْعَاصِفَةِ وَقَالَ:

And after Elius had ceased from speaking, the Lord spoke to Job through the whirlwind and clouds, [saying],

٢ 2 «مَنْ هَذَا ٱلَّذِي يُظْلِمُ ٱلْقَضَاءَ بِكَلَامٍ بِلَا مَعْرِفَةٍ؟

Who is this that hides counsel from me, and confines words in [his] heart, and thinks to conceal [them] from me?

٣ 3 اُشْدُدِ ٱلْآنَ حَقْوَيْكَ كَرَجُلٍ، فَإِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فَتُعَلِّمُنِي.

Gird your loins like a man; and I will ask you, and do you answer me.

٤ 4 أَيْنَ كُنْتَ حِينَ أَسَّسْتُ ٱلْأَرْضَ؟ أَخْبِرْ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ فَهْمٌ.

Where was you when I founded the earth? tell me now, if you have knowledge,

٥ 5 مَنْ وَضَعَ قِيَاسَهَا؟ لِأَنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ! أَوْ مَنْ مَدَّ عَلَيْهَا مِطْمَارًا؟

who set the measures of it, if you know? or who stretched a line upon it?

٦ 6 عَلَى أَيِّ شَيْءٍ قَرَّتْ قَوَاعِدُهَا؟ أَوْ مَنْ وَضَعَ حَجَرَ زَاوِيَتِهَا،

On what are its rings fastened? and who is he that laid the corner-stone upon it?

٧ 7 عِنْدَمَا تَرَنَّمَتْ كَوَاكِبُ ٱلصُّبْحِ مَعًا، وَهَتَفَ جَمِيعُ بَنِي ٱللهِ؟

When the stars were made, all my angels praised me with a loud voice.

٨ 8 «وَمَنْ حَجَزَ ٱلْبَحْرَ بِمَصَارِيعَ حِينَ ٱنْدَفَقَ فَخَرَجَ مِنَ ٱلرَّحِمِ.

And I shut up the sea with gates, when it rushed out, coming forth out its mother's womb.

٩ 9 إِذْ جَعَلْتُ ٱلسَّحَابَ لِبَاسَهُ، وَٱلضَّبَابَ قِمَاطَهُ،

And I made a cloud its clothing, and swathed it in mist.

١٠ 10 وَجَزَمْتُ عَلَيْهِ حَدِّي، وَأَقَمْتُ لَهُ مَغَالِيقَ وَمَصَارِيعَ،

And I set bounds to it, surrounding it with bars and gates.

١١ 11 وَقُلْتُ: إِلَى هُنَا تَأْتِي وَلَا تَتَعَدَّى، وَهُنَا تُتْخَمُ كِبْرِيَاءُ لُجَجِكَ؟

And I said to it, Hitherto shall you come, but you shall not go beyond, but your waves shall be confined within you.

١٢ 12 «هَلْ فِي أَيَّامِكَ أَمَرْتَ ٱلصُّبْحَ؟ هَلْ عَرَّفْتَ ٱلْفَجْرَ مَوْضِعَهُ

Or did I order the morning light in your time; and [did] the morning star [then first] see his appointed place;

١٣ 13 لِيُمْسِكَ بِأَكْنَافِ ٱلْأَرْضِ، فَيُنْفَضَ ٱلْأَشْرَارُ مِنْهَا؟

to lay hold of the extremities of the earth, to cast out the ungodly out of it?

١٤ 14 تَتَحَوَّلُ كَطِينِ ٱلْخَاتِمِ، وَتَقِفُ كَأَنَّهَا لَابِسَةٌ.

Or did you take clay of the ground, and form a living creature, and set it with the power of speech upon the earth?

١٥ 15 وَيُمْنَعُ عَنِ ٱلْأَشْرَارِ نُورُهُمْ، وَتَنْكَسِرُ ٱلذِّرَاعُ ٱلْمُرْتَفِعَةُ.

And have you removed light from the ungodly, and crushed the arm of the proud?

١٦ 16 «هَلِ ٱنْتَهَيْتَ إِلَى يَنَابِيعِ ٱلْبَحْرِ، أَوْ فِي مَقْصُورَةِ ٱلْغَمْرِ تَمَشَّيْتَ؟

Or have you gone to the source of the sea, and walked in the tracks of the deep?

١٧ 17 هَلِ ٱنْكَشَفَتْ لَكَ أَبْوَابُ ٱلْمَوْتِ، أَوْ عَايَنْتَ أَبْوَابَ ظِلِّ ٱلْمَوْتِ؟

And do the gates of death open to you for fear; and did the porters of hell quake when they saw you? (questioned)

١٨ 18 هَلْ أَدْرَكْتَ عَرْضَ ٱلْأَرْضِ؟ أَخْبِرْ إِنْ عَرَفْتَهُ كُلَّهُ.

And have you been instructed in the breadth of the [whole earth] under heaven? tell me now, what is the extent of it?

١٩ 19 «أَيْنَ ٱلطَّرِيقُ إِلَى حَيْثُ يَسْكُنُ ٱلنُّورُ؟ وَٱلظُّلْمَةُ أَيْنَ مَقَامُهَا،

And in what kind of a land does the light dwell? and of what kind is the place of darkness?

٢٠ 20 حَتَّى تَأْخُذَهَا إِلَى تُخُومِهَا وَتَعْرِفَ سُبُلَ بَيْتِهَا؟

If you could bring me to their [utmost] boundaries, and if also you know their paths;

٢١ 21 تَعْلَمُ، لِأَنَّكَ حِينَئِذٍ كُنْتَ قَدْ وُلِدْتَ، وَعَدَدُ أَيَّامِكَ كَثِيرٌ!

I know then that you were born at that time, and the number of your years is great.

٢٢ 22 «أَدَخَلْتَ إِلَى خَزَائِنِ ٱلثَّلْجِ، أَمْ أَبْصَرْتَ مَخَازِنَ ٱلْبَرَدِ،

But have you gone to the treasures of snow? and have you seen the treasures of hail?

٢٣ 23 ٱلَّتِي أَبْقَيْتَهَا لِوَقْتِ ٱلضَّرِّ، لِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِتَالِ وَٱلْحَرْبِ؟

And is there a store [of them], for you against the time of [your] enemies, for the day of wars and battle?

٢٤ 24 فِي أَيِّ طَرِيقٍ يَتَوَزَّعُ ٱلنُّورُ، وَتَتَفَرَّقُ ٱلشَّرْقِيَّةُ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ؟

And whence proceeds the frost? or [whence] is the south wind dispersed over the [whole world] under heaven?

٢٥ 25 مَنْ فَرَّعَ قَنَوَاتٍ لِلْهَطْلِ، وَطَرِيقًا لِلصَّوَاعِقِ،

And who prepared a course for the violent rain, and a way for the thunders;

٢٦ 26 لِيَمْطُرَ عَلَى أَرْضٍ حَيْثُ لَا إِنْسَانَ، عَلَى قَفْرٍ لَا أَحَدَ فِيهِ،

to rain upon the land where [there is] no man, the wilderness, where there is not a man in it; so as to feed the untrodden and uninhabited [land],

٢٧ 27 لِيُرْوِيَ ٱلْبَلْقَعَ وَٱلْخَلَاءَ وَيُنْبِتَ مَخْرَجَ ٱلْعُشْبِ؟

and cause it to send forth a crop of green herbs?

٢٨ 28 «هَلْ لِلْمَطَرِ أَبٌ؟ وَمَنْ وَلَدَ مَآجِلَ ٱلطَّلِّ؟

Who is the rain's father? and who has generated the drops of dew?

٢٩ 29 مِنْ بَطْنِ مَنْ خَرَجَ ٱلْجَمَدُ؟ صَقِيعُ ٱلسَّمَاءِ، مَنْ وَلَدَهُ؟

And out of whose womb comes the ice? and who has produced the frost in the sky,

٣٠ 30 كَحَجَرٍ صَارَتِ ٱلْمِيَاهُ. ٱخْتَبَأَتْ. وَتَلَكَّدَ وَجْهُ ٱلْغَمْرِ.

which descends like flowing water? who has terrified the face of the ungodly?

٣١ 31 «هَلْ تَرْبِطُ أَنْتَ عُقْدَ ٱلثُّرَيَّا، أَوْ تَفُكُّ رُبُطَ ٱلْجَبَّارِ؟

And do you understand the band of Pleias, and have you opened the barrier of Orion?

٣٢ 32 أَتُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَنَازِلَ فِي أَوْقَاتِهَا وَتَهْدِي ٱلنَّعْشَ مَعَ بَنَاتِهِ؟

Or will you reveal Mazuroth in his season, and the evening star with his rays? Will you guide them?

٣٣ 33 هَلْ عَرَفْتَ سُنَنَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ، أَوْ جَعَلْتَ تَسَلُّطَهَا عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ؟

And know you the changes of heaven, or the events which take place together under heaven?

٣٤ 34 أَتَرْفَعُ صَوْتَكَ إِلَى ٱلسُّحُبِ فَيُغَطِّيَكَ فَيْضُ ٱلْمِيَاهِ؟

And will you call a cloud with your voice, and will it obey you with a violent shower of much rain?

٣٥ 35 أَتُرْسِلُ ٱلْبُرُوقَ فَتَذْهَبَ وَتَقُولَ لَكَ: هَا نَحْنُ؟

And will you send lightnings, and they shall go? and shall they say to you, What is [your pleasure]?

٣٦ 36 مَنْ وَضَعَ فِي ٱلطَّخَاءِ حِكْمَةً، أَوْ مَنْ أَظْهَرَ فِي ٱلشُّهُبِ فِطْنَةً؟

And who has given to women skill in weaving, or knowledge of embroidery?

٣٧ 37 مَنْ يُحْصِي ٱلْغُيُومَ بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ، وَمَنْ يَسْكُبُ أَزْقَاقَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ،

And who is he that numbers the clouds in wisdom, and has bowed the heaven [down] to the earth?

٣٨ 38 إِذْ يَنْسَبِكُ ٱلتُّرَابُ سَبْكًا وَيَتَلَاصَقُ ٱلْمَدَرُ؟

For it is spread out as dusty earth, and I have cemented it as one hewn stone to another.

٣٩ 39 «أَتَصْطَادُ لِلَّبْوَةِ فَرِيسَةً، أَمْ تُشْبِعُ نَفْسَ ٱلْأَشْبَالِ،

And will you hunt a prey for the lions? and satisfy the desires of the serpents?

٤٠ 40 حِينَ تَجْرَمِزُّ فِي عِرِّيسِهَا وَتَجْلِسُ فِي عِيصِهَا لِلْكُمُونِ؟

For they fear in their lairs, and lying in wait couch in the woods.

٤١ 41 مَنْ يُهَيِّئُ لِلْغُرَابِ صَيْدَهُ، إِذْ تَنْعَبُ فِرَاخُهُ إِلَى ٱللهِ، وَتَتَرَدَّدُ لِعَدَمِ ٱلْقُوتِ؟

And who has prepared food for the raven? for its young ones wander and cry to the Lord, in search of food.
