أَيُّوبَ 35

١ 1 فَأَجَابَ أَلِيهُو وَقَالَ:

And Elius resumed and said,

٢ 2 «أَتَحْسِبُ هَذَا حَقًّا؟ قُلْتَ: أَنَا أَبَرُّ مِنَ ٱللهِ.

What is this that thou thinkest to be according to right? who art thou that thou hast said, I am righteous before the Lord?

٣ 3 لِأَنَّكَ قُلْتَ: مَاذَا يُفِيدُكَ؟ بِمَاذَا أَنْتَفِعُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ خَطِيَّتِي؟

I will answer thee, and thy three friends.

٤ 4 أَنَا أَرُدُّ عَلَيْكَ كَلَامًا، وَعَلَى أَصْحَابِكَ مَعَكَ.

Look up to the sky and see; and consider the clouds, how high [they are] above thee.

٥ 5 اُنْظُرْ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَأَبْصِرْ، وَلَاحِظِ ٱلْغَمَامَ. إِنَّهَا أَعْلَى مِنْكَ.

If thou hast sinned, what wilt thou do?

٦ 6 إِنْ أَخْطَأْتَ فَمَاذَا فَعَلْتَ بِهِ؟ وَإِنْ كَثَّرْتَ مَعَاصِيَكَ فَمَاذَا عَمِلْتَ لَهُ؟

and if too thou hast transgressed much, what canst thou perform?

٧ 7 إِنْ كُنْتَ بَارًّا فَمَاذَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ؟ أَوْ مَاذَا يَأْخُذُهُ مِنْ يَدِكَ؟

And suppose thou art righteous, what wilt thou give him? or what shall he receive of thy hand?

٨ 8 لِرَجُلٍ مِثْلِكَ شَرُّكَ، وَلِٱبْنِ آدَمَ بِرُّكَ.

Thy ungodliness [may affect] a man who is like to thee; or thy righteousness a son of man.

٩ 9 «مِنْ كَثْرَةِ ٱلْمَظَالِمِ يَصْرُخُونَ. يَسْتَغِيثُونَ مِنْ ذِرَاعِ ٱلْأَعِزَّاءِ.

They that are oppressed of a multitude will be ready to cry out; they will call for help because of the arm of many.

١٠ 10 وَلَمْ يَقُولُوا: أَيْنَ ٱللهُ صَانِعِي، مُؤْتِي ٱلْأَغَانِيِّ فِي ٱللَّيْلِ،

But none said, Where is God that made me, who appoints the night-watches;

١١ 11 ٱلَّذِي يُعَلِّمُنَا أَكْثَرَ مِنْ وُحُوشِ ٱلْأَرْضِ، وَيَجْعَلُنَا أَحْكَمَ مِنْ طُيُورِ ٱلسَّمَاءِ؟

who makes me to differ from the four-footed beasts of the earth, and from the birds of the sky?

١٢ 12 ثَمَّ يَصْرُخُونَ مِنْ كِبْرِيَاءِ ٱلْأَشْرَارِ وَلَا يَسْتَجِيبُ.

There they shall cry, and none shall hearken, even because of the insolence of wicked men.

١٣ 13 وَلَكِنَّ ٱللهَ لَا يَسْمَعُ كَذِبًا، وَٱلْقَدِيرُ لَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ.

For the Lord desires not to look on error, for he is the Almighty One.

١٤ 14 فَإِذَا قُلْتَ إِنَّكَ لَسْتَ تَرَاهُ، فَٱلدَّعْوَى قُدَّامَهُ، فَٱصْبِرْ لَهُ.

He beholds them that perform lawless deeds, and he will save me: and do thou plead before him, if thou canst praise him, as it is [possible] even now.

١٥ 15 وَأَمَّا ٱلْآنَ فَلِأَنَّ غَضَبَهُ لَا يُطَالِبُ، وَلَا يُبَالِي بِكَثْرَةِ ٱلزَّلَّاتِ،

For he is not [now] regarding his wrath, nor has he noticed severely any trespass.

١٦ 16 فَغَرَ أَيُّوبُ فَاهُ بِٱلْبَاطِلِ، وَكَبَّرَ ٱلْكَلَامَ بِلَا مَعْرِفَةٍ».

Yet Job vainly opens his mouth, in ignorance he multiplies words.
