أَيُّوبَ 28

١ 1 «لِأَنَّهُ يُوجَدُ لِلْفِضَّةِ مَعْدَنٌ، وَمَوْضِعٌ لِلذَّهَبِ حَيْثُ يُمَحِّصُونَهُ.

Siluer hath bigynnyngis of his veynes; and a place is to gold, in which it is wellid togidere.

٢ 2 ٱلْحَدِيدُ يُسْتَخْرَجُ مِنَ ٱلتُّرَابِ، وَٱلْحَجَرُ يَسْكُبُ نُحَاسًا.

Irun is takun fro erthe, and a stoon resolued, `ethir meltid, bi heete, is turned in to money.

٣ 3 قَدْ جَعَلَ لِلظُّلْمَةِ نَهَايَةً، وَإِلَى كُلِّ طَرَفٍ هُوَ يَفْحَصُ. حَجَرَ ٱلظُّلْمَةِ وَظِلَّ ٱلْمَوْتِ.

God hath set tyme to derknessis, and he biholdith the ende of alle thingis.

٤ 4 حَفَرَ مَنْجَمًا بَعِيدًا عَنِ ٱلسُّكَّانِ. بِلَا مَوْطِئٍ لِلْقَدَمِ، مُتَدَلِّينَ بَعِيدِينَ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ يَتَدَلْدَلُونَ.

Also a stronde departith a stoon of derknesse, and the schadewe of deth, fro the puple goynge in pilgrymage; it departith tho hillis, whiche the foot of a nedi man foryat, and hillis with out weie.

٥ 5 أَرْضٌ يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا ٱلْخُبْزُ، أَسْفَلُهَا يَنْقَلِبُ كَمَا بِٱلنَّارِ.

The erthe, wher of breed cam forth in his place, is destried bi fier.

٦ 6 حِجَارَتُهَا هِيَ مَوْضِعُ ٱلْيَاقُوتِ ٱلْأَزْرَقِ، وَفِيهَا تُرَابُ ٱلذَّهَبِ.

The place of saphir ben stoonys therof, and the clottis therof ben gold.

٧ 7 سَبِيلٌ لَمْ يَعْرِفْهُ كَاسِرٌ، وَلَمْ تُبْصِرْهُ عَيْنُ بَاشِقٍ،

A brid knewe not the weie, and the iye of a vultur, ethir rauenouse brid, bihelde it not.

٨ 8 وَلَمْ تَدُسْهُ أَجْرَاءُ ٱلسَّبْعِ، وَلَمْ يَعْدُهُ ٱلزَّائِرُ.

The sones of marchauntis tretiden not on it, and a lyonesse passide not therbi.

٩ 9 إِلَى ٱلصَّوَّانِ يَمُدُّ يَدَهُ. يَقْلِبُ ٱلْجِبَالَ مِنْ أُصُولِهَا.

God stretchide forth his hond to a flynt; he distriede hillis fro the rootis.

١٠ 10 يَنْقُرُ فِي ٱلصُّخُورِ سَرَبًا، وَعَيْنُهُ تَرَى كُلَّ ثَمِينٍ.

He hewide doun ryuers in stoonys; and his iye siy al precious thing.

١١ 11 يَمْنَعُ رَشْحَ ٱلْأَنْهَارِ، وَأَبْرَزَ ٱلْخَفِيَّاتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ.

And he souyte out the depthis of floodis; and he brouyte forth hid thingis in to liyt.

١٢ 12 «أَمَّا ٱلْحِكْمَةُ فَمِنْ أَيْنَ تُوجَدُ، وَأَيْنَ هُوَ مَكَانُ ٱلْفَهْمِ؟

But where is wisdom foundun, and which is the place of vndurstondyng?

١٣ 13 لَا يَعْرِفُ ٱلْإِنْسَانُ قِيمَتَهَا وَلَا تُوجَدُ فِي أَرْضِ ٱلْأَحْيَاءِ.

A man noot the prijs therof, nether it is foundun in the lond of men lyuynge swetli, `ether delicatli.

١٤ 14 ٱلْغَمْرُ يَقُولُ: لَيْسَتْ هِيَ فِيَّ، وَٱلْبَحْرُ يَقُولُ: لَيْسَتْ هِيَ عِنْدِي.

The depthe of watris seith, It is not in me; and the see spekith, It is not with me.

١٥ 15 لَا يُعْطَى ذَهَبٌ خَالِصٌ بَدَلَهَا، وَلَا تُوزَنُ فِضَّةٌ ثَمَنًا لَهَا.

Gold ful cleene schal not be youun for wisdom, nether siluer schal be weied in the chaungyng therof.

١٦ 16 لَا تُوزَنُ بِذَهَبِ أُوفِيرَ أَوْ بِٱلْجَزْعِ ٱلْكَرِيمِ أَوِ ٱلْيَاقُوتِ ٱلْأَزْرَقِ.

It schal not be comparysound to the died colours of Iynde, not to the moost preciouse stoon of sardius, nether to saphir.

١٧ 17 لَا يُعَادِلُهَا ٱلذَّهَبُ وَلَا ٱلزُّجَاجُ، وَلَا تُبْدَلُ بِإِنَاءِ ذَهَبٍ إِبْرِيزٍ.

Nether gold, nether glas schal be maad euene worth therto;

١٨ 18 لَا يُذْكَرُ ٱلْمَرْجَانُ أَوِ ٱلْبَلُّوْرُ، وَتَحْصِيلُ ٱلْحِكْمَةِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ ٱللَّآلِئِ.

and hiye and fer apperynge vessels of gold schulen not be chaungid for wisdom, nether schulen be had in mynde in comparisoun therof. Forsothe wisdom is drawun of pryuy thingis;

١٩ 19 لَا يُعَادِلُهَا يَاقُوتُ كُوشَ ٱلْأَصْفَرُ، وَلَا تُوزَنُ بِٱلذَّهَبِ ٱلْخَالِصِ.

topasie of Ethiope schal not be maad euene worth to wisdom, and moost preciouse diyngis schulen not be set togidere in prijs, `ether comparisound, therto.

٢٠ 20 «فَمِنْ أَيْنَ تَأْتِي ٱلْحِكْمَةُ، وَأَيْنَ هُوَ مَكَانُ ٱلْفَهْمِ؟

Therfor wherof cometh wisdom, and which is the place of vndurstondyng?

٢١ 21 إِذْ أُخْفِيَتْ عَنْ عُيُونِ كُلِّ حَيٍّ، وَسُتِرَتْ عَنْ طَيْرِ ٱلسَّمَاءِ.

It is hid fro the iyen of alle lyuynge men; also it is hid fro briddis of heuene.

٢٢ 22 اَلْهَلَاكُ وَٱلْمَوْتُ يَقُولَانِ: بِآذَانِنَا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا خَبَرَهَا.

Perdicioun and deeth seiden, With oure eeris we herden the fame therof.

٢٣ 23 ٱللهُ يَفْهَمُ طَرِيقَهَا، وَهُوَ عَالِمٌ بِمَكَانِهَا.

God vndurstondith the weye therof, and he knowith the place therof.

٢٤ 24 لِأَنَّهُ هُوَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَقَاصِي ٱلْأَرْضِ. تَحْتَ كُلِّ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ يَرَى.

For he biholdith the endis of the world, and biholdith alle thingis that ben vndur heuene.

٢٥ 25 لِيَجْعَلَ لِلرِّيحِ وَزْنًا، وَيُعَايِرَ ٱلْمِيَاهَ بِمِقْيَاسٍ.

`Which God made weiyte to wyndis, and weiede watris in mesure.

٢٦ 26 لَمَّا جَعَلَ لِلْمَطَرِ فَرِيضَةً، وَمَذْهَبًا لِلصَّوَاعِقِ،

Whanne he settide lawe to reyn, and weie to tempestis sownynge;

٢٧ 27 حِينَئِذٍ رَآهَا وَأَخْبَرَ بِهَا، هَيَّأَهَا وَأَيْضًا بَحَثَ عَنْهَا،

thanne he siy wisdom, and telde out, and made redi, and souyte out.

٢٨ 28 وَقَالَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ: هُوَذَا مَخَافَةُ ٱلرَّبِّ هِيَ ٱلْحِكْمَةُ، وَٱلْحَيَدَانُ عَنِ ٱلشَّرِّ هُوَ ٱلْفَهْمُ».

And he seide to man, Lo! the drede of the Lord, thilke is wisdom; and to go awei fro yuel, is vndurstondyng.
