إِشَعْيَاءَ 30

١ 1 «وَيْلٌ لِلْبَنِينَ ٱلْمُتَمَرِّدِينَ، يَقُولُ ٱلرَّبُّ، حَتَّى أَنَّهُمْ يُجْرُونَ رَأْيًا وَلَيْسَ مِنِّي، وَيَسْكُبُونَ سَكِيبًا وَلَيْسَ بِرُوحِي، لِيَزِيدُوا خَطِيئَةً عَلَى خَطِيئَةٍ.

“Woe to the rebellious children,” says Adonai, “who take counsel, but not from me; and who make an alliance, but not with my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin,

٢ 2 ٱلَّذِينَ يَذْهَبُونَ لِيَنْزِلُوا إِلَى مِصْرَ وَلَمْ يَسْأَلُوا فَمِي، لِيَلْتَجِئُوا إِلَى حِصْنِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَيَحْتَمُوا بِظِلِّ مِصْرَ.

who set out to go down into Egypt [Abode of slavery], and have not asked my advice; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt [Abode of slavery]!

٣ 3 فَيَصِيرُ لَكُمْ حِصْنُ فِرْعَوْنَ خَجَلًا، وَٱلِٱحْتِمَاءُ بِظِلِّ مِصْرَ خِزْيًا.

Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt [Abode of slavery] your confusion.

٤ 4 لِأَنَّ رُؤَسَاءَهُ صَارُوا فِي صُوعَنَ، وَبَلَغَ رُسُلُهُ إِلَى حَانِيسَ.

For their princes are at Zoan, and their ambassadors have come to Hanes.

٥ 5 قَدْ خَجِلَ ٱلْجَمِيعُ مِنْ شَعْبٍ لَا يَنْفَعُهُمْ. لَيْسَ لِلْمَعُونَةِ وَلَا لِلْمَنْفَعَةِ، بَلْ لِلْخَجَلِ وَلِلْخِزْيِ».

They shall all be ashamed because of a people that can’t profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.”

٦ 6 وَحْيٌ مِنْ جِهَةِ بَهَائِمِ ٱلْجَنُوبِ: فِي أَرْضِ شِدَّةٍ وَضِيقَةٍ، مِنْهَا ٱللَّبْوَةُ وَٱلْأَسَدُ، ٱلْأَفْعَى وَٱلثُّعْبَانُ ٱلسَّامُّ ٱلطَّيَّارُ، يَحْمِلُونَ عَلَى أَكْتَافِ ٱلْحَمِيرِ ثَرْوَتَهُمْ، وَعَلَى أَسْنِمَةِ ٱلْجِمَالِ كُنُوزَهُمْ، إِلَى شَعْبٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ.

The burden of the animals of the South. Through the land of trouble and anguish, of the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches on the shoulders of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to an unprofitable people.

٧ 7 فَإِنَّ مِصْرَ تُعِينُ بَاطِلًا وَعَبَثًا، لِذَلِكَ دَعَوْتُهَا «رَهَبَ ٱلْجُلُوسِ».

For Egypt [Abode of slavery] helps in vain, and to no purpose; therefore have I called her Rahab who sits still.

٨ 8 تَعَالَ ٱلْآنَ ٱكْتُبْ هَذَا عِنْدَهُمْ عَلَى لَوْحٍ وَٱرْسُمْهُ فِي سِفْرٍ، لِيَكُونَ لِزَمَنٍ آتٍ لِلْأَبَدِ إِلَى ٱلدُّهُورِ.

Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever.

٩ 9 لِأَنَّهُ شَعْبٌ مُتَمَرِّدٌ، أَوْلَادٌ كَذَبَةٌ، أَوْلَادٌ لَمْ يَشَاءُوا أَنْ يَسْمَعُوا شَرِيعَةَ ٱلرَّبِّ.

For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not sh'ma ·hear obey· Adonai’s Torah ·Teaching·;

١٠ 10 ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لِلرَّائِينَ: «لَا تَرَوْا»، وَلِلنَّاظِرِينَ: «لَا تَنْظُرُوا لَنَا مُسْتَقِيمَاتٍ. كَلِّمُونَا بِٱلنَّاعِمَاتِ. ٱنْظُرُوا مُخَادِعَاتٍ.

who tell the seers, “Don’t see!” and to the prophets, “Don’t prophesy to us right things. Tell us pleasant things. Prophesy deceits.

١١ 11 حِيدُوا عَنِ ٱلطَّرِيقِ. مِيلُوا عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ. ٱعْزِلُوا مِنْ أَمَامِنَا قُدُّوسَ إِسْرَائِيلَ».

Get out of the way. Turn aside from the path. Cause the haKadosh Isra'el [the Holy One of God prevails] to cease from before us.”

١٢ 12 لِذَلِكَ هَكَذَا يَقُولُ قُدُّوسُ إِسْرَائِيلَ: «لِأَنَّكُمْ رَفَضْتُمْ هَذَا ٱلْقَوْلَ وَتَوَكَّلْتُمْ عَلَى ٱلظُّلْمِ وَٱلِٱعْوِجَاجِ وَٱسْتَنَدْتُمْ عَلَيْهِمَا،

Therefore thus says the haKadosh Isra'el [the Holy One of God prevails], “Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on it;

١٣ 13 لِذَلِكَ يَكُونُ لَكُمْ هَذَا ٱلْإِثْمُ كَصَدْعٍ مُنْقَضٍّ نَاتِئٍ فِي جِدَارٍ مُرْتَفِعٍ، يَأْتِي هَدُّهُ بَغْتَةً فِي لَحْظَةٍ.

therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly in an instant.

١٤ 14 وَيُكْسَرُ كَكَسْرِ إِنَاءِ ٱلْخَزَّافِينَ، مَسْحُوقًا بِلَا شَفَقَةٍ، حَتَّى لَا يُوجَدُ فِي مَسْحُوقِهِ شَقَفَةٌ لِأَخْذِ نَارٍ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْقَدَةِ، أَوْ لِغَرْفِ مَاءٍ مِنَ ٱلْجُبِّ».

He will break it as a potter’s vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing, so that there won’t be found among the broken piece a piece good enough to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.”

١٥ 15 لِأَنَّهُ هَكَذَا قَالَ ٱلسَّيِّدُ ٱلرَّبُّ قُدُّوسُ إِسْرَائِيلَ: «بِٱلرُّجُوعِ وَٱلسُّكُونِ تَخْلُصُونَ. بِٱلْهُدُوءِ وَٱلطُّمَأْنِينَةِ تَكُونُ قُوَّتُكُمْ». فَلَمْ تَشَاءُوا.

For thus said the Lord Adonai, the haKadosh Isra'el [the Holy One of God prevails], “You will be saved in making teshuvah ·complete return· and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence.” You refused,

١٦ 16 وَقُلْتُمْ: «لَا بَلْ عَلَى خَيْلٍ نَهْرُبُ». لِذَلِكَ تَهْرُبُونَ. «وَعَلَى خَيْلٍ سَرِيعَةٍ نَرْكَبُ». لِذَلِكَ يُسْرُعُ طَارِدُوكُمْ.

but you said, “No, for we will flee on horses;” therefore you will flee; and, “We will ride on the swift;” therefore those who pursue you will be swift.

١٧ 17 يَهْرُبُ أَلْفٌ مِنْ زَجْرَةِ وَاحِدٍ. مِنْ زَجْرَةِ خَمْسَةٍ تَهْرُبُونَ، حَتَّى أَنَّكُمْ تَبْقُونَ كَسَارِيَةٍ عَلَى رَأْسِ جَبَلٍ، وَكَرَايَةٍ عَلَى أَكَمَةٍ.

One thousand will flee at the threat of one. At the threat of five, you will flee until you are left like a beacon on the top of a mountain, and like a banner on a hill.

١٨ 18 وَلِذَلِكَ يَنْتَظِرُ ٱلرَّبُّ لِيَتَرَاءَفَ عَلَيْكُمْ. وَلِذَلِكَ يَقُومُ لِيَرْحَمَكُمْ، لِأَنَّ ٱلرَّبَّ إِلَهُ حَقٍّ. طُوبَى لِجَمِيعِ مُنْتَظِرِيهِ.

Therefore Adonai will wait, that he may be gracious to you; and therefore he will be exalted, that he may have racham ·merciful love· on you, for Adonai is a God of mishpat ·justice·. Blessed are all those who wait for him.

١٩ 19 لِأَنَّ ٱلشَّعْبَ فِي صِهْيَوْنَ يَسْكُنُ فِي أُورُشَلِيمَ. لَا تَبْكِي بُكَاءً. يَتَرَاءَفُ عَلَيْكَ عِنْدَ صَوْتِ صُرَاخِكَ. حِينَمَا يَسْمَعُ يَسْتَجِيبُ لَكَ.

For the people will dwell in Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking] at Jerusalem [City of peace]. You will weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the voice of your cry. When he sh'ma ·hears obeys· you, he will answer you.

٢٠ 20 وَيُعْطِيكُمُ ٱلسَّيِّدُ خُبْزًا فِي ٱلضِّيقِ وَمَاءً فِي ٱلشِّدَّةِ. لَا يَخْتَبِئُ مُعَلِّمُوكَ بَعْدُ، بَلْ تَكُونُ عَيْنَاكَ تَرَيَانِ مُعَلِّمِيكَ،

Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers won’t be hidden any more, but your eyes will see your teachers;

٢١ 21 وَأُذُنَاكَ تَسْمَعَانِ كَلِمَةً خَلْفَكَ قَائِلَةً: «هَذِهِ هِيَ ٱلطَّرِيقُ. ٱسْلُكُوا فِيهَا». حِينَمَا تَمِيلُونَ إِلَى ٱلْيَمِينِ وَحِينَمَا تَمِيلُونَ إِلَى ٱلْيَسَارِ.

and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will sh'ma ·hear obey· a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”

٢٢ 22 وَتُنَجِّسُونَ صَفَائِحَ تَمَاثِيلِ فِضَّتِكُمُ ٱلْمَنْحُوتَةِ، وَغِشَاءَ تِمْثَالِ ذَهَبِكُمُ ٱلْمَسْبُوكِ. تَطْرَحُهَا مِثْلَ فِرْصَةِ حَائِضٍ. تَقُولُ لَهَا: «ٱخْرُجِي».

You shall defile the overlaying of your engraved images of silver, and the plating of your molten images of gold. You shall cast them away as an unclean thing. You shall tell it, “Go away!”

٢٣ 23 ثُمَّ يُعْطِي مَطَرَ زَرْعِكَ ٱلَّذِي تَزْرَعُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِهِ، وَخُبْزَ غَلَّةِ ٱلْأَرْضِ، فَيَكُونُ دَسَمًا وَسَمِينًا، وَتَرْعَى مَاشِيَتُكَ فِي ذَلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمِ فِي مَرْعًى وَاسِعٍ.

He will give the rain for your seed, with which you will sow the ground; and bread of the increase of the ground will be rich and plentiful. In that day, your livestock will feed in large pastures.

٢٤ 24 وَٱلْأَبْقَارُ وَٱلْحَمِيرُ ٱلَّتِي تَعْمَلُ ٱلْأَرْضَ تَأْكُلُ عَلَفًا مُمَلَّحًا مُذَرَّى بِٱلْمِنْسَفِ وَٱلْمِذْرَاةِ.

The oxen likewise and the young donkeys that till the ground will eat savory feed, which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork.

٢٥ 25 وَيَكُونُ عَلَى كُلِّ جَبَلٍ عَالٍ وَعَلَى كُلِّ أَكَمَةٍ مُرْتَفِعَةٍ سَوَاقٍ وَمَجَارِي مِيَاهٍ فِي يَوْمِ ٱلْمَقْتَلَةِ ٱلْعَظِيمَةِ، حِينَمَا تَسْقُطُ ٱلْأَبْرَاجُ.

There shall be brooks and streams of water on every lofty mountain and on every high hill in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

٢٦ 26 وَيَكُونُ نُورُ ٱلْقَمَرِ كَنُورِ ٱلشَّمْسِ، وَنُورُ ٱلشَّمْسِ يَكُونُ سَبْعَةَ أَضْعَافٍ كَنُورِ سَبْعَةِ أَيَّامٍ، فِي يَوْمٍ يَجْبُرُ ٱلرَّبُّ كَسْرَ شَعْبِهِ وَيَشْفِي رَضَّ ضَرْبِهِ.

Moreover the light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, in the day that Adonai binds up the fracture of his people, and heals the wound they were struck with.

٢٧ 27 هُوَذَا ٱسْمُ ٱلرَّبِّ يَأْتِي مِنْ بَعِيدٍ. غَضَبُهُ مُشْتَعِلٌ وَٱلْحَرِيقُ عَظِيمٌ. شَفَتَاهُ مُمْتَلِئَتَانِ سَخَطًا، وَلِسَانُهُ كَنَارٍ آكِلَةٍ،

Behold, Adonai’s name comes from far away, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke. His lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire.

٢٨ 28 وَنَفْخَتُهُ كَنَهْرٍ غَامِرٍ يَبْلُغُ إِلَى ٱلرَّقَبَةِ. لِغَرْبَلَةِ ٱلْأُمَمِ بِغُرْبَالِ ٱلسُّوءِ، وَعَلَى فُكُوكِ ٱلشُّعُوبِ رَسَنٌ مُضِلٌّ.

His breath is as an overflowing stream that reaches even to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction; and a bridle that leads to ruin will be in the jaws of the peoples.

٢٩ 29 تَكُونُ لَكُمْ أُغْنِيَّةٌ كَلَيْلَةِ تَقْدِيسِ عِيدٍ، وَفَرَحُ قَلْبٍ كَٱلسَّائِرِ بِٱلنَّايِ، لِيَأْتِيَ إِلَى جَبَلِ ٱلرَّبِّ، إِلَى صَخْرِ إِسْرَائِيلَ.

You will have a song, as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a flute to come to Adonai’s mountain, to Israel [God prevails]’s Rock.

٣٠ 30 وَيُسَمِّعُ ٱلرَّبُّ جَلَالَ صَوْتِهِ، وَيُرِي نُزُولَ ذِرَاعِهِ بِهَيَجَانِ غَضَبٍ وَلَهِيبِ نَارٍ آكِلَةٍ، نَوْءٍ وَسَيْلٍ وَحِجَارَةِ بَرَدٍ.

Adonai will cause his glorious voice to be sh'ma ·heard obeyed·, and will show the descent of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, storm, and hailstones.

٣١ 31 لِأَنَّهُ مِنْ صَوْتِ ٱلرَّبِّ يَرْتَاعُ أَشُّورُ. بِٱلْقَضِيبِ يَضْرِبُ.

For through Adonai’s voice the Assyrian will be dismayed. He will strike him with his rod.

٣٢ 32 وَيَكُونُ كُلُّ مُرُورِ عَصَا ٱلْقَضَاءِ ٱلَّتِي يُنْزِلُهَا ٱلرَّبُّ عَلَيْهِ بِٱلدُّفُوفِ وَٱلْعِيدَانِ. وَبِحُرُوبٍ ثَائِرَةٍ يُحَارِبُهُ.

Every stroke of the rod of punishment, which Adonai will lay on him, will be with the sound of tambourines and harps. He will fight with them in battles, brandishing weapons.

٣٣ 33 لِأَنَّ «تُفْتَةَ» مُرَتَّبَةٌ مُنْذُ ٱلْأَمْسِ، مُهَيَّأَةٌ هِيَ أَيْضًا لِلْمَلِكِ، عَمِيقَةٌ وَاسِعَةٌ، كُومَتُهَا نَارٌ وَحَطَبٌ بِكَثْرَةٍ. نَفْخَةُ ٱلرَّبِّ كَنَهْرِ كِبْرِيتٍ تُوقِدُهَا.

For Tophet (Place of fiery torment for the dead, located in Gehenna), his burning place, has long been ready. Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made its pyre deep and large with fire and much wood. Adonai’s breath, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
