اَلتَّثْنِيَة 27

١ 1 وَأَوْصَى مُوسَى وَشُيُوخُ إِسْرَائِيلَ ٱلشَّعْبَ قَائِلًا: «ٱحْفَظُوا جَمِيعَ ٱلْوَصَايَا ٱلَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ.

Moses/I, along with the other Israeli leaders, said this to the people: “Obey all the commandments that I am giving to you today.

٢ 2 فَيَوْمَ تَعْبُرُونَ ٱلْأُرْدُنَّ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلَّتِي يُعْطِيكَ ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُكَ، تُقِيمُ لِنَفْسِكَ حِجَارَةً كَبِيرَةً وَتَشِيدُهَا بِٱلشِّيدِ،

[Soon] you will cross the Jordan [River] and enter the land that Yahweh, the God whom our ancestors [worshiped], promised to give to you. There, in that very fertile [IDM] land on the [west] side of the Jordan [River], set up some large stones [on Ebal Mountain], and cover them with plaster. Then write on those stones all these laws and teachings/instructions.

٣ 3 وَتَكْتُبُ عَلَيْهَا جَمِيعَ كَلِمَاتِ هَذَا ٱلنَّامُوسِ، حِينَ تَعْبُرُ لِكَيْ تَدْخُلَ ٱلْأَرْضَ ٱلَّتِي يُعْطِيكَ ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُكَ، أَرْضًا تَفِيضُ لَبَنًا وَعَسَلًا، كَمَا قَالَ لَكَ ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُ آبَائِكَ.

٤ 4 حِينَ تَعْبُرُونَ ٱلْأُرْدُنَّ، تُقِيمُونَ هَذِهِ ٱلْحِجَارَةَ ٱلَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ فِي جَبَلِ عِيبَالَ، وَتُكَلِّسُهَا بِٱلْكِلْسِ.

٥ 5 وَتَبْنِي هُنَاكَ مَذْبَحًا لِلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكَ، مَذْبَحًا مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ لَا تَرْفَعْ عَلَيْهَا حَدِيدًا.

And build a stone altar there to offer sacrifices to Yahweh, but do not cut those stones with iron tools.

٦ 6 مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ صَحِيحَةٍ تَبْنِي مَذْبَحَ ٱلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكَ، وَتُصْعِدُ عَلَيْهِ مُحْرَقَاتٍ لِلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكَ.

The altar that you make to burn sacrifices to Yahweh our God must be made with uncut stones.

٧ 7 وَتَذْبَحُ ذَبَائِحَ سَلَامَةٍ، وَتَأْكُلُ هُنَاكَ وَتَفْرَحُ أَمَامَ ٱلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكَ.

And there you must sacrifice offerings to maintain fellowship with Yahweh, and you must eat [your share of those offerings] and rejoice/celebrate in the presence of Yahweh.

٨ 8 وَتَكْتُبُ عَلَى ٱلْحِجَارَةِ جَمِيعَ كَلِمَاتِ هَذَا ٱلنَّامُوسِ نَقْشًا جَيِّدًا».

And, when you write these laws on those stones, you must write them very clearly.”

٩ 9 ثُمَّ كَلَّمَ مُوسَى وَٱلْكَهَنَةُ ٱللَّاوِيُّونَ جَمِيعَ إِسْرَائِيلَ قَائِلِينَ: «اِنْصِتْ وَٱسْمَعْ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ. ٱلْيَوْمَ صِرْتَ شَعْبًا لِلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكَ.

Then Moses/I, along with the priests, said to all the Israeli people, “You Israeli people, be quiet and listen [to what I am saying]. Today you have become the people who belong to Yahweh, our God.

١٠ 10 فَٱسْمَعْ لِصَوْتِ ٱلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكَ وَٱعْمَلْ بِوَصَايَاهُ وَفَرَائِضِهِ ٱلَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكَ بِهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ».

So, you must do what he tells you, and obey all the rules and regulations that I am giving to you today.”

١١ 11 وَأَوْصَى مُوسَى ٱلشَّعْبَ فِي ذَلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمِ قَائِلًا:

On that same day Moses/I said to the Israeli people,

١٢ 12 «هَؤُلَاءِ يَقِفُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ جِرِزِّيمَ لِكَيْ يُبَارِكُوا ٱلشَّعْبَ حِينَ تَعْبُرُونَ ٱلْأُرْدُنَّ: شِمْعُونُ وَلَاوِي وَيَهُوذَا وَيَسَّاكَرُ وَيُوسُفُ وَبَنْيَامِينُ.

“After you have crossed over the Jordan [River], the tribes of Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin must stand on Gerizim Mountain and [request Yahweh to] bless the people.

١٣ 13 وَهَؤُلَاءِ يَقِفُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ عِيبَالَ لِلَّعْنَةِ: رَأُوبَيْنُ وَجَادُ وَأَشِيرُ وَزَبُولُونُ وَدَانُ وَنَفْتَالِي.

And the tribes of Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali must stand on Ebal Mountain and listen to the things that Yahweh will do when he curses the people.

١٤ 14 فَيُصَرِّحُ ٱللَّاوِيُّونَ وَيَقُولُونَ لِجَمِيعِ قَوْمِ إِسْرَائِيلَ بِصَوْتٍ عَالٍ:

The descendants of Levi must shout these words loudly:

١٥ 15 مَلْعُونٌ ٱلْإِنْسَانُ ٱلَّذِي يَصْنَعُ تِمْثَالًا مَنْحُوتًا أَوْ مَسْبُوكًا، رِجْسًا لَدَى ٱلرَّبِّ عَمَلَ يَدَيْ نَحَّاتٍ، وَيَضَعُهُ فِي ٱلْخَفَاءِ. وَيُجِيبُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ وَيَقُولُونَ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who makes an idol of stone, or of wood, or of metal, and secretly sets it up [and worships it]. Yahweh considers that those things, made by humans [SYN], are detestable/disgusting.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

١٦ 16 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَسْتَخِفُّ بِأَبِيهِ أَوْ أُمِّهِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who dishonors his father or his mother.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

١٧ 17 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَنْقُلُ تُخْمَ صَاحِبِهِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who removes someone else’s markers of property boundaries.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

١٨ 18 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يُضِلُّ ٱلْأَعْمَى عَنِ ٱلطَّرِيقِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who leads a blind person to go (in the wrong direction/where that person does not want to go).’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

١٩ 19 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يُعَوِّجُ حَقَّ ٱلْغَرِيبِ وَٱلْيَتِيمِ وَٱلْأَرْمَلَةِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who deprives foreigners or orphans or widows of the things that the laws state must be done for them.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

٢٠ 20 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَضْطَجِعُ مَعَ ٱمْرَأَةِ أَبِيهِ، لِأَنَّهُ يَكْشِفُ ذَيْلَ أَبِيهِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who (shows no respect for/disgraces his father) by having sex with [EUP] any of his father’s wives.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

٢١ 21 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَضْطَجِعُ مَعَ بَهِيمَةٍ مَّا. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who has sex [EUP] with any animal.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

٢٢ 22 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَضْطَجِعُ مَعَ أُخْتِهِ بِنْتِ أَبِيهِ أَوْ بِنْتِ أُمِّهِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who has sex with his sister or with his half-sister.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

٢٣ 23 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَضْطَجِعُ مَعَ حَمَاتِهِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who has sex with [EUP] his mother-in-law.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

٢٤ 24 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَقْتُلُ قَرِيبَهُ فِي ٱلْخَفَاءِ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who secretly murders someone else.’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

٢٥ 25 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ يَأْخُذُ رَشْوَةً لِكَيْ يَقْتُلَ نَفْسَ دَمٍ بَرِيءٍ. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who accepts a bribe to murder someone who (is innocent/has not done something that is wrong.)’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’

٢٦ 26 مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ لَا يُقِيمُ كَلِمَاتِ هَذَا ٱلنَّامُوسِ لِيَعْمَلَ بِهَا. وَيَقُولُ جَمِيعُ ٱلشَّعْبِ: آمِينَ.

‘Yahweh will curse anyone who disobeys these laws and refuses to declare that these laws [are good].’ And all the people must reply, ‘(Amen/We want that to happen).’”
