أعمال 28

١ 1 وَلَمَّا نَجَوْا وَجَدُوا أَنَّ ٱلْجَزِيرَةَ تُدْعَى مَلِيطَةَ.

Following the rescue, they learned that the island was called Malta.

٢ 2 فَقَدَّمَ أَهْلُهَا ٱلْبَرَابِرَةُ لَنَا إِحْسَانًا غَيْرَ ٱلْمُعْتَادِ، لِأَنَّهُمْ أَوْقَدُوا نَارًا وَقَبِلُوا جَمِيعَنَا مِنْ أَجْلِ ٱلْمَطَرِ ٱلَّذِي أَصَابَنَا وَمِنْ أَجْلِ ٱلْبَرْدِ.

Now the natives showed us unusual kindness, in that they kindled a fire and welcomed us all, because it had begun to rain and was cold.

٣ 3 فَجَمَعَ بُولُسُ كَثِيرًا مِنَ ٱلْقُضْبَانِ وَوَضَعَهَا عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ، فَخَرَجَتْ مِنَ ٱلْحَرَارَةِ أَفْعَى وَنَشِبَتْ فِي يَدِهِ.

But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and placed them on the fire, because of the heat a viper came out and fastened itself on his hand.

٤ 4 فَلَمَّا رَأَى ٱلْبَرَابِرَةُ ٱلْوَحْشَ مُعَلَّقًا بِيَدِهِ، قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ: «لَا بُدَّ أَنَّ هَذَا ٱلْإِنْسَانَ قَاتِلٌ، لَمْ يَدَعْهُ ٱلْعَدْلُ يَحْيَا وَلَوْ نَجَا مِنَ ٱلْبَحْرِ».

So when the natives saw the beast hanging from his hand, they started saying to each other, “This man must be a murderer, whom Justice has not allowed to live, even though rescued from the sea.”

٥ 5 فَنَفَضَ هُوَ ٱلْوَحْشَ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ وَلَمْ يَتَضَرَّرْ بِشَيْءٍ رَدِيٍّ

But he just shook the beast off into the fire and suffered no harm.

٦ 6 وَأَمَّا هُمْ فَكَانُوا يَنْتَظِرُونَ أَنَّهُ عَتِيدٌ أَنْ يَنْتَفِخَ أَوْ يَسْقُطَ بَغْتَةً مَيْتًا. فَإِذِ ٱنْتَظَرُوا كَثِيرًا وَرَأَوْا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَعْرِضْ لَهُ شَيْءٌ مُضِرٌّ، تَغَيَّرُوا وَقَالُوا: «هُوَ إِلَهٌ!».

Well they were expecting him to swell up, or suddenly fall down dead; but after waiting for quite a while and seeing nothing unusual happening to him, they changed their mind and started saying he was a god.

٧ 7 وَكَانَ فِي مَا حَوْلَ ذَلِكَ ٱلْمَوْضِعِ ضِيَاعٌ لِمُقَدَّمِ ٱلْجَزِيرَةِ ٱلَّذِي ٱسْمُهُ بُوبْلِيُوسُ. فَهَذَا قَبِلَنَا وَأَضَافَنَا بِمُلَاطَفَةٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ.

Now in that region there were properties belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and in a friendly manner took care of us for three days.

٨ 8 فَحَدَثَ أَنَّ أَبَا بُوبْلِيُوسَ كَانَ مُضْطَجِعًا مُعْتَرًى بِحُمَّى وَسَحْجٍ. فَدَخَلَ إِلَيْهِ بُولُسُ وَصَلَّى، وَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَيْهِ فَشَفَاهُ.

Well it happened that the father of Publius was sick in bed with fever and dysentery; Paul went in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.

٩ 9 فَلَمَّا صَارَ هَذَا، كَانَ ٱلْبَاقُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ بِهِمْ أَمْرَاضٌ فِي ٱلْجَزِيرَةِ يَأْتُونَ وَيُشْفَوْنَ.

So, when this had happened, the rest of those on the island who had diseases started coming and being healed;

١٠ 10 فَأَكْرَمَنَا هَؤُلَاءِ إِكْرَامَاتٍ كَثِيرَةً. وَلَمَّا أَقْلَعْنَا زَوَّدُونَا مَا يُحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ.

who also honored us in many ways, and when we put to sea they provided the necessary things.

١١ 11 وَبَعْدَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَشْهُرٍ أَقْلَعْنَا فِي سَفِينَةٍ إِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةٍ مَوْسُومَةٍ بِعَلَامَةِ ٱلْجَوْزَاءِ، كَانَتْ قَدْ شَتَتْ فِي ٱلْجَزِيرَةِ.

Now after three months we put to sea in an Alexandrian ship that had wintered in the island, whose figurehead was ‘the Twin Brothers’.

١٢ 12 فَنَزَلْنَا إِلَى سِرَاكُوسَا وَمَكَثْنَا ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ.

We put in at Syracuse and stayed there three days;

١٣ 13 ثُمَّ مِنْ هُنَاكَ دُرْنَا وَأَقْبَلْنَا إِلَى رِيغِيُونَ. وَبَعْدَ يَوْمٍ وَاحِدٍ حَدَثَتْ رِيحٌ جَنُوبٌ، فَجِئْنَا فِي ٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلثَّانِي إِلَى بُوطِيُولِي،

from there we tacked back and forth and arrived at Rhegium. After one day a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli,

١٤ 14 حَيْثُ وَجَدْنَا إِخْوَةً فَطَلَبُوا إِلَيْنَا أَنْ نَمْكُثَ عِنْدَهُمْ سَبْعَةَ أَيَّامٍ. وَهَكَذَا أَتَيْنَا إِلَى رُومِيَةَ.

where we found brothers who urged us to stay there seven days—that was how we went toward Rome.

١٥ 15 وَمِنْ هُنَاكَ لَمَّا سَمِعَ ٱلْإِخْوَةُ بِخَبَرِنَا، خَرَجُوا لِٱسْتِقْبَالِنَا إِلَى فُورُنِ أَبِّيُوسَ وَٱلثَّلَاثَةِ ٱلْحَوَانِيتِ. فَلَمَّا رَآهُمْ بُولُسُ شَكَرَ ٱللهَ وَتَشَجَّعَ.

And the brothers there, when they heard about our circumstances, came out to meet us as far as Appii Forum and Three Inns. When Paul saw them he thanked God and took courage.

١٦ 16 وَلَمَّا أَتَيْنَا إِلَى رُومِيَةَ سَلَّمَ قَائِدُ ٱلْمِئَةِ ٱلْأَسْرَى إِلَى رَئِيسِ ٱلْمُعَسْكَرِ، وَأَمَّا بُولُسُ فَأُذِنَ لَهُ أَنْ يُقِيمَ وَحْدَهُ مَعَ ٱلْعَسْكَرِيِّ ٱلَّذِي كَانَ يَحْرُسُهُ.

Now when we entered Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the commander; but Paul was allowed to live by himself, with the soldier who guarded him.

١٧ 17 وَبَعْدَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ٱسْتَدْعَى بُولُسُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُوا وُجُوهَ ٱلْيَهُودِ. فَلَمَّا ٱجْتَمَعُوا قَالَ لَهُمْ: «أَيُّهَا ٱلرِّجَالُ ٱلْإِخْوَةُ، مَعَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَفْعَلْ شَيْئًا ضِدَّ ٱلشَّعْبِ أَوْ عَوَائِدِ ٱلْآبَاءِ، أُسْلِمْتُ مُقَيَّدًا مِنْ أُورُشَلِيمَ إِلَى أَيْدِي ٱلرُّومَانِيِّينَ،

It happened that after three days Paul called together the leaders of the Jews; and when they had assembled he said to them: “Men, brothers, though I had done nothing against ‘the people’ or the ancestral customs, still I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

١٨ 18 ٱلَّذِينَ لَمَّا فَحَصُوا كَانُوا يُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يُطْلِقُونِي، لِأَنَّهُ لَمْ تَكُنْ فِيَّ عِلَّةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ لِلْمَوْتِ.

who, when they had examined me, were intending to release me, because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death.

١٩ 19 وَلَكِنْ لَمَّا قَاوَمَ ٱلْيَهُودُ، ٱضْطُرِرْتُ أَنْ أَرْفَعَ دَعْوَايَ إِلَى قَيْصَرَ، لَيْسَ كَأَنَّ لِي شَيْئًا لِأَشْتَكِيَ بِهِ عَلَى أُمَّتِي.

But when the Jews spoke against it, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar; not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.

٢٠ 20 فَلِهَذَا ٱلسَّبَبِ طَلَبْتُكُمْ لِأَرَاكُمْ وَأُكَلِّمَكُمْ، لِأَنِّي مِنْ أَجْلِ رَجَاءِ إِسْرَائِيلَ مُوثَقٌ بِهَذِهِ ٱلسِّلْسِلَةِ».

For this reason therefore I asked to see you and speak with you; it is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.”

٢١ 21 فَقَالُوا لَهُ: «نَحْنُ لَمْ نَقْبَلْ كِتَابَاتٍ فِيكَ مِنَ ٱلْيَهُودِيَّةِ، وَلَا أَحَدٌ مِنَ ٱلْإِخْوَةِ جَاءَ فَأَخْبَرَنَا أَوْ تَكَلَّمَ عَنْكَ بِشَيْءٍ رَدِيٍّ.

So they said to him: “We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brothers who came reported or spoken any evil about you.

٢٢ 22 وَلَكِنَّنَا نَسْتَحْسِنُ أَنْ نَسْمَعَ مِنْكَ مَاذَا تَرَى، لِأَنَّهُ مَعْلُومٌ عِنْدَنَا مِنْ جِهَةِ هَذَا ٱلْمَذْهَبِ أَنَّهُ يُقَاوَمُ فِي كُلِّ مَكَانٍ».

But we desire to hear from you what you think; because as for this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere.”

٢٣ 23 فَعَيَّنُوا لَهُ يَوْمًا، فَجَاءَ إِلَيْهِ كَثِيرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَنْزِلِ، فَطَفِقَ يَشْرَحُ لَهُمْ شَاهِدًا بِمَلَكُوتِ ٱللهِ، وَمُقْنِعًا إِيَّاهُمْ مِنْ نَامُوسِ مُوسَى وَٱلْأَنْبِيَاءِ بِأَمْرِ يَسُوعَ، مِنَ ٱلصَّبَاحِ إِلَى ٱلْمَسَاءِ.

So arranging a day with him, even more people came to him at his lodging, to whom he kept expounding from morning until evening: solemnly testifying about the Kingdom of God and trying to convince them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets.

٢٤ 24 فَٱقْتَنَعَ بَعْضُهُمْ بِمَا قِيلَ، وَبَعْضُهُمْ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا.

Well some were persuaded by what had been said, and some kept refusing to believe.

٢٥ 25 فَٱنْصَرَفُوا وَهُمْ غَيْرُ مُتَّفِقِينَ بَعْضُهُمْ مَعَ بَعْضٍ، لَمَّا قَالَ بُولُسُ كَلِمَةً وَاحِدَةً: «إِنَّهُ حَسَنًا كَلَّمَ ٱلرُّوحُ ٱلْقُدُسُ آبَاءَنَا بِإِشَعْيَاءَ ٱلنَّبِيِّ

So being in disagreement among themselves they started to leave, after Paul had said this one word: “The Holy Spirit spoke correctly to our fathers through Isaiah the prophet,

٢٦ 26 قَائِلًا: ٱذْهَبْ إِلَى هَذَا ٱلشَّعْبِ وَقُلْ: سَتَسْمَعُونَ سَمْعًا وَلَا تَفْهَمُونَ، وَسَتَنْظُرُونَ نَظَرًا وَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ.

saying: ‘Go to this people and say, “You will keep on hearing, but never understand; you will keep on seeing, but never perceive”;

٢٧ 27 لِأَنَّ قَلْبَ هَذَا ٱلشَّعْبِ قَدْ غَلُظَ، وَبِآذَانِهِمْ سَمِعُوا ثَقِيلًا، وَأَعْيُنُهُمْ أَغْمَضُوهَا. لِئَلَّا يُبْصِرُوا بِأَعْيُنِهِمْ وَيَسْمَعُوا بِآذَانِهِمْ وَيَفْهَمُوا بِقُلُوبِهِمْ وَيَرْجِعُوا، فَأَشْفِيَهُمْ.

because the heart of this people has become sluggish, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; in order that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, nor turn back, so I could heal them.’

٢٨ 28 فَلْيَكُنْ مَعْلُومًا عِنْدَكُمْ أَنَّ خَلَاصَ ٱللهِ قَدْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَى ٱلْأُمَمِ، وَهُمْ سَيَسْمَعُونَ!».

Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen!”

٢٩ 29 وَلَمَّا قَالَ هَذَا مَضَى ٱلْيَهُودُ وَلَهُمْ مُبَاحَثَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُمْ.

And when he had said these things the Jews went their way, having a great dispute among themselves.

٣٠ 30 وَأَقَامَ بُولُسُ سَنَتَيْنِ كَامِلَتَينِ فِي بَيْتٍ ٱسْتَأْجَرَهُ لِنَفْسِهِ. وَكَانَ يَقْبَلُ جَمِيعَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْخُلُونَ إِلَيْهِ،

Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to see him,

٣١ 31 كَارِزًا بِمَلَكُوتِ ٱللهِ، وَمُعَلِّمًا بِأَمْرِ ٱلرَّبِّ يَسُوعَ ٱلْمَسِيحِ بِكُلِّ مُجَاهَرَةٍ، بِلَا مَانِعٍ.

proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, with all boldness, without hindrance.
