صَمُوئِيلَ ٱلْأَوَّلُ 3

١ 1 وَكَانَ ٱلصَّبِيُّ صَمُوئِيلُ يَخْدِمُ ٱلرَّبَّ أَمَامَ عَالِي. وَكَانَتْ كَلِمَةُ ٱلرَّبِّ عَزِيزَةً فِي تِلْكَ ٱلْأَيَّامِ. لَمْ تَكُنْ رُؤْيَا كَثِيرًا.

Now, the boy Samuel, was ministering unto Yahweh, before Eli, —and, the word of Yahweh, had become rare in those days, there was no well-known vision.

٢ 2 وَكَانَ فِي ذَلِكَ ٱلزَّمَانِ إِذْ كَانَ عَالِي مُضْطَجِعًا فِي مَكَانِهِ وَعَيْنَاهُ ٱبْتَدَأَتَا تَضْعُفَانِ لَمْ يَقْدِرْ أَنْ يُبْصِرَ.

But it came to pass, at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place, his eyes, having begun to be dim, he could not see,

٣ 3 وَقَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْطَفِئَ سِرَاجُ ٱللهِ، وَصَمُوئِيلُ مُضْطَجعٌ فِي هَيْكَلِ ٱلرَّبِّ ٱلَّذِي فِيهِ تَابُوتُ ٱللهِ،

though, the lamp of God, was not yet to be put out, and, Samuel, was lying down in the temple of Yahweh, where was the ark of God,

٤ 4 أَنَّ ٱلرَّبَّ دَعَا صَمُوئِيلَ، فَقَالَ: «هَأَنَذَا».

that Yahweh called unto Samuel, and he said—Behold me!

٥ 5 وَرَكَضَ إِلَى عَالِي وَقَالَ: «هَأَنَذَا لِأَنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنِي». فَقَالَ: «لَمْ أَدْعُ. ٱرْجعِ ٱضْطَجِعْ». فَذَهَبَ وَٱضْطَجَعَ.

So he ran unto Eli and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, return—Its down. So he went, and lie down.

٦ 6 ثُمَّ عَادَ ٱلرَّبُّ وَدَعَا أَيْضًا صَمُوئِيلَ. فَقَامَ صَمُوئِيلُ وَذَهَبَ إِلَى عَالِي وَقَالَ: «هَأَنَذَا لِأَنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنِي». فَقَالَ: «لَمْ أَدْعُ يَاٱبْنِي. ٱرْجعِ ٱضْطَجِعْ».

And again Yahweh called once there—Samuel! Then rose Samuel, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, my son, return—lie down.

٧ 7 وَلَمْ يَعْرِفْ صَمُوئِيلُ ٱلرَّبَّ بَعْدُ، وَلَا أُعْلِنَ لَهُ كَلَامُ ٱلرَّبِّ بَعْدُ.

Now, Samuel, as yet knew not Yahweh, —nor, as yet, had been revealed unto him, the word of Yahweh.

٨ 8 وَعَادَ ٱلرَّبُّ فَدَعَا صَمُوئِيلَ ثَالِثَةً. فَقَامَ وَذَهَبَ إِلَى عَالِي وَقَالَ: «هَأَنَذَا لِأَنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنِي». فَفَهِمَ عَالِي أَنَّ ٱلرَّبَّ يَدْعُو ٱلصَّبِيَّ.

And again Yahweh called—Samuel! a third time. Then he arose, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. Then did Eli perceive, that, Yahweh, was calling the boy.

٩ 9 فَقَالَ عَالِي لِصَمُوئِيلَ: «ٱذْهَبِ ٱضْطَجِعْ، وَيَكُونُ إِذَا دَعَاكَ تَقُولُ: تَكَلَّمْ يَارَبُّ لِأَنَّ عَبْدَكَ سَامِعٌ». فَذَهَبَ صَمُوئِيلُ وَٱضْطَجَعَ فِي مَكَانِهِ.

So Eli said to Samuel—Go, lie down, and it shall be, if he call unto thee, that thou shalt say—Speak, Yahweh, for thy servant is listening. And Samuel went, and lay down in his place.

١٠ 10 فَجَاءَ ٱلرَّبُّ وَوَقَفَ وَدَعَا كَٱلْمَرَّاتِ ٱلْأُوَلِ: «صَمُوئِيلُ، صَمُوئِيلُ». فَقَالَ صَمُوئِيلُ: «تَكَلَّمْ لِأَنَّ عَبْدَكَ سَامِعٌ».

Then came Yahweh, and stood, and called as time after time—Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant is listening.

١١ 11 فَقَالَ ٱلرَّبُّ لِصَمُوئِيلَ: «هُوَذَا أَنَا فَاعِلٌ أَمْرًا فِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كُلُّ مَنْ سَمِعَ بِهِ تَطِنُّ أُذُنَاهُ.

And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Lo! I am doing a thing, in Israel, —at which both ears of everyone that heareth it shall tingle.

١٢ 12 فِي ذَلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمِ أُقِيمُ عَلَى عَالِي كُلَّ مَا تَكَلَّمْتُ بِهِ عَلَى بَيْتِهِ. أَبْتَدِئُ وَأُكَمِّلُ.

In that day, will I confirm against Eli, all that I have spoken against his house, —beginning and finishing.

١٣ 13 وَقَدْ أَخْبَرْتُهُ بِأَنِّي أَقْضِي عَلَى بَيْتِهِ إِلَى ٱلْأَبَدِ مِنْ أَجْلِ ٱلشَّرِّ ٱلَّذِي يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ بَنِيهِ قَدْ أَوْجَبُوا بِهِ ٱللَّعْنَةَ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ، وَلَمْ يَرْدَعْهُمْ.

Therefore do I tell him, that I am about to judge his house unto times age-abiding, for the iniquity which he knoweth, in that his sons are cursing God, and he hath not rebuked them.

١٤ 14 وَلِذَلِكَ أَقْسَمْتُ لِبَيْتِ عَالِي أَنَّهُ لَا يُكَفَّرُ عَنْ شَرِّ بَيْتِ عَالِي بِذَبِيحَةٍ أَوْ بِتَقْدِمَةٍ إِلَى ٱلْأَبَدِ».

And therefore have I sworn, respecting the house of Eli, —that the iniquity of the house of Eli shall receive no propitiatory-covering, by sacrifice or by present, unto times age-abiding.

١٥ 15 وَٱضْطَجَعَ صَمُوئِيلُ إِلَى ٱلصَّبَاحِ، وَفَتَحَ أَبْوَابَ بَيْتِ ٱلرَّبِّ. وَخَافَ صَمُوئِيلُ أَنْ يُخْبِرَ عَالِيَ بِٱلرُّؤْيَا.

And Samuel lay until the morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Yahweh, —but, Samuel, feared to tell the appearing, unto Eli.

١٦ 16 فَدَعَا عَالِي صَمُوئِيلَ وَقَالَ: «يَاصَمُوئِيلُ ٱبْنِي» فَقَالَ: «هَأَنَذَا».

So Eli called Samuel, and said—Samuel! my son. And he said—Behold me!

١٧ 17 فَقَالَ: «مَاٱلْكَلَامُ ٱلَّذِي كَلَّمَكَ بِهِ؟ لَا تُخْفِ عَنِّي. هَكَذَا يَعْمَلُ لَكَ ٱللهُ وَهَكَذَا يَزِيدُ إِنْ أَخْفَيْتَ عَنِّي كَلِمَةً مِنْ كُلِّ ٱلْكَلَامِ ٱلَّذِي كَلَّمَكَ بِهِ».

And he said—What is the word, which he spake unto thee? I pray thee, do not hide it from me. So, let God do to thee, and, so, let him add, if thou hide from me a word, out of anything which he hath spoken unto thee.

١٨ 18 فَأَخْبَرَهُ صَمُوئِيلُ بِجَمِيعِ ٱلْكَلَامِ وَلَمْ يُخْفِ عَنْهُ. فَقَالَ: «هُوَ ٱلرَّبُّ. مَا يَحْسُنُ فِي عَيْنَيْهِ يَعْمَلُ».

So Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said, Yahweh, he is; what is good in his own eyes, let him do.

١٩ 19 وَكَبِرَ صَمُوئِيلُ وَكَانَ ٱلرَّبُّ مَعَهُ، وَلَمْ يَدَعْ شَيْئًا مِنْ جَمِيعِ كَلَامِهِ يَسْقُطُ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ.

And Samuel grew, —and, Yahweh, proved to he with him, and let none of all his words fall to the ground.

٢٠ 20 وَعَرَفَ جَمِيعُ إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنْ دَانَ إِلَى بِئْرِ سَبْعٍ أَنَّهُ قَدِ ٱؤْتُمِنَ صَمُوئِيلُ نَبِيًّا لِلرَّبِّ.

So all Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, came to know, —that Samuel had become confirmed as a prophet unto Yahweh.

٢١ 21 وَعَادَ ٱلرَّبُّ يَتَرَاءَى فِي شِيلُوهَ، لِأَنَّ ٱلرَّبَّ ٱسْتَعْلَنَ لِصَمُوئِيلَ فِي شِيلُوهَ بِكَلِمَةِ ٱلرَّبِّ.

Thus did Yahweh again appear in Shiloh, —for Yahweh had revealed himself unto Samuel in Shiloh, in the word of Yahweh.
