Acts 23
1 Paul, looking steadfastly at the council, said, “Brothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until today.”
Pablo, mirando fijamente al consejo, dijo: “Hermanos, hasta hoy he vivido ante Dios con toda la buena conciencia.”
2 The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.
El sumo sacerdote, Ananías, ordenó a los que estaban junto a él que le golpearan en la boca.
3 Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?”
Entonces Pablo le dijo: “¡Dios te va a golpear a ti, muro blanqueado! ¿Te sientas a juzgarme según la ley, y mandas que me golpeen en contra de la ley?”
4 Those who stood by said, “Do you malign God’s high priest?”
Los que estaban de pie dijeron: “¿Maltratas al sumo sacerdote de Dios?”
5 Paul said, “I didn’t know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”
Pablo dijo: “No sabía, hermanos, que era sumo sacerdote. Porque está escrito: ‘No hablarás mal de un gobernante de tu pueblo’”.
6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”
Pero cuando Pablo se dio cuenta de que una parte eran saduceos y la otra fariseos, gritó en el concilio: “Hombres y hermanos, yo soy fariseo, hijo de fariseos. En cuanto a la esperanza y la resurrección de los muertos estoy siendo juzgado”.
7 When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the crowd was divided.
Al decir esto, surgió una discusión entre fariseos y saduceos, y la multitud se dividió.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these.
Porque los saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángel, ni espíritu; pero los fariseos confiesan todo esto.
9 A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ part stood up, and contended, saying, “We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let’s not fight against God!”
Se armó un gran alboroto, y algunos de los escribas de la parte de los fariseos se levantaron y discutieron diciendo: “No encontramos ningún mal en este hombre. Pero si un espíritu o un ángel le ha hablado, ¡no luchemos contra Dios!”
10 When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them and bring him into the barracks.
Cuando se produjo una gran discusión, el oficial al mando, temiendo que Pablo fuera despedazado por ellos, ordenó a los soldados que bajaran y lo sacaran por la fuerza de entre ellos y lo llevaran al cuartel.
11 The following night, the Lord stood by him and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”
La noche siguiente, el Señor se puso a su lado y le dijo: “Anímate, Pablo, porque así como has dado testimonio de mí en Jerusalén, también debes darlo en Roma.”
12 When it was day, some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.
Cuando se hizo de día, algunos de los judíos se agruparon y se obligaron bajo una maldición, diciendo que no comerían ni beberían hasta que hubieran matado a Pablo.
13 There were more than forty people who had made this conspiracy.
Eran más de cuarenta los que habían hecho esta conspiración.
14 They came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, “We have bound ourselves under a great curse to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.
Se presentaron ante los jefes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos y dijeron: “Nos hemos obligado bajo una gran maldición a no probar nada hasta que hayamos matado a Pablo.
15 Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near.”
Ahora, pues, vosotros, con el consejo, informad al comandante para que lo haga bajar a vosotros mañana, como si fuerais a juzgar su caso con más exactitud. Estamos dispuestos a matarlo antes de que se acerque”.
16 But Paul’s sister’s son heard they were lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul.
Pero el hijo de la hermana de Pablo se enteró de que estaban al acecho y, entrando en el cuartel, se lo comunicó a Pablo.
17 Paul summoned one of the centurions and said, “Bring this young man to the commanding officer, for he has something to tell him.”
Pablo llamó a uno de los centuriones y le dijo: “Lleva a este joven ante el oficial al mando, porque tiene algo que decirle.”
18 So he took him and brought him to the commanding officer and said, “Paul, the prisoner, summoned me and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to tell you.”
Así que lo tomó y lo llevó al oficial al mando y le dijo: “Pablo, el prisionero, me convocó y me pidió que le trajera a este joven. Tiene algo que decirle”.
19 The commanding officer took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”
El comandante le tomó de la mano y, apartándose, le preguntó en privado: “¿Qué es lo que tienes que decirme?”.
20 He said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though intending to inquire somewhat more accurately concerning him.
Dijo: “Los judíos han acordado pedirte que mañana lleves a Pablo al consejo, como si tuvieran la intención de indagar algo más sobre él.
21 Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”
Por tanto, no cedas ante ellos, pues le acechan más de cuarenta hombres que se han obligado bajo maldición a no comer ni beber hasta que le hayan matado. Ahora están preparados, esperando la promesa de tu parte”.
22 So the commanding officer let the young man go, charging him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”
Entonces el comandante dejó ir al joven, encargándole: “No digas a nadie que me has revelado estas cosas”.
23 He called to himself two of the centurions, and said, “Prepare two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred men armed with spears, at the third hour of the night.”
Llamó a dos de los centuriones y les dijo: “Preparad doscientos soldados para ir hasta Cesarea, con setenta jinetes y doscientos hombres armados con lanzas, a la tercera hora de la noche.”
24 He asked them to provide mounts, that they might set Paul on one, and bring him safely to Felix the governor.
Les pidió que le proporcionaran monturas, para que montaran a Pablo en una de ellas y lo llevaran sano y salvo a Félix, el gobernador.
25 He wrote a letter like this:
Escribió una carta como ésta:
26 “Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix: Greetings.
“Claudio Lisias al excelentísimo gobernador Félix: Saludos.
27 “This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be killed by them when I came with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.
“Este hombre fue apresado por los judíos y estaba a punto de ser asesinado por ellos, cuando llegué con los soldados y lo rescaté, tras saber que era romano.
28 Desiring to know the cause why they accused him, I brought him down to their council.
Deseando saber la causa por la que lo acusaban, lo llevé a su consejo.
29 I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to be charged with anything worthy of death or of imprisonment.
Encontré que lo acusaban de cuestiones de su ley, pero no de nada digno de muerte o de prisión.
30 When I was told that the Jews lay in wait for the man, I sent him to you immediately, charging his accusers also to bring their accusations against him before you. Farewell.”
Cuando me dijeron que los judíos estaban al acecho del hombre, lo envié inmediatamente a ti, encargando también a sus acusadores que presentaran sus acusaciones contra él ante ti. Adiós”.
31 So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.
Así que los soldados, cumpliendo sus órdenes, tomaron a Pablo y lo llevaron de noche a Antipatris.
32 But on the next day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the barracks.
Pero al día siguiente dejaron a los jinetes que lo acompañaban y volvieron al cuartel.
33 When they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.
Cuando llegaron a Cesarea y entregaron la carta al gobernador, también le presentaron a Pablo.
34 When the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. When he understood that he was from Cilicia, he said,
Cuando el gobernador la leyó, le preguntó de qué provincia era. Al comprender que era de Cilicia, dijo:
35 “I will hear you fully when your accusers also arrive.” He commanded that he be kept in Herod’s palace.
“Te escucharé plenamente cuando lleguen también tus acusadores”. Y ordenó que lo recluyeran en el palacio de Herodes.
