Acts 23
1 Paul, looking steadfastly at the council, said, “Brothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until today.”
Paul, olhando com firmeza para o conselho, disse: “Irmãos, tenho vivido diante de Deus em toda boa consciência até hoje”.
2 The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.
O sumo sacerdote, Ananias, ordenou aos que estavam ao seu lado que o golpeassem na boca.
3 Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?”
Então Paulo disse a ele: “Deus vai te bater, sua parede caiada de branco! Você se senta para me julgar de acordo com a lei, e me ordena que seja golpeado contrariamente à lei”?
4 Those who stood by said, “Do you malign God’s high priest?”
Aqueles que ficaram parados disseram: “Você maligna o sumo sacerdote de Deus”?
5 Paul said, “I didn’t know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”
Paul disse: “Eu não sabia, irmãos, que ele era sumo sacerdote. Pois está escrito: 'Não falareis mal de um governante do vosso povo'”.
6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”
Mas quando Paulo percebeu que uma parte era de saduceus e a outra de fariseus, gritou no conselho: “Homens e irmãos, eu sou um fariseu, um filho de fariseus”. A respeito da esperança e ressurreição dos mortos, estou sendo julgado”!
7 When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the crowd was divided.
Quando ele disse isto, surgiu uma discussão entre os fariseus e saduceus, e a multidão se dividiu.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these.
Pois os saduceus dizem que não há ressurreição, nem anjo, nem espírito; mas os fariseus confessam tudo isso.
9 A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ part stood up, and contended, saying, “We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let’s not fight against God!”
Um grande clamor surgiu, e alguns dos escribas da parte dos fariseus se levantaram, e contenderam, dizendo: “Não encontramos nenhum mal neste homem. Mas se um espírito ou um anjo falou com ele, não lutemos contra Deus”!
10 When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them and bring him into the barracks.
Quando surgiu uma grande discussão, o comandante, temendo que Paulo fosse despedaçado por eles, ordenou aos soldados que descessem e o levassem à força do meio deles e o levassem para o quartel.
11 The following night, the Lord stood by him and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”
Na noite seguinte, o Senhor ficou ao seu lado e disse: “Anima-te, Paulo, pois como tu testemunhaste sobre mim em Jerusalém, assim tu deves testemunhar também em Roma”.
12 When it was day, some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.
Quando chegou o dia, alguns judeus se uniram e se amarraram sob uma maldição, dizendo que não comeriam nem beberiam até que tivessem matado Paulo.
13 There were more than forty people who had made this conspiracy.
Havia mais de quarenta pessoas que haviam feito esta conspiração.
14 They came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, “We have bound ourselves under a great curse to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.
Eles vieram aos sacerdotes chefes e aos anciãos, e disseram: “Nós nos amarramos sob uma grande maldição para não saborear nada até que matássemos Paulo.
15 Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near.”
Agora, portanto, vocês com o conselho informam ao comandante que ele deve trazê-lo até vocês amanhã, como se vocês fossem julgar seu caso com mais exatidão. Estamos prontos para matá-lo antes que ele se aproxime”.
16 But Paul’s sister’s son heard they were lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul.
Mas o filho da irmã de Paul ouviu que eles estavam esperando, e ele veio e entrou no quartel e disse a Paul.
17 Paul summoned one of the centurions and said, “Bring this young man to the commanding officer, for he has something to tell him.”
Paulo convocou um dos centuriões e disse: “Tragam este jovem ao comandante, pois ele tem algo a lhe dizer”.
18 So he took him and brought him to the commanding officer and said, “Paul, the prisoner, summoned me and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to tell you.”
Então ele o levou e o trouxe ao comandante e disse: “Paulo, o prisioneiro, me convocou e me pediu para trazer este jovem até você. Ele tem algo a lhe dizer”.
19 The commanding officer took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”
O comandante pegou-o pela mão e, indo embora, perguntou-lhe em particular: “O que é que você tem a dizer-me?
20 He said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though intending to inquire somewhat more accurately concerning him.
Ele disse: “Os judeus concordaram em pedir-lhe que leve Paulo ao conselho amanhã, como se tivesse a intenção de inquirir um pouco mais com mais precisão sobre ele.
21 Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”
Portanto, não se renda a eles, pois mais de quarenta homens estão à sua espera, que se obrigaram sob uma maldição a não comer nem beber até que o tenham matado”. Agora eles estão prontos, procurando a promessa de vocês”.
22 So the commanding officer let the young man go, charging him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”
Então o comandante deixou o jovem ir, acusando-o: “Não diga a ninguém que você me revelou estas coisas”.
23 He called to himself two of the centurions, and said, “Prepare two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred men armed with spears, at the third hour of the night.”
Ele chamou para si dois dos centuriões e disse: “Prepare duzentos soldados para irem até Cesaréia, com setenta cavaleiros e duzentos homens armados com lanças, na terceira hora da noite”.
24 He asked them to provide mounts, that they might set Paul on one, and bring him safely to Felix the governor.
He pediu-lhes que fornecessem montarias, para que pudessem colocar Paulo em uma, e levá-lo em segurança a Félix, o governador.
25 He wrote a letter like this:
Ele escreveu uma carta como esta:
26 “Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix: Greetings.
“Claudius Lysias ao mais excelente governador Félix: Saudações.
27 “This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be killed by them when I came with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.
“Este homem foi apreendido pelos judeus, e estava prestes a ser morto por eles quando eu vim com os soldados e o salvei, depois de saber que era um romano.
28 Desiring to know the cause why they accused him, I brought him down to their council.
Desejando saber a causa pela qual o acusaram, eu o levei ao conselho deles.
29 I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to be charged with anything worthy of death or of imprisonment.
Encontrei-o para ser acusado sobre questões de sua lei, mas não para ser acusado de nada digno de morte ou de prisão.
30 When I was told that the Jews lay in wait for the man, I sent him to you immediately, charging his accusers also to bring their accusations against him before you. Farewell.”
Quando me disseram que os judeus esperavam pelo homem, eu o enviei imediatamente a você, acusando seus acusadores também para apresentar suas acusações contra ele diante de você. Adeus”.
31 So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.
Então os soldados, cumprindo suas ordens, levaram Paulo e o trouxeram à noite para Antipatris.
32 But on the next day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the barracks.
Mas no dia seguinte deixaram os cavaleiros para ir com ele, e voltaram para o quartel.
33 When they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.
Quando chegaram a Cesaréia e entregaram a carta ao governador, também apresentaram Paulo a ele.
34 When the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. When he understood that he was from Cilicia, he said,
Quando o governador a leu, ele perguntou de que província ele era. Quando ele entendeu que era da Cilícia, ele disse:
35 “I will hear you fully when your accusers also arrive.” He commanded that he be kept in Herod’s palace.
“Eu o ouvirei plenamente quando seus acusadores também chegarem”. Ele ordenou que ele fosse mantido no palácio de Herodes.
